Following as my daughter and I will be on in YC in June.  A couple of questions.  Since I have only done one cruise with MSC this past December, is it normal to have to make reservations for shows?  Do the shows normally have a fee?  Is it free for YC?  Also, we also heard the same thing re the thermal spa in the Divina about YC reservation needed.  We really weren't interested as it was small and crowded and no thalossotherapy pool.  Did you have a chance to see the area?  My daughter for some unknown reason wants to sit in there and relax.

No fees.  Main theatre was always free. La Cabera Rouge is more like a nightclub.  Small acts that run from 7:00 to 10:00.  We saw a few, they were good

  2. Service at dinner was great again.  I got the crab cakes and filet.  One of us got the cioppino and also the shrimp risotto.

After dinner we went look at the shops and then the show Encore.  The show was great.

  3. So a note about the food. I’m Cajun, so I’m used to using a lot of seasonings.  MSC’s style or culture of cooking is different. I have found they use very fresh ingredients with minimal seasoning and let the ingredients speak for themselves.  It’s different.  I like it, because I like experiencing different things.  If you want you can add salt and pepper. Better yet carry one of those small green and white cans of Cajun seasoning.  It goes with everything.

  4. Friday was Naussau.  Woke up early, because starting at 4:00 am someone was making a lot of noise outside our cabin.  We went up to the pool deck and had some breakfast at the grill. We have gotten into a routine of eating breakfast and lunch at the grill and dinner in the restaurant. Doing a long sit down for both lunch and dinner is just too much for us.  Besides, I find the difference between the outside grill and the formality of the restaurant to be a nice contrast.

The two women in our group tried the thermal spa.  I don’t know if it is a new rule, but they were told YC gets one hour per day.  They enjoyed it.

For lunch there was grilled veal tenderloin, grilled scallops, lamb chops, and pork and chicken skewers, veggies and sides.

After lunch we walked around the new Naussau port.

  5. At 6:30 we went to dinner at the restaurant. It was about 2/3 full.  Service was spot on.

Apparently the gluten free pasta they have is penne.  They made that for my wife with the sauce of the day, which was bolognese. She really liked it, said it was like her grandmother (who was first generation Italian). They also brought her some gluten free bread.

I had prime rib, one had lasagna, seafood guy had salmon.   All were good.

After dinner we went to Carabet Rouge for awhile, then to the magic show. We enjoyed both. In the main theater they blocked off 3 rows for YC so we didn’t need a reservation.

  6. At noon we went to lunch.  I had the carpaccio and the rockfish stew.  The stew had a bunch of mussels and a large piece of fish.  A guy in our party, who loves seafood, was very impressed

The matre’D came to the table and walked my gluten free wife through the menu.  He has done that each meal. Service was a little slow, but the restaurant was completely full.

after lunch we went to the room and unpacked. It is our first time in an inside cabin. It is a little small,  but comfortable.

after we went to the pool and watched the rocket launch and even cooler booster re-entry.

  7. We arrived at the parking garage at 10:00.  It opened around 10:15, we prepaid and parked.  There were plenty of spaces, we were on the ground floor near the exir

we walked to the tent and gave our bags.  We were immediately escorted to security and then to YC check in.  The terminal was basically empty.  After a quick check in and a glass of Prosecco we went on board.  We were in topsail by 11:00.

the cruise director, Melana was in the lounge and went table to table greeting everyone.  I have seen her in the lounge and around the pool constantly

Be warned that parking at Port Canaveral Terminal 10 is markedly degraded over the last two months with construction of a new second garage. The construction may take as long as 18 months. In a few weeks it may be okay as Terminal 10 will return to only two ships. In either case bag drop has shifted and even the crosswalks on the street out front have been shifted.

MSC needs to consider building its own dedicated terminal at Port Canaveral. Hopefully after Port Miami terminal is open and Galveston is done, PC will get one.

We are sailing on the 18th.  Has anyone parked in the garage recently?   If we use GoPort, what is the earliest they will bring you to the terminal?

So, yes - I agree with you.  I commented on another thread that our YC was experience was nowhere near the level that some of the YC regulars review on here - and I did notice on our cruise that at least one group of YC regulars who we spoke to briefly on board, seemed to get the VIP treatment.  Maybe MSC monitors cruise review boards and has a list of those who submit regular positive reviews?

I don’t have a lot of YC experience, but based on what I have and reading reviews on here, I have an opinion. 🙂

The best philosophy to employ in YC is if you want something, ask for it.  The staff wants to please you.  They seem to enjoy fulfilling requests.  Example, one night at dinner my wife didn’t like the menu, but there were multiple dishes the previous night she liked.  She mentioned that and the kitchen made her what she wanted.

I think the default service in YC is European, which some would describe as slow, formal, and maybe inattentive.

If you interact more, it’s a different deal.  I don’t think it’s a matter of some people getting special service, but maybe more of a cultural thing.  There are a lot of Europeans that cruise MSC. JMO
