As your question is Viking specific, consider cross posting on the Viking Ocean  forum where those who can currently access the info would be more likely to see it and respond.

Or thinking outside the box, if there will be other Viking ships in Tromso before your own, could you possibly consider lurking on a Roll Call for one of these sailings  where it may already be under discussion or showing on the list of shorex..

Thank you, I did post in Viking Ocean also. Good thought about looking at other Roll Calls.

It's likely that Viking is reselling an offering by a local vendor [e.g. the Tromso Wilderness Center].

You may want to visit the Tromso tourism site [visittromso.no] and see if a similar 'glamping' or camping experience is listed.

    Thank you

  3. We are doing the NCL excursion dogsledding on Mendenhall Glacier. I'm trying not to pack my whole wardrobe from bathing suit to winter jacket. Does the shore excursion company provide heavy coats, along with the glacier boots?

    TIA

Well it is just not Canada cruise's this statement is showing up on. NCL needs to say something!! I wonder if anyone that has a club balcony suite and has this posted to their account can book 125 days out like they are suppose to be able too.

My May 2021 Europe cruise has this also, but it let me book dinner reservations at 130 days out.

    - you can call people not on the cruise at a discounted rate (but still expensive per minute as it's sent off the ship via satellite)

    - as mentioned, you do not need to purchase an internet package for the text/call functionality of the app

    - internet is NOT able to be accessed as this is not an internet app

Sounds like you may want to look at the Social Mesia Package to communicate back home or the Unlimited Internet Package.

I bought the Unlimited package for our teen daughter. I was hoping to make and receive phone calls from my parents, just in case.

    Thank you!!!

    - app is free and any shipboard activity is free (making show or dinner reservations, schedules, etc)

    - access ship's wifi is free and no additional internet package required.

    - $10 per device for texting / calling functionality

Can you only call/text other people on the same cruise or can you call anyone over the wifi? Do I need an internet package or can I access the internet with the app?

They’re smaller groups.  So instead of a full size bus it’s a smaller bus.  We recently did a 12 port sailing on the Jade med with all excursions through Ncl.  I really didn’t mind the larger groups (Except the sick people on busses).  Here’s a recent review of our excursions that includes Kotor.

We were thinking of just walking around the port, until I read how beautiful Kotor is. I will book the U tour because I would rather be in a small group.  After previously reading your Mediterranean ship excursions review, I searched for Scavi tours (I had never heard of this tour before). I emailed the Vatican that same day,  and by the next day I was booked.

Can you tell me more about the ship to shore phone package? We will have phone service while docked but I was wondering about the service while we were at sea. My husband needs to make phone calls for work.

Thank you so much for such a thorough review and Great tips!!!

  9. Can any one give me information on U tour excursions? We are on NCL Getaway in June 2020 for a Mediterranean cruise. There are 2 similar excursions in Kotor, 1 is listed as a U tour. I've noticed this label on a few other excursions and was wondering what the difference is. I called NCL excursions and all they could tell me was it is a little more specialized??? I'm not sure what this means.

    Thank you!!

Ideally NCL would like you out of your stateroom digs earlier than 8:00 am and off the ship no later than 10:00 am !

You can go to the suite breakfast location on your ship have breakfast and leave from there.

Note that on some ships the Beverage Package ends some time after midnight on the last night of the cruise.

Breakfast with anything alcoholic - not so - Bar is closed -

Making your stateroom available for the new guests is nothing like a simple tidying up - bedding and bath

items must be fully exchanged - cabin cleaned through out - any furniture moved must be replaced to the

    cabin specs -

Since you note that you are in the DOS all the beverages and Butler catered items must be replaced and the

complimentary bottles of booze selected by the new guests put in place -

the Platinum or other free perk items cards laid out for the new guests.

Your cabin steward will have his hands full to accomplish all this before the usual cabin readiness time of 1:00 pm !

AND HE HAS MORE THAN ONE CABIN TO ATTEND TO ! The Butler is also consumed in this rat race escorting

suite guests off the ship stocking the cabin with his fare and then awaiting the boarding call and escorting new guests

    on board

Please leave the comfortable stateroom digs as soon as possible and go to breakfast giving the cabin/butler crew

more time to do their frenzied pace job - also leaving the ship early resulting a zero headcount makes things easier

for the guests coming on board - boarding may start promptly at the usual 11:00 am or designated time and in some

cases their cabin digs ready for occupancy !

