  1. I'm somewhat able to see my booked excursions on the app, but I have to look at each day, itineraries, and will say Details.

On the web, I'm unable to find my booked excursions.  I had to print my email receipt, to fill out my own spreadsheet.  28 day cruise so lots of information I need.

Again I can click on a day, excursions and they all say Details, and until I try to book (an already booked excursion to test this), it will tell me I'm already booked.

If this is the way, annoying.  If I'm dumb,  then I appreciate any help.    LOL

    A little history:

We have "spent" this on a January 2021 South America sailing that is sadly likely to also be cancelled. Final payment is due October 31, 2020.

I'm not sure if it is better to move this original FCC to a 2022 cruise before making our final payment this week, or to make the final payment and hope that the 2021 cruise still sails.

    Other notes of consideration:

-We paid a deposit out of pocket when we booked this 2021 cruise. The remaining cruise fare was covered by FCC and only taxes and fees are due for our final payment.

-I looked at similar itineraries for 2022 to shift it to, and they are pricing our much higher than the fares we booked for the 2021 cruise.

-We are young-ish and healthy and have no qualms with sailing with masks, social distancing etc. And like everyone else here, are SO ready for a vacation!

Trusted CC friend and fellow travelers, share your wisdom and educated guesses with me! What should we do?!?

I talked to a PCC this morning.   The 2022 South America cruise is 2 days longer, since it's not apples to apples, she wasn't sure I was going to be price protected if HAL cancels the 2021.   ($2K difference).     I still have until tomorrow afternoon (don't want to try on a weekend) to decide to pay now (I only put down 500.00 deposit, with 6700 remaining).   Or cancel and rebook later.    Also to pay their trip insurance of 700.00 non refundable at this late date.          If it sails I want to be on it as you.

Right now I have no FCC or other issues.     Have you decided what to do?

It all comes down to you.  If it were me and they were sailing I would be on the ship!  (Assuming the destination is still available to entry)

Yet some cruise lines (such as HAL) have cruises scheduled to Japan as early as Feb 2021.  IMHO those cruises will not happen, but the cruise lines still resist making the hard decision to cancel.  Is this part of a strategy to push folks into making final payments (which enhances cash flow for the cruise lines) with the idea of holding the cruiser's payments for many many months?

When HAL first started cancelling cruises last February (this started with some Asian itineraries) they quickly (within a few days) refunded customer's money.  Gradually, the refunds took longer and longer.  Was this due to administrative overload or was it part of a deliberate cash flow strategy...or perhaps some of both?

They still have a cruise not cancelled to Australia and I've heard its likely closed through 2021.

Wait until the very last moment!  If they cancel your money is returned, if you cancel expect bureaucratic delays and only the offer of a FCC.  That is how I have played mine.  Let them make the first move

I have 2 days  LOL.    When I called 2 weeks ago inquiring if the final payment might be delayed, it was something they were considering.

  5. Decisions on sailings post Dec should be made soon I'm thinking.  My final payment for Jan 2021 is due Nov 1st.  Will it go?  I doubt it.

Do I want to lay out 7K just for them to hold and refund for an unknown time?  no.

Will I pay and take a rebook for 2022 with no increase (the 2022 increases by 2K),  yes.

    On pins and needles.   🤔

  6. I called my FCC, as she was out of the office until 9/1, to find out she is out until 12/1  now.  Got another person.  I was questioning the decision to go/no go for late Jan 21, no answer yet.  My final payment is due November 1.  They may delay that.  I asked if HAL cancelled would I get my same rate for 2022,  I think the answer was yes or possible.   If I cancel and rebook it is the higher rate which equates to 2,000.

I have to call back on the 27th.

I sent the email here:   Office of the President (HAL) <Officeofthepresident@HollandAmerica.com>

  9. I emailed the office of the president of HAL this morning.  Asking them to comment and specifically to this board (and to me if not) on this question.   Understandable but frustrating for us to try and speculate from PCC's etc.  (no offense to anyone here for questions,) we are justified in trying to know the impacts.  I copied the links above in my email.

    Hopefully they respond.

I've read for several years now that starting January 1, 2022 the larger cruise ships that do "drive by" Antarctica cruises will no longer be able to offer them. On the strength of this I booked an itinerary for January 2021 on Westerdam thinking it may be my last chance to do this cruise without investing in the hefty cost of the expedition vessels.

I'm in same position, booked the Jan2021 thinking it was last time, also going solo, the 2022 prices are 2,000 higher.   I'm ok with a cruise by, not too interested in trying to climb into a kayak or zodiac.   Not a cruise by a couple hundred miles away though.

  11. I still have my Jan 2021 South America and Antarctica booked, was considering moving it out a year, but the cost is $2,000 higher (going solo).  At this time, I'll just hold it and see what happens.   My air is booked with miles, so no issues there to cancel.

I was also under the impression that 2021 was the last year the larger boats could get close in Antarctica.

If it's cancelled, then decision made.
