  1. Cruise mom,

I too have visited Pompei but would like to visit Herculaneum this time. Could you send me a copy of your notes please. I will be visiting in September.

    Email: pipit1288@gmail

    Thanks

    Swee

  2. The stop is called Ercolano Scavi.

It is closer to Naples than Pompeii; I did it coming from the other direction (Sorrento) but I'd say it's about 20 minutes.

Can't answer re: the taxi, but the train is pretty easy. Once you get off the train, you'll walk downhill down a major road with the train station at your back. This road basically dead-ends at the entrance to Herculaneum in about 4-5 blocks -- you can't miss it.

    There's no museum onsite.

Yes, you should have enough time to do both Herculaneum and the Archaeology Museum.

I have a lot of info on Herculaneum, included notes for a self-guided tour (having just done it a few weeks ago). If you want to give me an email, I'd be happy to send it to you.

  3. After looking at the location of Continental Novum on Googlemap, it seems to be quite easy to get there from Hamburg Hotel. Unfortunately the special rate is unavailable yet for Sept. On the hotel website they are charging exorbitant rate. I'll keep trying, otherwise I will take your advice and book into Radisson Blu which is available at less than A$400 for 2 nights for 2. Any suggestion how to spend a day at Hamburg? Any recommended restaurants in the city? I am not used to rich creamy food. Thanks for being a valuable ambassador for your country. I am currently working with a German colleague who is from the north.

  4. As we would be flying for over 20 hours to get to Hamburg, we would like the convenience of not getting a train to the central station. We also have heavy suitcases so we prefer not to have to carry our suitcases up and down the stairs at the station. We would take your advice about staying at the recommended hotels. What is the best way to get to one of these hotels beside taking an expensive taxi?

  5. I have just booked a cruise on Msc Poesia leaving Kiel to New York next September. I have booked our flight arriving Hamburg on 8th Sept. at 1400 hr. - 2 days pre cruise. As there are not much to see at Kiel, I planned to stay at a hotel near Hamburg airport and communte from there to the city centre. We would like to have a free airport shuttle to the hotel. On the day of embarkation, we would return to the airport and catch the direct bus that leave hourly for Kiel. Could you recommend a hotel near the airport which is at least 3 1/2 star. I have not decided whether to book Mercure airport or Courtyard by Marriot Hotel.
