  1. I am cruising in a couple of weeks. Have purchased the required amount of shares for the OBC. Sent in the form and had it sent back stating they need to see my name attached to the amount of shares. Since I recently purchased them I do not have a statement with my name on it yet. Has anyone else encountered this issue and was there something that you could do to resolve it?

No joke, two hours ago, I received this email from NCL "The shore excursion description for MSN_30 / HIGHLIGHTS OF TAORMINA has been updated. Please note, the tour no longer pauses for photos at Cathedral of Messina." @cruiseny4life are you the most powerful influencer on Cruise Critic?🤔

We received the same email and were not disappointed by the change 😂

@rnr4thatsme  First, newly purchased CruiseNext Certs no longer expire (was 4 years from date of purchase ...) so you "should" consider buying at least 2 (or more) if you think you will be sailing NCL in the near future.  Second, the DoubleUp for ANY stateroom doesn't run that often, unlike the DoubleUp for balcony & higher and cruise is at least 4 months or more out ... and, as you can see, for a "limited" time basis only - plus it is valid for ANY sailings.  Sometimes, it is only valid on selected sailings as designated by NCL (i.e. for that month's specials only, translation - slow selling ones with unsold inventory)

Odds are NCL won't offer this until the Fall again or Winter into early 2025 when new bookings tend to slow down a bit ...

If you buy 2 of them and do not plan to take the OBC, your cost is just $250 for 2 certs with a face value of $250 each ... these OBC cannot be used for certain purchases onboard, i.e. DSC.

Noticed that you are from Canada, be mindful that you should buy them in USD terms and not as $250 Canadian dollars (double check this onboard with the CruiseNext staff) ... don't recall the specifics but a number of your fellow citizens had mentioned "issues" when using them b/c of the currency exchange/conversion rate in effect when they decided to endorse or use it for a given sailing.  Someone else browsing from Canada with experience can probably help explain this.

I have purchased them numerous times and always purchased them in USD.
when we settle our account at the end of the cruise, we pay in USD, therefore the cruise next certificates are paid in USD. If you book your next cruise in CAD and apply the cruise next, the cruise next is converted into CAD.

No, I was saying 10 years ago, the NCL cruise I was on felt like a more refined group of passengers.  There's something elegant about seeing most passengers in formal attire.  Like the early days when cruising was a means of transportation to get from England to America.

If this is the same cruise I think I am remembering, on the formal-suggested nights I think I remember the dailies saying that if you want to dress casual to eat dinner at the buffet.   For the most part, people complied.  They didn't turn anyone away in the MDR though.  Maybe I am getting my past cruises mixed up?

This time around, no mention of any formal or formal-suggested nights.  Since I hadn't cruised in years, I don't know when this change happened.  I wore t-shirts in the dining room, as did many others.

That sounds like a Celebrity cruise. On their formal/ dress up nights, if you choose not to dress up you aren’t allowed in the MDR and certain areas of the ship. We don’t dress up on cruises so we had to eat at the buffet those nights and didn’t go to any of the shows.

  5. I’m on the fence about packing cubes. On one hand they seem great for keeping items organized on the other hand they seem to take up so much room in a suitcase that there isn’t any space for packing things (souvenirs) I might pick up along the way and want to bring home with me. Or for bringing home a bottle or two of alcohol. .For those of you who use packing cubes do you find this to be the case?

  6. I’m trying to check in for my cruise. It shows my cruise is in 21 days, it shows I have paid for my cruise, however the check in button is grayed out. Does any have any idea why it’s not letting me check in? The cruise is our of Los Angeles. Does the check out time need to be 12:01 am California time?

I am happy that I am in agreement with everyone here.

The wife and I returned last week from the NCL Gen which was sailing from Boston to Quebec. We hit Bar Harbor,  Halifax and Sydney but missed the last two ports. I can't even remember the names but one is where Anna Green Gables is located\inspired

Anne of Green Gables is in Prince Edward Island. The port was probably Charlottetown. When the winds are high in the Northumberland Strait, the bridge that connects the provinces of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick will be closed as the winds can cause bigger trucks and tractor trailers to tip over. If the Captain of the ship chose not to tender to the Island it was probably for safety reasons.

The other port you missed may have been Saint John, New Brunswick.
