You're welcome. Glad to help. I love the escargot at Le Bistro, but you might gag on it. My opinion doesn't help much, does it?

I get yourpont. You are being deliberately disingenuous instead of being clever, and you know it. Do you want to argue semantics? I'm not interested.

Teponaki is great and if you want you can krderudon noodles instead of rice. The shrimp and scallops the best the meat hit or miss you can have a combo if you want. Labistro onion soup and escargot duck good other hot or miss. Cagney shrimp cocktail and prime rib and lamb chops. Lobster bisque and onion soup  not good. Maderno toughcuts of meet I would pass on that one. Not worth the cost for salad bar. Italian calamari pasta carbonara and filet good.

THanks! I've been iffy about the Brazilian venue.

  3. I"M sailing first timeon the Escaape transatlantic April 8. I See they have 3 MDR. IS the menu rotation the same each night?

Also,  I was recently on a Royal Caribbean ship and it was awful on mmany fronts.  How are the deserts onboard?

I'm sure the bit about standing up for a woman has been written in many etiquette guides over the years. So whether code or rule, it is not unwritten. Interestingly, I think usually when someone of either sex arrives at a table everyone else tends to stand to greet them. As for every night being a formal night, that just seems what some people would like to believe.

I’m sure there are unwritten rules, usually to do with politeness. Smokers tend to try and keep their smoke away from those they are with, and, while there are signs on some escalators on the Underground saying stand on the right, Londoners do it anyway, wherever they are. Another unwritten rule seems to be that Cunard ships always leave Southampton a bit late. 🙂

Your example is not a not code, it's a custom. You chose to focus on the semantics. How is it that you have determined fomal dress in the evenings is a unofficial 'code'? I take Cunard's policy at face value. It's quite clear. To suggest otherwise does a disservice to those that attempt to follow the written policy in conjunction with what makes them comfortable.

One can never be “overdressed” on Cunard.
Consider a full round trip Crossing Voyage on QM, as there is an unofficial dress code (regardless of published) being “Formal” every evening except for the embarkation and pre disembarkation evenings.  Think one would love this.  Book onboard?

exactly how do you determine an unwritten rule?

Looking at Cunard to get back to the US as I can't fly. My husband doesn't own a tux does that mean we can't use the main dining rooms for dinner some nights? As we are sailing from US to Southampton then back the extra luggage for his suit isn't an issue. He's not thrilled with the idea because we have been doing smart casual only for so long. Me I'm easy just a cocktail dress and I'm done.

Also are jeans acceptable during the day except at tea of course? I'm looking at just a simple balcony cabin even though the cruise is only a TA in May.

Thanks we generally sail Princess or NCL so this level is new for us.

Since you are changing cruise lines, you should expect there to be differences. Dress is one of them. You should be prepared to have two formal nights and the rest as one would wear to a nice dinner out at a fancy restaurant. If that isn't to your liking, then Cunard will likely not be to your liking.

    That seems quite reasonable.

Otherwise you would taxi to Gare du Nord, Eurostar to St Pancras, taxi or tube to Waterloo, train to Southampton, taxi to hotel.

Saves you at least 4 changes, and if you need walkers some of those changes would have been quite difficult!

Other than someone wants to check the luggage at Coquelles it doesn't need to leave the trunk for the whole trip.

That's our thought. This is a very special trip. My mother is 88 and unlikely to travel to Europe afterward. Cost is a secondary issue. Convenience and ease of travel is primary.

Are you driving into Southampton the morning of embarkation?

I like the convenience of getting using the car service to complete everything in one trip, even at a premium to mass transit/hotel/more taxis etc.

Best of luck! When is your embarkation day?

We're going to Southampton the day before embarkation. Just a habit we have for making sure to accommodate any unexpected issues.  We embark 8/11

Thank you for your post. I’m doing a similar trip in June and planning on taking the Eurostar to Southhampton. I’ve never thought of direct car service there. If appropriate, can you share the name of your car service?

Now let’s hope the current turmoil in France will cool down soon to make any France segment of this trip happen.

Even King Charles and Camilla’s trip to France next week may involve some protests and Royal drama!

The car service is picking us up at the hotel in Paris and driving us to the hotel in Southampton. As part of the trip we will be taking the car on the train through the Eurotunnel. We have 3 people, three large suitcases, 3 carry-ons, and two folded walkers. So a very large SUV.  The cost is 2000 Euros. (which includes the cost of the train). Still interested in the link?

