I prefer to eat alone with my husband but if sharing a table I always find it much more pleasant to be seated at a 6 or 8 top for this very reason.

We always ask to share because we get bored staring at each other. 😝  The bigger the table, the better because it increases the odds you won't be seated next to a jerk.

I've been looking at menus online and one of the gala menus has surf and turf. I'm hoping we will have that one because the guys in my family would enjoy it, so that's why I'm wondering if it is only on 7 day or longer cruises.

Princess "surf and turf" is usually a piece of beef (tenderloin, if lucky) and two or three very large shrimp (prawns) but not lobster.  The last lobster I had on Princess (why I ordered it, I do not know) was one lobster tail about 5 inches long on top of a bed of tasteless risotto.  You might like all of it, but don't get your hopes up for a full on Maine lobster feast.  Also, hasn't Princess started charging for a second helping of the lobster?

So you've actually asked? As I've said I can't tell the difference. On long parts of a trip with no ports I wonder how they keep it fresh.

    Refrigeration?  Just a thought.

Taking my 16 year old grandson on a cruise. His intrest in excursions my be different from mine. Is he able to do excursions on his own?

I would not be comfortable letting my 16 year old grandchild go off on an excursion with people I did not know if I were not there to keep an eye on him.  The Princess policy is there to protect both children and grandparents.

  5. How bad for you.  Are you now fully recovered?  In a similar situation, we have taken turns holding our place in line while the other finds a place to sit (or lean) preferably in the shade.  Too bad that wasn't an option for you.  (I notice an umbrella in your photo and think I might take one ashore myself in future.)

Yes, but, they all have their own vibe. The only one I haven't been on is Sirena. I've been on Regatta more than any other Oceania ship, but that's just the way it's worked out.

I really like Nautica, even with a couple of things I'd like to see different. I'll be on it again in Dec.

I board next month.  Looking so forward to it.  This is my first Oceania cruise, but I know the R class from Azamara and Princess.  I get spoiled on small ship and hate to return to the large ships when we go back to other lines.

As an American I had never ever heard of UHT milk until I started cruising. I'm not even sure it's available at our local store.

We became familiar with it from our visits to French relatives over the years.  When it's cold, I don't mind the taste, but for some reason I don't like it in the hot coffee.  Go figure.

Cruising Princess for the first time Saturday,I hope your food critique doesn’t come to fruition for us.

You will find something you like.  It's true that there are some weird dishes (avoid Grandma's Coq au Vin) but there are some good ones, too.  The fettucini Alfredo is always a favorite.  I once sailed with a lady who ordered it every night and alternated a chicken breast or shrimp with it.  If all else fails, there is always a pretty decent chicken breast with a sauce. You can also order off the children's menu if you want something "plain" like chicken tenders or mac and cheese.

This thread is depressing.  Makes me not want to live a long life.

Using mobility equipment is not strictly a feature of old age.  Did you make it through childhood without contracting polio?  You'll probably be okay.

  10. Luck of the draw?  Maybe it's the ship or the itinerary.  We are also first timers in a steerage cabin and had to wait for 45 days.  However, I got reservations for two restaurants at 6:30 pm.  We asked to share a table.  We always do.  I don't know if that had anything to do with it.  I fully accept that if I want the perks of a higher-priced cabin, I will have to pay for them.
