We just took pictures of our cards and put them in folders on our phones

Excellent! I would make sure to have a copy of the card images in the phone's memory as well as in a cloud storage service. This way, should something happen to the phone (like go swimming in the ocean) you'll have an accessible copy of it.

There will be a select group of shops and dining venues on certain islands that will accept Medallion Pay. The app mentions that you'll get 5% back on shoreside Medallion purchases.

Okay, thanks. I thought it might have something to do with PC owned islands. As my cruise is Alaskan out of Seattle in August, I doubt there are any islands/beaches owned up there.😁

  3. On the MedallionClass app, in the Travel Checklist section, when you open the "MedalionPay" it lists "Shipboard" and "Shoreside".'

Okay, I understand "shipboard" and the importance (to Princess) of having your CC information but what is Shoreside? Why would Princess need my CC info when I am off the ship? Any ideas?

    thanks

We'll will be on, I hope, the same 8/8/21 Alaskan Cruise. Cruise has been paid in full. Have tried for the last two weeks to access the MedallionClass App which I have repeatedly added, deleted, added to my iPhone but whenever I attempted to log in on the app with either E-mail address or booking number, the screen flips me out or goes blank. Just called Medallion Support, again, and was told: "WE'RE WORKING ON IT, TRY AGAIN LATER." Maybe I'll try again, next month!!

Well if they don't get it fixed by cruise time, we can have fun playing games in the Seattle terminal. I wonder if Princess would give us deck of cards at low, low price - you know the cost of a 7 day Alaskan cruise.

My cruise is August 22, 2021 and I have been receiving the message for about a week.

My Alaskan cruise (and that of 7 family members) was originally scheduled to depart on 7 Aug 2021. Princess cancelled that cruise and rebooked us on a similar cruise scheduled depart on 8 Aug 2021. Although the app says that this cruise is "is already part of your Journey.", I cannot access it. Any information I put in it defaults to the cancelled cruise. I have called and sent emails, I have done everything I know to do but to no avail.

There are 2 cruises before mine, the first is scheduled for 25 Jul 2021. Decisions about dining, excursions and paperwork that must be filled out on the app must be dealt with. What will happen if this continues.

I work with computers, I understand the vagaries of them. And that it takes time to fix the problems.

But, the MOST infuriating part of all this, is the silence. It as if they do not have any respect or consideration for the people buying their services. I would like to know they understand and have empathy for their passengers.

  6. I was thinking about this issue this evening.

As much as this is such a pain for us because we want to plan everything now that we have a cruise scheduled in 4 years from now (or in the case of my family group of 6 vaccinated adults and 2 under 12yr olds, 63 days from now). I can only imagine how insanely stressed the managers, captains, VPs must be over the problems with the app and the website.

They have to get this app to work fully and do so very quickly. There is only 49 days until the first Alaskan cruise! Plus, they have no idea what the CDC may require next.

  7. I really don't know why everyone is complaining about Princess MedallionClass app. I have it on my iphone SE (2020), my iPad and my Macbook Air (M1, 2020) on which will you can load iPad apps. It doesn't work on any of them but hey, we can walk around looking like we are real PC passengers. What could be better than that (besides eating, drinking, or just getting on the ship after paying PC thousands of dollars)!

According to the CDC it isn't necessary.  But Princess has not yet published their final rules.  They are going to have a joint TA webinar with reps from Princess, HAL, and Seabourn to discuss the new rules.  Hoping we will find out shortly thereafter what their plans will be.  We are booked on one of the first cruises and are anxiously awaiting this news.

My TA has said that the TC will be tomorrow.

That works real well for those of us who do not own smart phones.

I've wondered about this. My sister cannot get her iPhone app to open far enough to complete the information.

I understand that Princess must be under enormous pressure to get their cruises operating. But they must realize that having ships going from port to port with unhappy passengers because they can't provide those passengers with the tools the cruise line is requiring them to use. My question is when will they take care of their responsibilities.

