  1. I am a first time cruiser, do you mind me asking what tenders means?

Tenders are used at ports where there is no pier for the ship to dock at and for the passengers to walk off on. The tender is a small craft that comes alongside the ship which is anchored and the passengers transfer onto the tender via a door in the side of the ship that is fitted with a temporary dock and staircase. Once on the tender it takes you ashore. At some ports the tenders are in fact some of the specialized lifeboats from the ship you are on. But at Half Moon Cay the tenders are quite large and are kept at the island permanently.

  2. I have read through all the posts here and I have a question that I didn't see an answer for.

What do people prop up the clamshells with for air circulation. I have read that it is recommended to bring something to prop it up about 12 inches, but am wondering what that would be.

Has anyone on here done this or did you see it done? What did you use or see used?

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

    A few books will do.

  3. Convertible twins sounds like 2 twin beds that can be converted to a queen which is standard in most cabins. But in order to get four in a cabin there may be a sofa bed and a bunk. On ther hand we have had 2 bunks as well. Maybe ask on the Princess board where Princess experts hang out.

  4. I am not sure of the context the OP had the message that cruisers were not spending enough. If they were complaining about the visitors thats like shooting yourself in the foot. Visitors will spend according to convenience and value and interest. Maybe one or more of these is missing and they should work on them rather than complaining. On the other hand if they were doing this market research to put in pl;ace a strategy to separate more money from the visitots, they are headed in the right direction.

  5. Just returned from SE Asia cruise on Azamara Quest. We too used Zoom in Ho Chi Minh. We had an associate of his the first day when we did the Mekong Delta tour. First rate all the way. On the second day we had Zoom himself for a City tour. Can't go wrong using Zoom in HCMC. dungzoom@gmail.com Zoom requires a deposit via PayPal. No big deal.

In DaNang we used Danang Kids. Actually students who do it free of charge to improve their english. We took the ship shuttle to the meeting point. We met our guide there, Mr. Khahn, who is the organization's leader. You pay for the taxi for the day and lunch for you and your guide. We did provide Khahn with a gratuity which he gratefully expected. The tour is up to you but the guide will recommend. We spent most of the day in Hoi An where we had prebooked a tailor to do some suits and shirts. We were able to get measured, go on tour, go back 4 hours later for a fitting, go back on tour and lunch, go back to tailor to pick up suits. Great day. Went like clock work. www.danangkids.org Tailor www.adongsilk.com Highly recommend

In Bangkok we used Bangkok Day Tour. There is also a Bangkok Day Tours company with an "s". Both were recommended. We used Danni at the one without the "s". Great price, great guide, great time in Bangkok. We had three tours there. First day was temples and canal tour including Royal Barge museum and Patpong market in the evening. Second day was train market and the fabulous floating market. Third day was morning tour of Grand Palace. Nina was our guide all 3 days and was wonderful. www.bangkokdaytour.com
