  1. Just got off the Dawn this morning. The slots are stupid tight. They are so tight we didn't go but two nights. On other cruises and lines, we were in the casino nightly. Roulette didn't register many of the numbers landed so if you play runs you are out of luck. It was very disappointing. We don't go in with the idea of winning but I also don't expect to lose all my allotted $ that fast.

  2. I just got off the phone with NCL. This is our first NCL cruise so I have some questions. First, she assured me our cabin is under the garden café and should be pretty quiet. I'm thinking it is under the pool area and I know that won't be quiet as chairs move about early in the morning. Anyone know for sure?

Second, coffee makers. This is a mini-suite. If it is a coffee maker can I bring my own grounds? Do I need filters? Stupid questions, I know and seemingly trivial. I'm not a snob but I need my morning cup:)

Third, Internet. I'm told that we can't get the cell/sail package on the Dawn. I know I can buy 250 minutes for $100. Do I put my phone in airplane mode when I am not using my wifi?

  3. I know being disconnected is the idea on a cruise, but we own our own business so being totally shut out is scary for us. I called AT&T and they said that there is no program with them to use on the Dawn. If we pay a fee can we be connected with our phones or is that only in the Internet Cafe via computer? Sorry to be a dunce about this. The last time we cruised was in '08 and we didn't miss being connected, but now it isn't an option.

  4. We planned our cruise quickly and don't have time to get my husband's passport renewed, nor get one for my son. I know I can use birth certificates as id as long as we board and disembark in US. We are going out of New Orleans. But, I also want to get new BC for them to take. Will they accept the "short form" BC or do I need to go the long form? They are both certified but the short form I can get locally and if I need the long form, I have to do it all through mail.

  5. Thank you for your reply. I called to kind of get an itinerary for their splash camp but they didn't have anything. She did give me the hours open. So, they close for lunch and dinner for two hours? Just curious as I know he's rather eat kid stuff with new friends. Also, we will do family excursions, but is the camp open once we return to ship? The less than informed agent I talked to simply didn't know the answer to many of my questions.

  6. Debating between Carnival Freedom and the Dawn. Freedom has the water park. We have never cruised on Norwegian. Will my eight year old be entertained? What activities do they have for him. He is a SOCIAL BEAST so having lots of people to pal around with is essential. But, he loves water slides, hence my apprehension for booking the Dawn. This is going to be over spring break, so I need to book ASAP!!!!

  7. Thank you TSOH! I assumed so but since I hadn't seen it first-hand, I wanted another perspective. It's his vacation too and he is a social beast and as long as there are a few other friends on board for him, he will have the time of his life:)

  8. Oh, I'm sure he will have a great time, but since we have only cruised during traditional school vacations times there were tons of kids. Just wondering if there are tons of kids during non-traditional vacation times.

  9. We are thinking of booking a cruise out of Galveston the end of March. Cruised a few times with our oldest son when he was a teenager and loved it. Now, our youngest is eight. Are there kids of all ages on most cruises? All of our other cruises have been over Spring Break or summer. Are there plenty of kiddos even during school times? I want him to have plenty of friends to pal around with.
