  1. ?....You keep referring to the second bed as a 'Pull out' in a 1A. Does that mean that is pulls our ABOVE from the wall like a bunk bed and if you don't need it is is hidden? Or are they permanently pulled out like bunk beds and you have to crawl under the upper to get to the lower if you want to sleep?

    A photo would be great.

    :) Thanks!:)

I will try to upload a photo later - but for now - the bunk bed is folded up against the wall and is only down at night (if you need it). Hope this helps. It is not in the way at all and actually looks like a wall decoration until it is folded down. On some ships I believe it lifts up into the ceiling and you don't even know it is there until they pull it down.

  2. Did you book directly through Carnival or someone else? Would love to find that price on one for myself.

I posted sometime ago that I got a 1A with 2 porthole windows on the Celebration 5 nights in October for $254.00. Well the price came down today to $164.00  I got my gratuities pre-paid and a $40 credit. I can't believe it - $164 for a 5 night solo cruise! How could I pass this up!!:)

This will be my first really solo cruise. Usually I know someone else on board - but not this time. Truely solo. I am kinda nervous - only because I have never done this before - and my kids are kinda leary. They don't want me wandering around Nassau by myself. I am thinking about grabbing a cab to Atlantis and spending some time there - and then back to the ship. Now Key West - well that is Florida, so it's like being at home.

So for you solo's out there looking for a great deal - check out the Carnival prices for Sept/Oct. They are awesome. Oh yes - this is a 55+ rate. I thought I better mention that part. But hey - even the regular rates and the past guest rates are as low as I have seen them in a long time!

I hope this helps someone. Maybe a fellow Floridian or maybe even Cotton can join me!:D

    Directly through Carnival.

I have been watching the Carnival site for last minute deals. I got a Cruise from FloridaSale email notice from my PVP at Carnival today. I sent him an email and he called me within the hour. I suggest you call Carnival direct. Today if you can - since this is a one day sale - although I believe the over age 55 rate is what I got - which was better than the sale rates. This is the only time I am happy about being over 55!! BTW - there was one more 1A porthole cabin left at that price on my sailing when I talked to him earlier this evening.

$254 for 5 nights - you can't go anywhere and eat 3 meals a day for 5 days at that price! Not even Vegas!

Hey Viva - are you from Vegas? I am heading that way on Sept 2!!:D

  4. I just booked my first 1A - porthole on the main deck - Carnival Celebration. I couldn't resist - the price for a 5 night is $254. That is the total price for 1 - not the pp price. That over 55 special sure came in handy. :)

Now I always said I couldn't sail without a balcony - then I went on my Fantasy cruise and had to take an OV because the suites were sooooo expensive. Now I will try the 1A and then I can say I am no longer spoiled ....well....(except for the fact I live close to the ports and can cruise often - that is pretty spoiled!:o )

  5. I've learned that there is absolutely no rhyme nor reason to getting a "free" upgrade. We got one on an Alaskan cruise - HAL - first time ever sailing with that line, so no "history" for them to check. We had gotten our luggage tags, etc., for our oceanview cabin - at check-in, they told me we were booked in another cabin. I argued for a bit that, no, my papers said cabin XXXX, not YYYY, but ended up just accepting the change. Found we had been upgraded to a lovely balcony room. Never did find out why, but we were spoiled from then on.

That happened to me once and ever since I must have my balcony cabin. I think there is your answer to "why". :D

  6. However, a friend who decided at the last minute to go with us booked a cabin and got an immediate upgrade to an outside cabin. He paid about the same for his cabin as we did. We suspect that part of it depends on how much you spent on previous cruises and how well the agent you go through advocates for you. That's why we think it's better to go with a private travel agent than to book directly through Carnival.

This post reminded me of another way to get a free upgrade. I always book with a Carnival PVP - not a TA - and Carnival often has sales that include several cat upgrades. My PVP will watch the sales (and so do I - on the Carnival web site) and if something comes up for reduced fare or upgrade all I have to do is call him. I was already booked in the cabin I wanted for my 1-6-07 sailing, so when the prices dropped - I got the credit. About $250/pp. Not bad.

It could be that your friend happened to book when there was a sale going on. If that happens again - contact your TA and ask them for the special.

  7. In various forums I've seen references to getting free cabin upgrades.

I don't understand how this is done.

Do you simply ask for it?

If so, who do you ask and when do you ask for it.

    Insight would be appreciated.

I can only tell you about Carnival, as I have not sailed on the other lines. The only way I know to possibly get an upgrade is to book a guarantee in the cabin level of your choice. For instance - if you want a balcony cabin - you can book a balcony guarantee. The price is lower for a guarantee - then when they are assigning cabins - close to cruising time - they will put you in a remaining cabin equal to or better than the level that you paid for. You will not know what cabin you are assigned until embarkation.

For instance - we booked a balcony guarantee on the Glory - 8 gtee - we did not know our cabin number until embarkation. They assigned us an 8I - which was on the Panorama deck. This was a great upgrade - and now I am spoiled.

However - there is no guarantee you will be upgraded. It is the luck of the draw - and depends on what cabins have not been booked and paid for - and I am guessing that they take into consideration how much you originally paid, how often you cruise with them, how many are in your party, etc.

Do not book an inside room hoping to get an OV or balcony. You would most likely be very disappointed.
