  1. We cruised on Grandeur in 2000 but I was not into fitness as I am today. Can anyone fill me in on the equipment in Grandeur's fitness room? I know they probably have plenty of cardio machines, what I'm more interested in is weight training equipment, do they have machines? Dumbbell rack with some heavy dumbbells ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  2. I despise the whole dress up thing. I rented a tux the first few cruises, went to Dockers and a polo after those but am changing to shorts, shirt ( logo tee or polo) and flip flops for our next cruise which is my retirement celebration cruise with the whole family. I didn't put on long pants for over a year after I retired, still wouldn't have if we didn't have company that wanted to go to the Grand Canyon in January

  3. We haven't cruised in a few years but are taking our family on a " my retirement" cruise in June and I am very happy about this change. Of course, I was one of those slobs that wore shorts to dine whenever I wanted to before. It's just nice to be legal now. Lol. I didn't put on a pair of long pants for a full year after I retired, for anything. I also have been off these boards for a few years and it seems to me that attitudes have changed about this, for the better, IMO

  4. Just looking for general input from regular cruisers. Wife and I used to cruise often but have taken 3 years off to retire and move to Arizona, in the winters. We're taking our entire family ( 3 kids, spouses, and 2 grandbabies) on Grandeur to celebrate our retirement. I used to feel like an expert but not so much now. My question is : what, if anything, do you think has changed the most in the last 3 years. I appreciate your help as I know I'll get good feedback here :D

  5. I think I posted a while back, on a different thread totally unrelated to dress code - that in my relatively short time as a member here, I've figured out that there's only one way to not get flamed - don't post! :D It amazes me some of the threads that turn contentious. Door decorations, yes or no - really?!?!

I would argue that if you tell the new poster, who is a new cruiser - that you've worn shorts so they'll be just fine - that you're not really providing the true info for the new poster - as ryano already stated. Wear shorts to the MDR and there's a chance that you'll be turned away at the door. There's a chance you won't be, but if you imply to the poster that shorts are fine and he won't be turned away, you haven't given that poster the whole, true story. Even then, no need to call names though.

I have however given them my truth from 17 cruises, and while they may take from my posts that they will be OK wearing shorts, I never say that, only that I have had no problems wearing them and I figure others will give them the other side, so the new cruiser can figure out what they want to do. And I totally agree on the name calling.

  6. Agreed - although I'd add that opinions are fine, as long as clearly indicated as such.

Heck, more than once on these threads, I have stated only what I actually wear to the MDR, and have been called just about anything you can imagine. I didn't post to argue, to agree or disagree, just to tell the poster, a new cruiser I assume, what I have done.

  7. The one thing RCI is most consistent at is being inconsistent :D;)

Im just joking around in these dress threads. If we are ever on a cruise together, you will see me abiding by the dress suggestions. I usually wear kahkis and a polo shirt for casual nights and a tux for formal night. Im one that really loves dressing up because I dont get to do it much on land. Heck, I even leave at least most of my tux on (sans the jacket) for the rest of night to get my monies worth out of the rental ;)

I just dont really care what others wear. Shorts at dinner dont bother me in the least. Im rather use to it from living in central FL for 17 years. They DO allow them for breakfast and lunch so I dont see what the difference is allowing them on casual nights. I just want people to enjoy their cruise and have a good time. Life is way too short to worry about what others wear IMHO.

    Right on the money

  8. No doubt the enforcement is uneven at best, but for every story here about someone wearing shorts in the MDR, there's another story about someone being turned away for wearing shorts. So RCI does care, they just care unevenly. ;)

By the way, when I looked up pictures for dress shorts for men, this is primarily what you see - and I don't believe that's at all what the "MDR shorts advocates" here are thinking of re: shorts in the MDR. ;)

These are almost exactly what I wear, except I have red, blue, and green ones and I don't wear shoes or a jacket with them. And I have to agree that RCI cares unevenly because I have no reason to doubt those that say they have seen people turned away but I have been on a fair number of cruises and a fair number of different type ships, and have worn shorts a lot and have never had a word said to me about it

  9. What are dress shorts?

Shorts that look like dress pants with short inseems, not gym shorts or swim suits. Ryano posted a link to look them up, mine looked better than those but I'm guessing thats cause my legs were in em LOL

  10. Thats the way it SHOULD be!

Wow! Two weeks on Freedom! Im envious!

Ryano it was awesome, so much so that we weren't going to cruise next year because we just bought a place in Arizona and were going to spend time there, but we set up an open booking to go again next year. I find myself ageeing with you quite a lot on these boards, if we're ever cruising the same ship, I'd sure like to buy you a drink and say Hi.

  11. Just back from 2 weeks on Freedom, making no judgements and can't tell you what others wore because I don't care. This is what I wore and no one said a single word to me, passengers or RCI employees, for the 4 formal nights I wore polo shirt and dockers, for the smart casual (I didn't even know they had this any more), I wore long pants and a Caribbean shirt, and for the casual nights, I wore dress shorts with a polo or Caribbean shirt. I wore flip flops every night because I don't pack dress shoes on vacation. On the first week we had dinner with 2 other couples, who were not going to come to formal night because the men didn't want to dress up, I told them what I was wearing, they showed up and we had a great time, with good food and drink and no attitudes. :)

  12. Because I think most people have filters and know when it is or isn't appropriate to say something. Personally, I don't think people should wear open toes to the MDR, but I would never say anything to you. It's not my place to force my preferences on you and it certainly isn't my place to call you names for it...whether in person or through the anonymous internet. If it really bothered me, my beef would be with RCI for allowing it.[/quote]

    Exactly right

  13. The true character in a lot of people on this board has came out in this thread for sure.

You should not care in the least what an anonymous keyboard warrior on a message forum thinks. I guarantee they dont say that to peoples face on board.

I agree. And no one has ever said a word to my face on the ship, either passengers or RCI employees.

  14. And you take pride in this? Pathetic.

I take nothing in it, although I do have great legs. I was just trying to answer the OP by telling them my experience and I don't really care what you think. You calling someone you don't know pathetic, shows who the pathetic one really is now doesn't it?

  15. Was that why the ambulance was waiting for us on the dock on

Sunday? I was also on Freedom last week. I did not know about that accident.

On our December Freedom cruise, one of the ice skaters during the show got an artery cut by his partners skate. They said he would be out for weeks and Freedom had to adjust all future shows to work around his part.

I hope the young lady acrobat is doing better by now indeed. Difficult and dangerous

    job they do.

Did you see the bad accident one of the lady passengers had on a jet ski? It was right

in front of the ship at Labadee. It took a long time to bring her back to the ship since they had to immobilize her fearing a spinal injury. One of the officers said they had to bring her

off the ship later for more care than they could provide.

I did not see the jet ski accident. The ambulance could have been waiting for the entertainer, we were backing to backing it so we didn't get off to see. We did see someone that broke their foot on a root on the beach at Cococay, so I guess it's dangerous for us as well as the entertainers

  16. Just returned from back to back cruises on Freedom. At the end of the first week during the farewell show on March 1, an entertainer, during an aerial act fell to the stage, ending the show. The next morning they announced she was doing better and had been transferred to a Florida hospital. Does anyone have info on her condition?
