  1. I think I will book the tour with Copper River lodge as I want to go to Kennicott. I want to take the tour as opposed to going on our own. I really enjoy the information and history that the tour guides give us. The links from Kennicott were really helpful. Thanks everyone

  2. I have nothing to contribute about the lodging... But here is a sunrise/sunset calendar for Fairbanks in August 2018 - I assumed you're going in 2018. Check the dates you'll be there. Just because it's sunset doesn't mean it's "dark" yet. I was there in early June this year and sunset was somewhere around 12:15 AM and sunrise was about 3:30 AM - it was never dark enough in those few hours to need headlights to drive..

Thanks SuperCrewBear. Your post tells me there shouldn’t be enough darkness or see the northern lights. That was the reason I was interested in going to Fairbanks. The hotel even has it listed as an excursion, but doesn’t specify what time of year.

  3. I am looking to book my 5th Alaska trip and 2nd land tour. My first land tour was a 13 day with Royal Caribbean, but this one will be with Princess. Either a 13 or 14 day trip. Does anyone have advice on choosing either the Copper River princess wilderness lodge or the Kenai Princess wilderness lodge? Whichever I choose it is a 2 night option. Also, will there be enough darkness in August that there would be a good chance to see the northern lights in Fairbanks? Judy

  4. I was there this week and went on a small boat tour with Adventure Bound Alaska. There was so much ice there was no way we could get into Tracy Arm. I have been into Tracy Arm on a small boat before. Endicott arm is beautiful too, just a different look from Tracy Arm. Just passing by all the ice bergs is amazing in itself. We also spotted two bears and a mama goat and her baby on the shoreline. Only a couple of harbor seals on the ice. Definately take the small boat tour no matter where it goes!

  5. I never thought that I would skip the MDR on a cruise, because we are on vacation and enjoy being served. With that said, we went there the first night only. The next night we went to the windjammer and enjoyed it so much, we never went back to the MDR on our 10 night cruise. I usually chose one of the stations where they cook something different every night. It was very quiet and relaxing. We could stay as long as we liked or make it quicker. I am booked on another cruise in July and won't even bother with dress clothes as we will eat in the Windjammer every night. If you aren't sure, you should just try it one night, you might be surprised.

  6. I also recommend Glacier Winds. I have been with 2 different companies in Juneau, but Glacier Winds was my favorite. Loved the stop in Hoonah. The boat is fantastic, as you can walk all the way around the outside of the cabin. Lots of room! Shawn also found some bears on the shoreline that we watched for a while. I'm going back in July of 2016 and have already reserved our spot with them again.

  7. We are cruising on Serenade of the Seas this September, which ends in Quebec City. What is the earliest flight time we should be looking at? It seems close to the airport, and yet I know there will be customs to go through. Thanks in advance to everyone who has some input.

  8. Ionig, we will be on the Radiance with you. I would recommend checking out weatherpermittingalaska.com I have been whale watching twice in Juneau. Once with Weather Permitting and once with Harv and Marv. I definitely preferred Weather Permitting. The boat was better designed to get around. You will most likely see Mendenhall glacier from the water. We probably saw 3 other glaciers also, just by watching the scenery. My daughter is going out with them in the afternoon. I am going whale watching in Icy Straight.

We also saw sea lions piled on a bouy.
