  1. We were originally going to catch the Express train, but decided not to due to their timings and lack of frequency. We are just going to catch a standard train once we walk or catch a bus/taxi to the station, depending on how far it is and the weather.

If anyone else is planning on doing something similar, maybe we could meet up?. There is safety in numbers lol.

    Regards

There are plenty of regional trains that will get you back in time for an 8 PM departure.  If you want to, you can spend more (16 euro) for a Frecce train at 18:27 (6:27 PM) that arrives to Civitavecchia at 19:14 (7:14 PM).  With this train you get a guaranteed seat and a non-stop trip from Termini.

I think it is a back on board for 6.30pm?

I followed Euro Cruiser's instructions in post 30.  The hardest part for me was just finding the "buy" button to start the purchase!  Finally found it at the very top of the page on the left in small print.  After that it went easily 🙂

I didn't know a bus ride was also required. We thought that you could just walk to the train station from the port and then walk from  Rome station to the attractions?

For our private group tour with italytours.eu that included a private guide at the Vatican and skip the line option...we thought 246 Euros for the two of us wasn't a bad deal.

    Not bad at all thanks.

Trenitalia is finally addressing the overcrowding on the commuter line between Civitavecchia and Rome.  On April 1st a new service will start directed at cruise passengers, it will run April 1 through December 14th.

There will be two trains each morning and two returns in the afternoon.  As will not make any stops between Civitavecchia and Rome the trip will be about 10 - 15 minutes faster than the regional train.  Other key points:

    •  Seating is guaranteed, there are 720 seats on the train and only 720 tickets will be sold
    •  There will be two stops in Rome, San Pietro (for those heading to the Vatican) and Ostiense (connecting to metro for those heading to downtown Rome)
    •  A one way ticket costs 10 euro, round trip is 15 euro
    •  Children 4 and under travel free (but do not get a seat), children up to 12 accompanied by an adult travel free and do get a seat (one child per adult)
    •  There will be self serve kiosks in the Civitavecchia station to purchase tickets

So far there is nothing mentioned about buying these tickets on line ahead of travel, we'll have to watch for that.

The newspaper article, in Italian, can be found here:  https://roma.corriere.it/notizie/cronaca/19_febbraio_12/roma-nasce-civitavecchia-express-che-collega-porto-capitale-aa07d474-2edc-11e9-9800-d9788a74058f.shtml?refresh_ce-cp

  7. Thank you. Everything you say makes sense. The problem with a taxi is the cost, plus we do't want to have to stand in lines for hours. At least with most tours they have "beat the line" tours.

  8. Can anyone please recommend a honest and reliable tour company to take us to Rome and Florence on the Explorer of the Seas cruise on the 21st September 2019?

    Many thanks

  9. Thanks for that and hopefully we will. We did actually go there last year but did a less hectic tour than what we are this time.

I also appreciate your comments and totally agree apart from some members being a bit touchy when tour operators are mentioned, to them I would say get a life as everyone is entitles to make reasonable comments which I believe mine were.

  10. I never said that i was recommending Alla, I simply said that they had been helpful in assisting us which tour to take and that they seemed to obtain more top reviews than anyone else. Both of those comments were true. Also I have read dozens of similar comments on Cruise Critic.

As for offering a discount, yes they do, but it wasn't as much as other tour companies. We booked them because of their service to date not the cost, as we could have booked a similar tour cheaper.

I hope that explains my comments and apologies if I placed it in the wrong section.

  11. We are booking a tour with Alla mainly due to the strong reviews on here. They seem to be the most popular choice of tour companies. I have to say up to now they have been excellent on helping us choose the right tour for us.

Hope to see some of you on our Alla tour and the ship.
