We just had to change dates on a B2B cruise, and we were charged the $400 ($100 per person, per cruise) - but the next day we were informed that the entire $400 was going toward the new cruise!  I don't know if that's normal or if the travel agent worked some magic, but it was quite unexpected.

I am booked for a group cruise next fall, and we were given refundable and non-refundable prices; the non-refundable were more expensive than losing the down payment.

Not normal - look for your cruise rate to be $400 higher after 2-3 days or when the computer system catches up.

  2. Thank you all for the responses and help. You are right that I shouldn't have asked a CCL rep about a dining room request. But all she had to say was that it wasn't something she knew - NOT state with certainty something that's incorrect. But, that said, I will take everyone's suggestions. I have emailed the maitre'd. I will check once on board to see where the table is and how many it's for. I will also check with my TA and make sure that mom's special needs are noted. I believe they are, which is why we are staying in a cabin with accommodations. But it's not for the hearing impaired. I'm not sure that CCL knows that part of the special needs. And I am sadly not Platinum....yet. But I'm getting very close!:p

Carnival has "hearing kits" available (sorry I can't remember the right term). They include a bed shaker & flashing light for a doorbell. Your TA should be able to find out what exactly it includes & request it, they are used in all types of cabins.

  3. My wife and I were at gold level in 2013 with 9 cruises/63 days sailed on Carnival when they were changing the requirements from 10 cruises to 75 days sailed to reach platinum level effective on 1/1/14. We opted to take a 4 day cruise on the Triumph at the end of December that year to become platinum in 2013.

Now hoping we can reach diamond before the rules change again.

Do you remember Carnival announced the new guidelines/requirements for becoming platinum were in either 2012 or early in 2013? Plenty of time to plan new cruises if needed then, I hope this would happen the same way this time.

  4. Also, Galveston will be starting a new boarding "assignment" in November, around the 15th depending on the exact cruise dates. You will select your preferred boarding time from a list. When a time slot is "full", it won't be shown on the list. I believe the time slots are 30 minute intervals beginning at 10:30 AM.

On Monday, I just did the pre-check-in and printed my docs for our Nov 28th cruise on Carnival Freedom. I selected the second time slot, 11 to 11:30 AM. All slots were still available when I selected my time, however, this selection option just started (the new policy doesn't actually take affect till mid - November) and I expect once it is widely known, the early slots will be gone within days after pre-check-in starts for every cruise.

The explanation on the page says you will not be allowed into the terminal until your designated time. You will be accommodated if you arrive later than your time slot, just not earlier.

I guess no one paid any attention to the emails they used to send. I know I didn't.

OP is sailing in October not November

  5. We were at Foster's mid January & we were so glad my very prepared friend had brought some Off w/Deet. We were fine for the first hour or so but all of a sudden we were all just itchy feet people. One application was all it took...we were fine the rest of the day!
