  1. Hmmm.. interesting discussion on single fares paying double.  Obviously the poster who said it was fair for singles but not families has never had to pay the onerous (and unfair) double fee.  I am with Saint Greg... and Jammen54... 150% - seems reasonable.   When I write the check for double, not so much!!!!  Love cruising, hate the single  (double!!) fee!!!!!!  Just my 2 cents worth... er, wait - 4 cents worth 🙂

  2. Cruisemom42 - on the Sirena, there was a specialty dining room representative on the 5th floor - I just went and spoke to them on embarkation day, and asked for extra reservations.  The fact I was willing to share a table helped....

Also, later in the cruise when everyone had settled in, some reservations opened up and created more opportunities.   Great food, great people - I am so glad I opened up to sharing a table!!!

  3. Just back from sailing solo on Sirena.  Oceania took SUCH good care of me.  If I came to the main dining room, I usually was given a window 2 top.  Always was greeted by name.

I always requested a sharing table at the specialty restaurants - the food was awesome and I was able to eat there many times (just ask!).  The first night i had dinner with a lovely couple from Germany,  next night a couple from Scotland ....

The Solo travelers get together was a great way to meet people, and 5 of our group hung out for much of the cruise.   It was my first time traveling by myself... and I found it wasn't as scary as i thought it would be - and I met friends for life just by agreeing to share a table.

  4. Ok, not Insignia, but I just got back from Panama Canal trip on Sirena.... fabulous experience!!  Bow was open (yep we all stomped on the putting greens... yep, many up on chairs etc to see over front wind screen).  I stood near the very front and had a great view of all the locks.  There was a Panamanian canal expert on board giving us a great running commentary.   Later in the morning I went down to my cabin (veranda level 6) with a glass of champagne.  I was basically a few feet from the guys working the mule, ropes etc, and I actually had a fun conversation with them  - until they filled the lock, and then I waved to them from several stories above.

    A unique and incredible experience!!!!!

  5. I just got back from a 16 day trip on the Sirena... never had more than 25 people on a full size bus.  One excursion only had 6 people, another only 12!!!!  But they ARE more expensive than finding your own outside excursion.  All were very well run.  It was my first time on Oceania ( have cruised Princess and Holland America previously).

  6. Hi Happy Traveler! I am already booked on the trip you mention in your OP.  I get seasick very easily, but with advanced planning and preparation,  usually am fine.  Rough seas definitely don't deter me from traveling, and I am really looking forward to the port heavy itinerary on this sailing.  Hope you decide to join us!!!