As far as I know the only non vaccinated people on these cruises would be children under the age of  12 who cannot yet get the vaccine

Not necessarily true. Next Thursday, 3rd of June, there will be a big teleconference with TAs. It is expected that the rules for this summer will be clearly specified. As of now, there are 3 groups that may qualify for an exemption to the vaccine rule - those with a medical reason not to receive the vaccine, those with a religious restriction and yes, those children under 12 of age.

I think it is fair to suggest that Princess is not trying obfuscate the situation. Given that they are in the business of making customers happy, they will do what they can to accomplish that goal. The problem is there are so many stakeholders in the decision process and the rules coming from the CDC are at best a matter of "shifting sand".

  11. Okay, let us all be ever so glad that Princess in business of floating boats and not an internet/software company

I and 7 family members were scheduled for a round-trip Alaskan cruise out of Seattle. That cruise cancelled on 20 May 2021.  We have successfully been rebooked on another cruise. Yeah!!!

Of course we have run into "issues", these issues:

    • One Princess excursion starts at 11:30 am unfortunately the ship docks at noon.
    • The Medallion app lists only the cancelled cruise.
      • I can't delete it
      • i can't enter the new cruise into the app (the app says its there but I can't find it)
    • The Login continues to go down.
    • My family includes 5yo and 3 yo boys. Princess told me that they may be able to go on the cruise as part of the 5% not-vaccinated but that decision will be 72 hours before the cruise, "IT'S THE CDC RULE". When I pointed that there is no vaccine approved for the children, I was told that they would just have to be because IT'S THE CDC RULE". And the PC rep would not believe me when I told her that the CDC has absolutely nothing to do with drug approval, that's the job of the FDA.

I figure that PC is busy jumping through burning triangular hoops trying to deal with everything they must.

We have the cruise, it's confirmed and we have the flights. And, we have time for Princess to get everything worked out.

The text that I have highlighted in red is a really big "if".  What if Canada doesn't approve or congress does not go along with the PVSA modification.  Also will there be many Alaskan tourist destinations that will staff up and set up for a few weeks of cruising from just 3 ships.  Don't get your hopes up too high.

    DON

Huh? Canada? The whole point of this is that with the temporary change in the law, the ships will not be going to Canada - other words, Canada will be bypassed for this year. And Congress has gone along with it.

There will be plenty of cheaper 3rd party holders available less expensive than the Apple holders. Some are already available.

Very true, my question was more along the lines of whether or not after the cruise, I could use medallion holder for an Apple tag.

Actually, I was thinking about getting the medallion holder now for the tag and then use it when I am on the cruise.

  14. https://www.princess.com/news/notices_and_advisories/notices/pause-extension-seattle-through-june-27-2021.html

    "March 16, 2021 10:05AM PT

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – While Princess Cruises continues to work with various United States and Canadian government officials to try to preserve a portion of the Alaska 2021 cruise season, the company is extending its pause of cruise vacations for sailings from Seattle through June 27, 2021.

The pause in operation affects seven-day Alaska Inside Passage cruises on Emerald Princess and Majestic Princess.

For guests booked on a cancelled voyage, Princess will offer to move guests to the equivalent cruise in 2022. The rebooking process will have the added benefit of protecting the guests’ 2021 fare on their 2022 voyage. Alternatively, guests can choose a future cruise credit (FCC) equivalent to 100% of the cruise fare paid plus an additional non-refundable bonus FCC equal to 10% of the cruise fare paid (minimum $25 USD) or a full refund to the original form of payment.

Requests must be received through this online form by April 15, 2021 or guests will automatically receive the FCC option. FCCs can be used on any cruises booked by and sailing by December 31, 2022.

Princess will transfer the commission earned by travel agents from the cancelled 2021 cruise to the new booking in 2022 for bookings that were paid in full. This convenience is in recognition of the critical role they play in the cruise line’s business and success."

