I’m a long way from “freaking out”. Didn’t mean for it to come across like that.

You guys need to stop freaking out and wait till this Saturday to jump to conclusions. The reason why it has not went so fast is because it’s just going to Nassau if they went fast they would be arriving to early. I am sailing this Saturday everything is still a go. I have talked to people on board as well as employees on board everything is working fine and has been fixed. Wait until Saturday if Port’s of calls are cancelled to the Virgin Islands to make your statements.

As am I and also sorry.  Hell as long as she sails and I'm on her with my love I'm happy.  Was just asking questions as I thought that this was for

I sure hope that if this is their plan they will let people know soon so we can make informed decisions about our upcoming cruises.

The thing I'm worried about is after last weeks problems NCL did not let the people hat are on her now know till late Fri afternoon

Yes, as discussed earlier, one of the propeller shafts appears to be inoperative.  An onboard report stated there was an "explosion" sound and vibration, which I feel leads to an explosion of one or more of the power rectifiers that convert the electricity to power the propulsion motors.  When a ship experiences something that reduces the redundancy of steering or the ability to maneuver, certain ports, notably all US ports, via the USCG Captain of the Port, will require tug escorts all the way from the sea buoy to the dock and back.  Also, if the company's ISM (International Safety Management) code requires use of tugs when there is a propulsion/steering failure, they will be used in all ports.  Finally, if the Captain or pilot, feel that they need the additional assistance in docking, they will use the tugs.

As stated above, Caribbean Princess has been running with only half power on one propulsion motor/propeller for almost two years now, because a motor winding has blown out (each propulsion motor/propeller has two windings, each providing half the total power), and this requires cutting a large hole in the side of the ship to remove the motor.  It will be addressed at the upcoming drydock.

I have been waiting for you to answer as I have been reading this thread for weeks and everything you have said has been proven out over and over over time.  You sir seem to know your stuff.

So please I think the reason epic has not gone over 14Kn is that she doesn't need to and would get to ports way to fast and the cruise next week will be back to near normal and will go to the Virgin islands.  I really hope so as I am on her.  Or am I fooling myself with wishful thinking and we will be on a similar cruise as this week?

So has anything officially been determined as the cause of engine issues?  Is it likely she will be able to manage her port to Cozumel on the 3/2/19 cruise?

I am on her next week to the Virgin islands and GSC and everything I have heard <except on this thread> tells me all is good for next week so you should be fine

Does anyone know if the tugs that assisted the Epic out of the port were just a precaution or do they still have mechanical issues?

Also, can we tell if the boat is heading for Nassau or the before rumored drydock in Freeport? I'm certainly not an expert but I can't imagine that the repairs needed on the hull and the generators would require drydock that's why I'm asking folks who know a lot more than I do...lol

I'm no expert and I dont know about the tugs except they were there.  But according to Marine Traffic she is cruising down the Fla coast at 14.4 Knts heading to Nas

Well I am on the Facebook group for this sailing as I'm on the next and want to make sure everything is ok and the posts in the last 10 min is people learning to dance, getting in their cabins and seeing a tug to get them out so I think your info is bad.  We will know in 10 min cus she is supposed to depart and no one is saying they were told to get off.

And there is someone on FB live showing there getting ready to leave

so now the rumor is that the ship is going to be drydocked in Freeport tomorrow, and that the current cruisers are being kicked off.  (According to NCL facebook group)

I'm back-to-back on the 9th and the 16th...and I would echo these sentiments. I do wish communication were a little more frequent and thorough, but I guess they are worried about liability or just embarrassed.

Hi,  have you heard what time you are leaving today?

This will be my 13th cruise overall, so in 12 cruises only 3 have been a non-Western Caribbean itinerary, I've been there done/that.  I'm a born and raised Texan, well a 7-day cruise out of Texas can only go so far so it was always Western Caribbean, NCL used to call it Texaribbean.   The Western Caribbean is beautiful however I'm ready for some different ports.

I can understand that for sure. Like I said it was my 1st and I met my love on it and in April when she came to visit we booked this one on the 23rd.  We almost booked the 9th and didn't because she had bowling tourneys that she didn't wanna miss or we would have just gotten back

We had many more issues than just a disrupted cruise. I read back through a few pages and didn’t see much of these issues I went through posted so here is what we personally had gone through/seen on this cruise:

    - 3 cancelled ports

    - code bravo(fire) - due to employees throwing a battery at another employee

    - San Juan no announcement of the crash or anything, only found out leaving the ship.

    - getting told leaving San Juan that repairs were done and we’re on the way to Stirrup Cay which was then also cancelled the following day.

    - sitting at dinner 9:45 pm Thursday on deck 6 there was what felt like a massive explosion violently shaking the entire restaurant scaring the sh*t out of everyone including the staff. Causing solid few mins of complete silence amongst everyone with a (***** is going on face) again including all staff legit waiting for an alarm or something. Then violent rumbling started shaking the whole place for the rest of the dinner. - went to ask what happened from guest services later and the next day to be told “wow really? This is the first report of that, we don’t know.”

    - disembarkation on deck 7 was absolutely PACKED across the entire deck for 2+ hours so much that they shut off the elevators from going to deck 7. No staff around for assistance. Just 2 employees who knew nothing, literally had only the same sheet of info as us guests were given for disembarkation.

Wow this is the 1st time I have heard about the explosion on this trip I am sorry that happened to you.   Wow just Wow!

    Picking me up as well!

So what's comical about the debacle the last week with the Epic for me is that I've been trying to do this itinerary for several years but hurricanes and their aftermath keep happening, so I found the sailing on the 23rd with air included for a super great deal in December and thought 'ha - it's before hurricane season' I'll have zero issues going...and then the last week happens.  I told my TA that if the sailing on the 23rd gets cancelled she is to refuse to book the Tortola/St. Thomas/GSC itinerary for me again because I'm obviously not meant to go there.

LOL I was on the Escape Jan 2018 that was supposed to do this route and got rerouted to western but was my 1st so was happy 🙂

Doesn't that mean this cruise is being shorted 2 cruising days?  Will NCL pro-rate the fare?  I cruised 1 time on NCL & was perfectly satisfied (no complaints).  I would try them again & I don't think this incident has changed my mind.  My very first cruise ever was on RCL Grandeur OTS when we hit a rogue wave that cracked the jogging deck.  No one was hurt & they closed that deck & made temporary repairs while in homeport.  It didn't deter us from cruising & I now have 13 cruises under my belt.

Everyone that was on this sailing had a choice this week.  go and get 50% refund and 50% credit on future cruise plus travel and hotel or a full refund.  I have seen comments both ways.  Most that cancelled didn't like the new 5 day route
