I've had the burger in the MDR a couple of times when there was nothing else that appealed to me on the menu. Both times they were ok - not great, not terrible, and definitely a little on the overdone side. The burgers from the grill are much better - thinner, which I prefer, cooked to order and served hot. DH like to get his with grilled onions. They pretty much cook them for a standard time but I guess you could always request it rare - they are cooking them to order after all.

I get a double burger with cheese up on Lido..... with cheese.   IMO Much better than MDR.  BUT the orange soufflé is da bomb..... and only available in the MDR on embarkation day lunch.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Brickell and enjoyed it very much.  It is in the financial district so it s a very safe and clear area within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

The morning of the cruise we took their shuttle for a small fee.  (this was several years ago)

  3. There is a simple way to get 4 bottles on with two people.

Wife and I both carry on two bottles, go through separate "security" lines.... simple tell them, I carry both, there is my wife... she and I are looking for "the look" and a happy wave we are good.  ONCE I was told to go to the wine table (NCL) and I by passed..... no worries....

    Thanks for that info.

We know people who have had no problems taking wine on at ports of call, but because we are hoping to buy several bottles when our ship calls into Brisbane, we want to be sure. If it is confiscated, we lose it because we are flying home on an international flight and can't carry wine onto the plane.

If I was on the same cruise as you, I would gladly help drink the "excess" wine …. I'm just that friendly 🙂

I have had good luck wrapping bottles in clothes in the middle of the suitcase - and no breakage.... but obviously drinking it is so much better than losing it.... 🙂

  5. Keep in mind a couple of my lessons learned:

#1 "Normal" turnaround is - to room steward in the morning, next day while at dinner or so... back in your room. (36 hours)

#2 The more Elite onboard, that turn around can be a day or 2 or 3 longer turnaround.

#3 My stateroom stewards in the past would take the laundry anytime they see it. or we hand it to them in the hall 🙂 (sometimes this got our stuff back quicker than the 36 hours or so)

#4 Last cruise (Last week) he would ONLY take it in the morning.  We didn't push the issue - not that big of a deal...

#5 IF you are in PORT over night, or anchored on the lake between the Panama Canal locks.... they will NOT do passenger laundry, only ship stuff.   Due to not being able to discharge the water at those times.  This can delay your laundry an extra day or two due to increased laundry back-up.

#6 I have never had anything missing or damaged - the only thing I have gotten, is a note saying sorry we could not remove the stain on a shirt -  either could I :-).

  6. :D:DWe have never had a problem with the laundry on several ships. One caution - we were not prepared and when on a half transit of Panama - with an overnight anchored two things happened.

    1) the laundry we put in was delayed 3 days due to enter of the locks the next morning, on the the lake the next day, back up of laundry due to high demand.... oh well, we were prepared.

    2) if you ever (even anchored on the lake) leave your room in the evening with lights on and balcony door opened... Y I K E S .... be prepared for many MANY flying bugs when you come back tired and ready for bed..... 45 minutes later we were done killing bugs.... (I know I'm not suppose to leave the balcony door - it was by accident)

  7. The problem we have with beer/soda in the cabin is that the "cooler" (it is not a real fridge) does not get those items cold enough for our taste. When I want a cold beer I get it at one of the bars.

    Hank

I agree the beer is never cold enough, the second I meet the room steward, I ask him for a champagne ice bucket or if easier for him I will take one of those buckets they fill with the beer package - full of ice. I than use that to keep the beers really cold.

Make sure you put in on a towel - or the sweat from the container goes everywhere.... don't ask how I know.. :-0

  8. I travel with an 8' extension cord with the end having 3 spots to plug in to. Why 8'? some hotel rooms still have horrible access to outlets near the bed, and those that do - sometimes are so worn out that you can't get a plug to stay in it :-(

    So I have options :-)

  9. Marriott Marquis is the only place I stay - it's so central, and nice, and the night life around it is solid. I am staying there this August - I agree with a city bus IF you want to just look. HOHO if you want a narrative - BUT I have heard that you want to either stay on - or look at the crowd getting on when you are getting off - IF LARGE - consider walking back to the last stop if the crowd is big (as in you won't get on if there is not enough seats), might be easier to get on.

  10. "The one thing I haven't noticed anyone mentioning is turning off the hot water heater and incoming cold water. This action is self explanatory.

If you use tankless water heaters or instant hot water appliances this is not necessary."

I WOULD DISAGREE WITH THE ABOVE STATEMENT. If a hot water line breaks, you don't need the extra cost of Gas to heat that leaking hot water.
