Absolutely. Had him on our first NCL cruise the Dawn 2010 to Canada and NE. Loved how he would sing ’Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah’ over the PA around 7:30 am. He is the main reason I stayed with NCL.

If the cruise director sang Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah over the PA at 7:30am on a ship I was on, I'd ask the captain to have him arrested.

Unfortunately, I have had more bad cruise directors than good ones, but I won't name names. And yes, a few have been very offensive, but that's not even why I didn't like them. Anyone ever find that the assistant cruise directors or solo cruise directors are often better than the head cruise director?

The only cruise director I can say I definitely liked and thought made a huge difference to the trip was Scott on the Epic, 2017. He was everywhere, and was the kind of guy every girl wanted, and every guy wanted to be.

Also, all the solo cruise directors I have had have been excellent.

Those girls would be disappointed. Scott is engaged to a fella'.

If the price went up, should they ask you to throw them a bone and cough up a little?  Just saying.  I book way up front, because I want to be able to pick my cabin and the prices have gone down after final payment, as well as they have gone up and I never look at the prices after final payment.

They're trying to attract and keep my business - not vice versa.

It is the rare occasion that NCL will offer anything, nor should they. If the price of the BX has dropped and you are before the finall payment date they will adjust your pricing. If you are after the date for final payment, you are probably out of luck. NCL just doesn't do what you are asking.

It is after final payment, and you're incorrect. There are occasions when NCL offers some OBC to compensate for a price drop, though not usually the full amount.

  5. I know this topic is only slightly less overdone than "Can I bring water on the ship" and "How much to tip the butler" but bear with me.

I booked a BX balcony on an upcoming Escape cruise. I got very lucky in snagging one of the FOUR cabins on the ship that are actually assigned BX category balconies. As you probably know, 99% of people who book BX balconies do it under GTY status, so they all get upgraded to other categories.

I've done that in the past, and when there was a price drop, NCL refused to budge with any OBC or any other compensation using the argument that, "You were already given an upgrade wit your current room assignment." BX is considered the lowest category, so if you book it as a GTY and then get assigned a room, NCL considers that an upgrade.

Herein lies the rub. THEY CAN'T USE THAT LINE ON ME.

This cruise looks very undersold, so I bet there will be another price drop for BX balconies. However I'm one of the very few people who can say I booked as a BX, I'm still confirmed as a BX, but now the identical booking is _________ dollars less than when I made mine.

I know NCL isn't contractually obligated to offer me a damn thing, but I'm wondering if they'd be at all willing to at least cough up some OBC or something when it's a price drop for the same category that you booked, and you're NOT looking for any kind of room upgrade (I want to stay where I am).

    Any helpful experiences or insights?

That is no excuse to be rude or not do your job in a polite manner. I worked customer service jobs for years and I was never rude because I didn't get paid well. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, do your job right or quit, but don't be rude to customers, I'm sure NCL would not be happy

Sure there are excuses. What if his kid is in the hospital, or his house is about to be foreclosed on, or he just found out his wife is cheating on him. We're all fighting our own battles, Cathi.

Ask yourself, will your life be impacted in any way by taking the time and effort to possibly get someone fired? Your past work history aside, imagine the stress and trauma that losing your job can cause. Do you want to be the one who inflicts that on someone? I'm sorry this person thought they dealt with a rude rep, but they weren't harmed in any way. He didn't screw them out of a booking or lie to them or cause them to spend more money or something.

Karma is real, and so is compassion. Unless someone's conduct is really egregious, going out of your way to make sure someone else has a harder time keeping a roof over there head isn't right. This person should just hang up the phone, call back, and deal with a different rep, and use the energy he/she would otherwise expend trying to cause harm to this poor minimum wage call center employee on improving their own lives or the lives of those around them.

OK. Nice, congrats ... just be mindful of wet flooring or stay inside. District Brew House is a good place to watch the action.

Enjoy & do bring her back safely as we board in January.  Or, do a B2B, still offering double points along with other Insiders deal, haven't drop the solo supplement, yet.

Having a front row view to that kind of wave action would be awesome.

  8. Very pleased with myself. Booked a cruise on the Escape leaving in the very near future (less than 30 days) and they had good GTY balcony rates for solo travelers. I lucked out and got one of the actual assigned rooms! I've got the same size balcony as all the folks paying for the mini-suites with large balcony for a fraction of the price. Only difference is I have a smaller shower, which I could care less about.

    Please congratulate me.

  9. I've been on the Breakaway many times, and sailed the Escape for the first time last month.

I was in a balcony cabin (no connecting door), and was shocked how clearly I could hear my neighbors. They weren't loud or obnoxious, but I could literally hear every word they said even just having a normal volume conversation. I almost felt like I was eavesdropping.

Never noticed that on the Breakaway, even when I did have rowdier neighbors and/or a connecting cabin.