Let the 'I hate Princess" negativity begin.

(Am I really the first to post this?)

I can not figure out why so many supposedly intelligent people have so much difficulty differentiating the Jones Act passed in 1920 w the PVSA passed in 1886.  Why do so many people seem to think that they are somehow the same act or one law is part of the other law.  Totally mystifies me.

For those people, repeat over and over until it is permanently part of your memory

"Jones - freight.  PVSA - people."

    DON

Maybe it's because some cruise lines treat its passengers as cargo.

I wonder if you could go on this one?

Has anyone bothered to check to see what HAL has actually said on the website?

"... the company is extending its pause of cruise operations for all departures through April 30, 2021. This includes Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Canada/New England departures."

" the company is extending its pause of cruise operations for all departures through April 30, 2021. This includes Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast, Caribbean, Mediterranean and Canada/New England departures."

    and finally,

    "

Cruises impacted by this pause in operation are:

    • All cruise departures through April 30, 2021.

    • Alaska: Eurodam and Oosterdam through the first week of June (roundtrip from Seattle); Koningsdam through mid-May (roundtrip from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada); Nieuw Amsterdam and Noordam through mid-May (roundtrip Vancouver and between Vancouver and Whittier, Alaska); and Zuiderdam though early June (roundtrip from Vancouver)."

    https://www.hollandamerica.com/en_US/news/impacted-cruises.html

Thus, Fall 2021 HAL Alaskan Cruises have NOT been cancelled as of 21 Feb 2021.

I am always mystified as to why people post false information.

I have attempted to verify the statement supposedly attributed to President Biden. I can find no reference to this statement. Please provide a reference (i.e., web link) to support your comment.

This is not a reccomendation one way or the other but below is my experience.

(ocean.com is the address of the old Princess ocean medallion site. )

I clicked it and it takes a long time to load but does indeed go to the ocean.com site. However, before actually visiting the site I did the following:

I checked the link to see what it says. The mail appears to come from ocean.com but the link redirects to: post.spmailtechno.com

Trend Micro is a major anti-virus company that has a free URL checker online. The URL checker is located at: https://global.sitesafety.trendmicro.com/

I put the suspect URL into the checker and the results are below.

    image.png.920674724c87a7924cef5c24a10b7856.png

I stand corrected. I did use the Trend Micro as well as Google Transparency Report on "Ocean.com". It reported, "No unsafe content found." And after the "Ocean.com" website was restarted 3 times (it kept being stopped due to the amount of time to load) it finally loaded. This website does list "Carnival Corporation" and the 9 cruise lines.

However, my earlier concerns - (1) no carnival account, (2) the use of the Sea Witch logo without any use of the word "Princess" and (3) no mention of a policy change on Princess.com or the iPhone app - remain. It is just likely that CC's department of emails can't figure out how to write a decent email.

  19. Its not legitimate. Look at it, there are several inconsistencies:

    • It is not from any princess or Carnival email address. "Ocean.com" does not exist.
    • it claims to be from "your Carnival Corporation MedallionClass  Account". I do not have such an account (and yes, I did get the email).
    • It uses the Princess "Sea Witch" logo but does not use the word "Princess" anywhere in the email.
    • I can find no mention of such a change in policy on the app or on Princess.com.

Now, if you did click on the link, I suspect you  - as well as I because I did without thinking about it, clicked the link - will get more spam. So, be careful what you click on in the future.

  20. To the original question, "How did Princess and other cruise lines become the only ones at fault?"

It is the Law of Deep Pockets. This law states, "Never sue anyone that cannot afford the 40% pre-expense legal fees." Or whatever the going rate is now days.

There is also a psychiatric condition that may be at play in the desire to blame the cruise lines. In psycho-babelistic syndrome, which is also the Law of the King Baby: I want what I want, and I want it NOW!