  10. We are US citizens flying to Paris, FR for 1 week and then driving to Southampton for a 1 night stay before embarking on a transatlantic back to the US. Do we need a visa for the UK?

For us, alcohol packages = slow death sentence; yet we love their prices as the sales subsidize the rest of the ship.  Similarly, zero proof package prices don't make much sense either - but they serve a greater purpose.😀

I imagine the soda package was one that actually made economic sense to buy, and hence they had to shelve it.

The beverage packages got way out of hand. It makes perfect sense to have non-alcohol, classic and premium.  Trying to personalize so that each person only gets what they will actually use is ridiculous. When you take a cruise, you either buy into an all-included experience or go do something else for vacation. IMO

maybe a good plan for  flying these  days more than ever is to pack a change of clothes in your carry on or wear  nice clothing  on the flight

    JMO

When we fly we wear  decent clothes  no PJ's/ workout wear / shorts

I dress strictly for comfort on a flight. But...I always fly in a day early too...especially during winter months. I always carry toiletries/meds, bathing suit, coverup, pj, and 2 changes undies and change of clothes in a carry on as well..

There were people in shorts and ratty tee shirts at the Captain's cocktail party last night.

If there are folks whose luggage never arrived, they will have to make do with whatever they have. Likely whatever t-shirts/shorts until the first port day, where additional tourist t-shirts  etc will be added.  I certainly wouldn't be buying over-priced sportwear at a port for cruise that is only a few days in length.

That is so discriminatory against teetotalers. I'm sure I won't get my full value with a zero-proof package.

🙄next someone will want a discount because although there is a pool, they don't use it. Discriminating against non-swimmers!

Huh I need to watch that.

Might explain when they asked the last time I was in the US they were like ‘are you sure’ and then ‘are you travelling alone’ ‘are you meeting anyone’ ‘why are you going on a cruise alone’

like my husband needs to be dragged out the house he’s that much of a homebody. Oh and he let his passport expire so I really don’t have anyone to go with.
The time I went to NYC I wore my husband’s fleece because it was December and cold. He works for a brokerage company so deals with cross border transit. At Toronto airport they asked about the fleece I said it was my husband’s so they responded with ‘he lets you travel without him’. I know they do try and provoke a response sometimes but it’s not the 40s. My father in law does that too, went to the movies with a friend and my husband was on the phone to his dad and my FIL told him he shouldn’t allow me out that late without him (it was 10pm). I really have to bite my tongue sometimes which is hard I take after my Scottish side 🤣

If anyone asked me any of those questions I would hit the roof!

Thirty years ago I went into PC Richards to buy a very expensive appliance, but no salesman would come help. I finally picked on and started to tell him what i wanted, and he told me it would probably be better if I came back with my husband since it was a very expensive purchase. I had the cash in my pocket!! I have boycotted them ever since.

Did you happen to use the gym while on Summit?  I’m referring to the weight lifting area, treadmills, not the spa nor the classes.  I read somewhere here that they limit the number of people allowed into this area at a time.  I called and the woman I spoke to said that they do, so,e times?    My husband is a real gym rat and the idea of not being able to work out on the cruise is enough to cancel.

The gym is never "full" on Summit

Yes indeed I agree with your point:  Celebrity isn’t losing money on anything they serve us to eat or drink, that is for certain.

What they pay for their labor is far below the US too so profit margins are higher.

I stay in midtown Manhattan in a 1BR suite for $350 a night (covers both of us) and our food isn’t more than $300 a day either.  So why Celebrity thinks they can charge what they are trying to charge now and then lower the quality is a mystery to me.

you 're analysis is flawed in numerous ways. You have no idea how the finances for the cruise industry in general and Celebrity specifically works. Even if you are a share holder, attend shareholder meetings and pour over the financial reports, you still will not have clue as to the key drivers of the business and the impact of the recent pandemic. If you find there is not sufficient vale...please just go elsewhere.

Here is a good response that would satisfy:

"I am very sorry that Celebrity fell so short by providing a ridiculously small lobster tail coupled with an unattractive blob of white rice and a single stalk of broccoli.  It clearly isn't the kind of meal experience we here at Celebrity promoted and that you believed you were paying for when you entrusted us with your hard earned money.  We will seek to do much better in the future and again apologize for taking your money and providing far less than what we promote."

    in your dreams maybe
