It's 1 mile from the train station to the cruise terminal.  Some people were talking about walking from the station because of the traffic tie ups and a lack of taxis

Wow only one mile? It felt like 500 when I was walking with my suitcase the morning of July 22 to catch a train so we would not miss our pre-paid Buckingham Palace tour scheduled for late afternoon in London. Town of Dover was at a standstill that morning. A couple buses even drove on wrong side of highways just to reach the port.

33 nights onboard the Pride and I don’t really have a single complaint about shape of ship or the crew however tendering to ports was (to be polite) “disorganized”.  It was enough to make me not return for an additional 40 nights through September when opportunity presented itself theough casino offers. I love Carnival for their prices however I can totally see how others might be disappointed if they paid good money to be there.

  2. Hi,

In Naples there is a Hop on Hop off bus which is usually a good option. Sorrento is beautiful.

I’ve read that Kotor and Dubrovnik are both easy to navigate on your own, I was supposed to be there next week but The Norwegian Jade sailing is cancelled.

Mykonos is a small port so I don’t think you need an orchestrated tour because you can just walk around.  The windmills overlooking town are a short distance from the ship and there are also some great beaches nearby. You could take a day trip to the island of Delos and to see ruins, it was once a sacred spot through out the ancient world.

You can take a boat around the island of Santorini then take a bus to the village, then a bus to Feria about 20 minutes away, and then take the cable car back down all for about 20 Euros. Expect a long line for the cable car when taking it down to get back to the ship. The beaches are made of volcanic rock and there is an active volcano in Santorini.  I read that there is a stunning sunset from Oia.

    Enjoy!

  3. Hi Warm Water Diver,

On March 13 at 7:10 AM I received an email that NCL cancelled my 22 day Norwegian Jade sailing that was scheduled to depart Dubai at 11PM on March 18. Thankfully, I received the email before my international flight left from JFK in NYC.
As far as a refund goes, Norwegian Cruiseline is alleging that I cancelled my cruise! I was scheduled for a back-to-back sailing April 9-19 as well on the Norwegian Jade out of Rome so no way was I cancelling anything. I knew from CruiseCritic to wait for Norwegian to cancel which is exactly what I did so I’d be eligible for a full refund. Something fishy is going on in their corporation just so they don’t have to issue refunds!

  4. Hi Jakefi,

I had the same issue trying to process the refund form for my 22 day (Norwegian cancelled) March 18 - April 9 Jade cruise from Dubai to Rome. As a sidenote, I was back-to-back cruising from Rome to Rome for an additional ten days April 9-19 and that form went through no problem. I am still stuck trying to get Norwegian’s  attention to process my $1255.00 refund (minus insurance). After much frustration on hold and filing electronic correspondence since its impossible to speak to customer service reps directly, Norwegian is alleging that I cancelled my trip. Seriously! I am almost Platinum Plus so I know a lot of their routines in ignoring customer service issues, and I was scheduled back-to-back cruising, no way I would have forfeited my money and I have cruisecritic posts as evidence that shows how my shipmates and I were waiting on pins and needles before our flights departed for Norwegian Cruiseline to finally make a decision to cancel their sailings for March 18 and so then we would be entitled to complete refunds instead of FCC which I do not need because I have a stockpile of Cruise Next Deposits. At this point they are still alleging that I cancelled my cruise which is a bunch of baloney and although I am not one to cast aspersions because I am an attorney, I think it could be another tactic of their employees to not lose commissions or something else fishy. So, don’t be surprised if you are informed by Norwegian that you were the one who cancelled, not them. I know, it is ridiculous but it is happening. Florida Attorney General Andrea Moody in Miami might like to hear from you, they are supposed to be investigating NCL sales tactics due to a whistleblower employee reporting that they were trained to mislead during coronavirus cancellations and rebookings. I am sorry to worry you but would like you to be prepared. Feel free to personal message me and I will let you know how things progress with my situation or I’d be happy to update here if anything occurs. I kept calling different Norwegian numbers and found a rep working overflow bookings out of his house that had a very good point so I informed Norwegian of it; maybe since I was booked through a Caesars Entertainment offer or their Casino at Seas program, it could be considered a third party booking and the rep at home said its possible that the third party cancelled it once they got word from Norwegian as to the fleetwide cancellations. Just some info, I did report this to Norwegian in hopes of furthering my own claim. I wish you patience and luck in your dealings with them.

  5. Hi Perditax,

Pier 88 Manhattan Cruise Terminal is very easy to navigate, a cab drops me off five feet from where a luggage porter places luggage onto a stack of other suitcases. No steps of escalators involved. I’ve done the NYC to Bermuda quite a few times and loved it! I hope you have a fantastic time. Also, Norwegian Cruiseline offers a final day NYC excursion where they put you and your luggage on a tour bus and you see some of the highlights of NYC prior to getting dropped off at JFK or LaGuardia airport. I think its $99.00 and a shore excursion credit should be applicable (they honored my $50.00 per port excursion credit in Barcelonia in February and even allowed me to jump off early at one of the tourist sites with my small suitcase since my flight was not until the following day).

  6. Hi CRZAHOLIC,

Yesterday I disembarked the beautiful Norwegian Dawn after a one week Canada New England cruise out of NYC. Me and my nephew (aged 24) took a shore excursion daily at each of the five ports. There were many older folks on the ship but please do not let that discourage you from cruising this itinerary. The last day in Newport Rhode Island I booked directly with a helicopter tour company and saved a boat load of money (hahahhah pun intended). I will write a more lengthy review of the entire cruise when I find the time and learn how on the CC message board but for now I’ll give you some direct info regarding something fun for the thrillseeker you mentioned:

For $75.00 each I booked me and my nephew on 12 minute Bird’seye View Helicopter tour of Newport which included seeing from an aerial view the mansions, bridge, fort, Breakers, Cliffwalk and other stuff but my favorite part was flying above our cruis ship. A nice family runs this business and I never really book excurions outside of the cruiseline but when the cruiseline wanted $199.00 each person I figured I’d give it a shot calling directly to Newort Helicopter Tours, especially since I wasn’t in a foreign country where I’d be worried about a language barrier, danger and trying to find my way about a strange city.

The company can send their shuttlebus van to meet you at the pier for a reasonable fee, we split it with another couple from our ship who did the lengthier 30 minutes in the air Island Tour for $110.00 each and they said they enjoyed it, too. My nephew loved it and although i was a bit scared getting in, it was nothing to worry about and they even make you watch a preliminary safety video first before entering the airfield area. I took a 12 minute video so have no aerial pics to share however I will try to  attach pics of their company contact info but please feel free to contact me directly via email if ya want more info about the itinerary or my experience on the helicopter. My nephew and I liked all the other excursions including Peggy’s Cove, Titanic Cemetary, Reversing Rapids and outlet shopping in Freeport.  Also, don’t miss comedian Julie  Barr if sailing norwegian Dawn.

  7. TSU Mom,

Mike is correct, I had the same questions (sailing Spirit Feb 14, 2019), my companion and I are getting Latitudes Platinum 10 percent discount and doubling up on the $50.00 per port excursion credit. I was confused and called NCL because there was another promo running at some point that limited the $50.00 per port to only four ports. Enjoy!
