  1. We took the ferry by buying tix from the excursion desk. Once you get to Placencia, you are on your own. No tours...just a sidewalk and a couple streets.  We ate at Dawns and the food was good, but everything in the town was very run down, and no AC so be prepared mentally!  I wasn’t thinking and paid in USD and realized after, the check was in Belize $$ so I basically paid double because of my mistake.  There are a few beaches to walk and photo take, but I didn’t see people laying out just photo taking.  I enjoyed the adventure, but would not go to Placencia again as there was very little to do. I would stay on the boat or choose another excursion.

I also want to spend the day in Placencia during my cruise in March. My husband and I have shore excursion credit for this particular cruise. Does anybody know if we can use that credit to buy tickets for the ferry? Is this just me wising for the best? Hehehehe. Either way I will go to Placencia, it is one of those places that excites me to know.

Remind me in December... I am going to try to use an onboard credit so we will see if it works!

A big change from the original one port of years ago.

Is Norwegian still going into Coxen Hole given the construction?

Monkey LaLa is right in port if you want just a bar. And there's Captain Jack's and Fort Consolation both a short distance away to your left.

If you're looking for good Honduran food close to the port, try Berties or Madah's Kitchen, both a short walk along the road going to your right out of the port.

Hi There - Is Fort Consolation walkable from the Coxen Hole Port and a safe walk?  My Mom and I will be walking there as she won't zip line 🙂 I have heard mixed comments on safety and don't want to walk somewhere too far or sketchy 🙂

Thanks Guest.   Apparently via TA reviews there's a water slide at the end of the pier where you can enter the water and perhaps snorkel a bit.  Not sure what you'll see there.  Think they planted a fake cannon or two.   Zip line could be fun.  But menu looks Mexican not Honduran.:classic_sad: nevertyheless, whole snapper is a fav in Mexican ports for us.

HI There -  DId you end up going to Fort Consolation?  I am curious how it was, and if the walk back to the cruise ship was ok (I have heard mixed opinions on safety etc).  Thanks!

Just took the ferry in March.  When we did it it was $30pp, well worth it!  The ferry runs multiple times per day and usually your return time is 3 hours after your ferry over.  As crewsweeper said you book it on board, I believe you can also book it at the ferry dock, but I am not positive on that.  I did ours through the TV in our room.  We chose the 9am time and with that one when we checked in they gave us the latest return ferry.  The person checking us in said it was because most people that take the 1st ferry over have an excursion so they don't impose the 3 hour return time.  From what I have read if you do not make your return ferry at the specific time you have to wait until there is space available on the next one.  I believe someone said they had to wait over an hour when they missed their designated time, because the return ferries were full.  I believe our return was at 3:30?  Maybe 2:30.  I can't remember for sure.

Good morning!  When you say you booked the ferry on your TV, was it listed under the excursions?  I can't find a ton of info on the ferry - I even called NCL Excursions and they knew nothing about it!

When you went to Placencia, do you recall the $$ you used in town?  I would like to go for lunch and maybe a shop or two.  Are credit cards or US dollars accepted? Thank you!

  7. Hi There - I haven't cruised for a while and don't recall - what type of payment do taxis take in port?  We are going to Roatan, Mexico and Belize and plan to take local taxis.

Do they all take US Dollars or credit cards?  I can't imagine they would only accept their local currency?

Additionally, if you go to restaurants or souvenir shopping in local towns, do they also take US dollars and/or credit cards?  I really don't plan on converting $$.

    Thanks!

On Breakaway you can make your entertainment reservations at the Box Office, Deck 7 forward. Definitely book comedy shows as well as Rock of Ages (great show!).

Thank you! I didn't see anything about Comedy Shows so I will look for them!

I think if you arrive early and have to wait in the terminal you can download the NCL app and connect to the ships wifi and you might be able to book reservations on that.

What ship and port are you sailing out of? Might be able to give you some more specific advice for booking methods and venues/locations if you can provide that detail.

Awesome, thank you!  We are on the NCL Breakaway Nov 10th.   A couple shows don't seem to be able to book ahead of time (Rock of Ages, and a couple others)

If you need to book shows or specialty dining, that can be done as soon as you board.  We generally arrive at the port between 10-10:30. Never a long wait and board as early as possible. Gives us plenty of time to explore the ship and enjoy a tropical drink on the pool deck before the muster drill. ☀️🍹😎🎉

Thanks!  There are some shows that say they cannot be booked online in advance, so we want to make sure we get tickets as soon as able. 🙂 I don't think our ship allows boarding until noon, but I guess we could get there a little early to checkin?

  11. Hi Expert Cruisers,

Does anyone have any info on what is open/available to do once you board the ship on embarcation day?

My Mom and I are trying to decide what time to arrive within the boarding 'window'.

If we arrive early, can we go to a restaurant, go to the pool, enjoy the Aqua Park activities on the ship (zip line etc), go get theater tix, or is all this stuff closed and dark until after the lifeboat drill anyway?  If things are open and there are things to do, we might get there on the early side, but if there is really not much happening until dinner time, we may arrive on the later side of the boarding window.

    Any advice or info?

    Thanks!

I just booked my first GTY for November and already have my room assignment.   Does NCL usually keep this assignment or can my room number/category still change?    I like the location I’ve been given and am hoping to keep it.

We also just got our Sail Away assignment for November and we like our room! It’s a wheelchair accessible which is great for my 80 year old Mom moving around but she is not in a wheelchair - just limited.  I fear they may reassign us. If they do, would they upgrade us, or could they lower our room back to a worse room (obstructed view etc)

Hope my question makes sense. Wondering once the room is assigned at a particular higher level of room type OA instead of lower OX, etc, if once assigned it can only go up in level, and not down? I’d be bummed now we have a good room for it to be lowered to a worse room.

Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

I book Sail Away all the time, (15 cruises), usually inside rooms; of all those cruises I would say only once were we in a less desirable room, it was ok, but a tad noisy when we got into port (very front of the ship, so anchor and lines noises). Twice we were upgraded to an obstructed or full oceanview room. I intend to book sail away as much as I can. It's a bit of a risk, but the way I see it, I am on the ship, so I am good.

When you do receive the room assignment?  Is it well before the sail date, or a day before, or it is when you get to the ship?  Thanks!