WOW!!! So many things and people to take care of, in such a small amount of time. Thank you for the information, I now understand why they want you out. We will definitely be out early! I do not want to be one of those people.

On a side note, with the complimentary bottles of alcohol...if we do not finish these, are we allowed to pack them and bring them home?

  11. Does anyone know if NCL is changing The Haven Deluxe Owner's Suite to a 2-Bedoom Family Villa on The Jewel?  I was looking to book an Alaskan Cruise on the Jewel in June of 2021. I noticed that the floor plan has changed on The Haven Deluxe Owner's Suite with Large Balcony (Cat. H4, Deck 9, Cabin 9004) for sailings on or after 9/14/2020. They are now showing the floor plan for The Haven 2-Bedroom Family Villa. I called NCL twice and they were unable to answer my question. I don't want to book the wrong cabin.

    Thanks

You don't want to do that there were a couple cafe's but I'd not call that a great experience at sea level, while the cliffs look grand from the ship at the base less so.

Plan 45' waiting and enjoy a good drink/meal at the top is my recommendation.  Don't go all the way there and sell yourself short.

How is the view from the ship for sunset? Our room is on the 16th floor of the ship. Is it just as beautiful or should I plan on fighting the crowds?

    According to this LINK:

    https://www.ncl.com/vacations/?sailmonths=05%2F20 06%2F20 07%2F20 08%2F20 09%2F20&ships=4294961194

The JEWEL is sailing in Alaska north and south from Vancouver to Seward in the time frame you have shown.

It sure would be odd to take a ship out of service for that length of time and no repositioning cruise would be of that length !

When you want to check on the schedule of a NCL ship go to the website and with the Menu select the ship

and the time frame and click on FIND CRUISES - if you click on destination you may draw a blank as being too specific.

O my gosh, Thank you for clarifying that for me and for responding so quickly. I actually thought I had checked the correct way. I feel much better about getting the correct room!!

One clue if a dry dock is scheduled is the blank spot in the sailing schedule - especially if the port call just before

the dry dock is near Portland OR or Freeport Nassau where major engineering things take place - brief dry docks

can occur any place replacing pictures on the wall - mattresses - carpet etc.

Note dry dock does not necessarily mean actual dry docking - just ship taken out of service.

When a big blank spot in the sailing schedule occurs it either a dry dock or charter of the ship.

Taking a ship down for a period of time is not taken lightly - usually in off or shoulder season after a repositioning cruise.

A dead spot after a repositioning cruise is a good indicator of something being upgraded replaced enhanced etc.

So if the ships schedule has a big hole between sailings that is most likely a dry dock renovation of sorts big or small.

It does look like there is a huge gap in her schedule between May 18, 2020 and Sept 14, 2020. Is there anyone I can call and ask besides the regular NCL number?

  15. HI,

We are on the same cruise with you and I was wondering the same thing. I was looking for a restaurant near the cable car station. However, sunset is not until 8:37 pm, and there is only 1 other small ship in port the same day.  I'm still not sure that will leave us enough time to take a cable car back down to the port. I've read multiple reviews that say the cable car line is still very long even with only 1 other ship in port.

Please, let me know if you have any new information.

    Thanks

She just had a major drydock and was given the major décor upgrade that the fleet has been getting lately - so I doubt if they will do it again in 2019.

I received 2 different answers when I asked that question to NCL. The 1st agent said she couldn't tell if the Jewel was scheduled for another dry dock between now and 6/2021 and the 2nd agent said "No, she is not scheduled."  It's so frustrating when the NCL agents don't even know what's going on. They both told me I could wait on hold for approximately 30 min and they would contact the help desk, after  I had already been on hold for 25 min to speak to them.

I have to agree with the OP it appears that in addition to the change from H3 to H4 they changed the photos and floorplan to that of a 2BR suite. Since the Jewel just went through a major drydock I suspect that the error is on the web page and not the ship.

I know that NCL is making some of the more popular cabins that were once all part of the same category into new categories. One thing I noticed is that the deck 10 SF suites are now in a category all their own - along with the rest of the cabins on deck 10 aft. I also suspect that they intend to reduce the butler service to the deck 8 and 9 suites.

Do you think they will be reducing the butler service to the Haven Deluxe Owner's Suite on Deck 9 or the just the Penthouse Suite's?
