  1. I am a newbie here and only going on my second cruise but it sounds like the sandwich you are talking about is one of Buffalo's claims to fame

A beef on weck is a sandwich found primarily in Western New York State, particularly in the city of Buffalo. It is made with roast beef on a kimmelweck roll. The meat on the sandwich is traditionally served rare, thin cut, with the top bun getting a dip au jus and spread with horseradish.Origin · ‎

A kimmelweck is really a Kaiser roll with rock salt and Carraway seeds on top.

Beef on Weck has become my favorite sandwich since I moved to the Buffalo area 7 years ago. You can find it at most restaurants and even pizza joints. If you are weird like me and dont like hourseraddish just add extra au jus and it is great. I can't wait to have it on Anthem I think it will make a great first day lunch.

  2. Does anyone know why clothes steamers are not allowed? I could understand it in the old days they were less safe, but my new one has self shut off and does not get hot on the outside. What I don't understand is if I can bring a curling iron or hair straightener why not the steamer, some of my older curling irons are a much bigger fire hazard then the steamer.

  3. I also am an overpacker. On my cruise this Thursday I am traveling to port in a car and I will be alone so I can take as much as I want, but I have to leave room for my roommate (if she makes it up from SC) to have closet space too. I am always hot so I plan on bringing more summer type clothes, but it is supposed to get cold up in Maine and Canada at night so I am confused. I perspire a lot and I can't seem to eat a whole meal without dripping something on my clothes so I don't usually wear things more then once. With a 9 night cruise using one outfit in daytime and different one for dinner that is 18 outfits!! Would I be crazy to try to handle two roll ons to check and one roll on and one shoulder duffle to carry on?

  4. Tell your wife she is a beautiful YOUNG lady. Do not let that witch in the spa have any affect on her. I have a very active and sharp thinking 99 year old friend, when my very special son met her his comment was she didn't look a day over 70. She was so thrilled that meant she looked almost 30 years younger. So just remember age and beauty are both how you feel not what others think.

  5. I am really interested in this thread because I have very little understanding of the differences in cabins. My only experience so far was an ocean view cabin on a Carnival cruise we were on deck 2 and the view made me feel like I was in the basement also the engine noise was sometimes very loud. I will be in an inside room in my upcoming cruise next week the reason is I waited too long to decide to go with our group and the only person who needed a roommate was a woman with vertigo, she says seeing the ocean makes her dizzy. I am just hoping it doesn't rain the whole trip so I can be on deck as much as possible.

  6. I just want to say some people can not read body language, those almost anywhere on the autism spectrum have no grasp of that concept. It would not have been rude to say something like It was nice to meet you, but my wife and I were planning a quiet intimate dinner for the two of us. If the couple were offended by that they weren't worth caring about offending. As I get older I find i have less patience for beating around the bush, but I try to be nice about it.

  7. Thank you x3 I am preparing for my second ever cruise and your post have been so helpful. I have also really enjoyed your style. Your pictures and description of the 9/11 museum made me cry, I grew up in an NJ town that lost many souls on that horrible day I have never been able to go near ground zero that is still such an emotional memory.

On to happy thoughts i will be doing a 9 night cruise of New England and Canada on Anthem starting on the 20th, I have only been on a Carnival 6 night before. Do you get bored on a ship for 9 days? Your helping me feel less fearful about the unknowns of the ship and what to do. I haven't finished yet but I really enjoyed your observations of NYC and the boarding process. I am also a pin collector so I am enjoying your new additions.

Thank you again for this thorough review, your observations and humor are a joy.
