I just looked up Chonburi, never heard of it before. It sounds interesting. How did you get there?

We just came back from 4-week Japan/Thailand trip last month. Tokyo is like NYC on steroids and Bangkok is like NYC on Xanax 🙂 Chonburi town is busy, but not as bad as Bangkok. Seafood is also amazing and fresh there, but I would recommend you to bring some prescribed antibiotics with you on the trip if you tend to have a sensitive stomach. Lady boy show was really fun, but you might need to book in advance since it's a popular Tourist destination. There is NO Uber in Thailand. We used Taxi Grab available on the phone application. However, it seems like you have little time there, so a private tour would work best. Everywhere you go in Thailand you will need a car/driver. I would think Silversea offers a private tour as an excursion. We had private tours in Thailand several times in the past and it would come with a driver and you pay extra for gas, toll fee (if any) and a tour guide. They will take you where ever your heart desires.

  2. It might take over 2 hrs by bus, but not by car. And depends which day of the week and which parts of the city you plan to go. One full day in Bangkok should be enough. You will feel exhausted from pollution, traffic, and crowds. So many places you can see and do around Laem Chabang like Chonburi downtown (better food than Bangkok and friendlier people), Lady boy show or Nong Nooch Tropical Garden in Pattaya, and many small islands with 10-15 mins boat ride. You can PM me with questions.

I am a mid life newbie to cruising having just done my first cruise a month ago to the Western Caribbean and loved everything about it other than the large ship experience with thousands of people on it. A couple of weeks ago I just booked our second cruise and will be sailing for the first time with Silversea on the Muse to Alaska next May 28th - June 4th.  I'm aslo thinking of adding a post cruise excursion to Denali National Park.

This thread has been a real pleasure to read. I appreciate the pictures, the stories and the advice from many on here. The only problem I have with reading all this is that it will only make the wait that much more difficult before our next cruise. Thanks all!

After traveling around the world, we are finally booked our FIRST cruise EVER to Alaska on May 28th as well. I came across this forum and now I can't wait for another 10 months to be on the Muse and to Alaska. We don't plan to do the post-excursion in Denali because we plan to be in Vancouver for 5 days pre-cruise. Maybe Terry in Ohio might change our minds.... will see 🙂

Thanks Daveywavey70 for the great live post!
