  1. mine always gives me additional OBC in addition to what the cruise line might be offering. THe amount given depends upon the length and cost of the cruise but has always been at least $200. SO, why would I not use her to book my travel? If your agent is not giving you something in appreciation for your business you need to find another agent. I would recommend mine but rules prohibit me from doing so.

  2. Many of the islands that are port calls are heavily damaged and Maria may add some more to the list (PUerto RICO, St. Kitts, Dominica). ST. Thomas and St. John may be struck again. ST. MArtin in bad shape.

prime season starts 11/1. WHat tack will the major cruise lines take? WIll they cancel cruises? ATtempt to re-route? The western Caribbean is already heavily overburdened with the large mega ships in port. CAn't believe many more could be squeezed into those ports. THe Carribean islands are for the most part very poor and do not have the infrastructure to quickly move to make repairs. COuld be a long time before they are up and ready to accept cruise passengers. SO, what do you think the major cruise lines will do?

  3. Nassau and Jamaica are the absolute worst for being harassed. Inn Ocho Rios my daughter and I were surrounding by several hair braiders arguing over who was going to get to braid my 8 year old daughter's hair. Even though I said "NO, loudly and often they kept walking with us. They were touching my daughter's hair. She finally burst into tears and begged me to take her back to ten ship.

In Nassau my husband and I decided to take a horse drawn carriage ride of the old town After a 20 minute tour which was supposed to be a 30 minute tour our horse and carriage pulled back into the end of the line at the curb where carriages waiting for customers. the driver jumped down and strolled away. My husband got out and turned to take my hand to help me out. I had one foot on the outer step and one foot inside the carriage. as I was reaching for his hand the horse moved forward to fill in a empty space in the line. I fell out of the carriage and landed on my hands and knees in the filthy street. My hands and knees were scraped, cut and covered in muck.

I returned to the ship where The clinic cleaned out my cuts, put on anti-biotic and gave me a tetanus shot as protection against infection.

I will never get off the ship in Nassau or Jamaica again.

  4. We are sailing Grandeur to Bahamas in Feb 2016 in two JS units. In tried to reserve a Cabana and received a message saying you can only reserve once on board. In 2013 I did a cruise that had a stop at Labadee and I was able to,reserve a cabana on line in advance. Does each island have different procedures? Is there no way to reserve on line in advance?

  5. Thanks so much for posting this info. I am considering a Disney Cruise and was wondering if they offered the cabana option. I actually called the Disney customer service numberbtoday to ask but the wait times was 10 minutes somI decided not to wait. was it hard to get this? Did you book it as soon as your reservation was made and how do you book it?

  6. Anyone know when these might be available? RCCL schedules are coming out this week and I am looking for a specific cabin type on RCCL That is in very limited supply and the Baltimore port. I would like to compare with pricing and availability on Disney but hesitate to wait if I can grab the RCCL cabin type.

  7. Just received a e mail saying new schedules and sailings to be announced March 11. I am looking for Fall 2016 sailings on Grandeur and I want a specific cabin category which has a very limited supply and they go very quickly. I need to book as soon as dates and fares are released. Do you think this announcement on the 11th will have full schedules for 2016 for all ships? if not when do you think the Fall 2016 sailings will be available to book???

  8. I've read a lot of very positive comments about Tauck land tours and river cruises. We'll be taking a small group land trip with them in 2015 and we have our eye on a river cruise for 2016. I know Tauck offers the "Gift of Time" hotel benefit for returning river cruise passengers. Does anybody know if this extends to previous land trip clients?

Also on many ocean cruiselines, there is an opportunity to book a future cruise while onboard. The advance booking usually comes with some benefits, such as reduced deposit, OBC or x% discount. Does Tauck have anything similar on either their land tours or river cruises?

Bleuwater, if you're still around, kudos on your exceptional travelogue of your Tauck river cruise. It's simply outstanding. You also mention that you have previously taken Tauck land trips. Which itineraries? Do you have travelogues for any of them? Thanks!

Our traveling companions for the Tauck River cruise we took in Septmber had been on a previous land tour with Tauck and they were offered the "Gift of time" on the river cruise so it seems as if that is a benefit for Tauck clients no matter what type of previous tour you have taken with them.

We have a Tauck land tour booked for this August and were offered the "Gift of time" for that trip based on the river cruise we took.
