    hi SuzieQK,

Do you need to take that early flight? Last time we had a flight leaving early evening, so we were able to have a little tour around copenhagen. We saw the little mermaid, had a stroll through the beautiful Tivoli gardens. Saw the home of the royals and after the tour they brought us to the airport. Enough time to grab a bite and board the plane.
It was a wonderful way to end our time in Europe.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. We are spending 3 days in Copenhagen before our cruise, and have planned to see as much of the city as we can. My main concern for my flight home is making it to the airport for an early departure.

When we did this sailing on the Regal in 2016 Princess allowed a 9:30 AM flight departure through EZ Air.  We opted for the Princess transfer to the airport because I'd read that taxis may ocassionally be problematic at the port.  The early transfers were leaving by 6:00 AM. You'll should be fine with a 9:30 AM flight. Check and see what EZ Air allows!

So EZ Air shows a 9:25 am flight available from Copenhagen. And if we take Princess’ transfers, we should be fine?

You are a good half hour, maybe a little more from what I remember, from the airport. We were on a much smaller Seabourn ship-- we also docked at 5am. Ship was cleared around 645 (seemed held up a bit by something) and self disembarkation started about then. We didnt disembark until about 8:30 but we could have gone earlier if we carried our own bags

Personally I don't mind cutting things close but you might be pretty close with a 9:30am flight. You would have to self disembark and everything would have to go smoothly in terms of the ship being on time and being cleared on time. Might want to prearrage a car service. It's definitely possible but it will be close.

    Thanks so much!

  4. Goodmorning from day 4 in Budapest. Yesterday Avalon made arrangements to have buses to take us back into town for a combination walking tour and bus tour of both sides Buda and Pest. After the tour we boarded a smaller boat for lunch up and down the Danube. It was a very nice buffet lunch. The weather was in the 40’s with light rain. The afternoon you could choose two optional tours - a winery tour or an Architectural tour- both for a price. Avalon had 3 buses available, one to take you back to the hotel at 2 and two others to take you back at 4:30 if you chose to stay in the city for a while on your own. Dinner was at 7, buffet style in the hotels restaurant. Plenty of beer, wine and soft drinks were available.

This morning we are to put out our luggage by 7:30 so it can be taken to our ship. We were informed before dinner last night that instead of being bussed to do a tour of Bratislava then onto Vienna; our ship is coming in from Vienna to meet us in Bratislava-yeah!!! We will have a buffet breakfast at the hotel, then board the busses to embark the Avalon Panorama by 11am. Let our Danube River Cruise begin!!

How does it look upstream past Passau? Are ships finally getting thru past Regensburg?

  5. Today was supposed to be embarkation day, instead we were bussed 30-40 minutes away from the Danube to Aquaworld Resort for two nights. We are left on our own to find lunch and afternoon activities. We are told that we are free to use the water park facilities today, 6 of us from our group wanted to go to the City Market Hall and we had to pay for the taxis out of our own pockets. We have a meeting at 6 tonight with our Avalon rep and dinner will be provided at the hotel. I uploaded the newsletter Avalon handed out to us for the next two days. It rained off and on this morning-yeah!!

  6. Yesterday was my first day in Budapest, today we were supposed to start our cruise on Avalon’s Panorama. Instead we are checking out of our pre-cruise hotel and sent to another hotel Aquaworld for two nights, then being Bussed to Vienna. The plan is to board hopefully our ship in Vienna and start our cruise. We meet with the Avalon rep at 10am this morning for more information. The Danube in Budapest is very low. Rain is expected today and tomorrow. Staying positive!!

I have a question for those for whom the embarkation port has been modified: Rather than being put up in a hotel at the original port, are you being given a choice instead to board the boat (wherever it may be) on the date on which your cruise was supposed to start? We are due to sail from Budapest to Passau, and so far it's looking like our cruise will probably start instead in Vienna. Since we will already have had 4 days in Budapest by the start date of our cruise, our preference at that point would be to take the train to Vienna and board the boat there on our scheduled start date. Is this typically offered as an option? On one hand, since we have booked the stateroom from the start date we signed up and paid for, I'm not sure they would/could deny boarding (wherever the boat might be). I'd appreciate your thoughts as I continue to try to plan for contingencies ... (while keeping my fingers crossed that there is rain and the river remains passable between Vienna and Passau.)

Bubbulz- we were not given any choice from Avalon.

SuzieQK,  I hope you enjoy your river cruise despite the change in schedule.

I'm curious, was there any mention of your cancelling and getting a refund?  Only reason I ask is we did our own air so that wouldn’t be refunded however I’m in the process of making alternative plans, all cancellable, should things not change in the next 6 weeks regarding water levels.

Will continue hoping for rain and that you have an amazing time.

No mention of cancellation, there will be a refund for the 2 night hotel stay at 50% per day of the cruise only price including cabin upgrade. We are to get our refunds 2-3 weeks after the end of our cruise. Don’t know how Avalon will be handling our meal situation, a few people said that Avalon takes good care of their clients when these things happen. It will definitely be an andventure!

    1. We are supposed to leave on Avalon’s Panorama on Wednesday next week from Budapest to Prague. Our travel agent informed us yesterday that we wouldn’t be boarding in Budapest, but staying overnight for 2 nights in a hotel TBA. We will then be bussed to Vienna to board a ship(don’t know if it will be the Panorama), missing Bratslova altogether. This is my first ever river cruise, trying to keep an open mind.

  10. It really depends on the level of River. Because of low water levels, we didn't get into Passau until noon and left 6:45. I just returned on Monday night. It was a awesome trip, even with the low river levels.

Also if we haven’t signed up for the optional excursions before the cruise, can we sign up for them on the boat? Thanks!

    Senior lady

We leave on Oct.24th. What was your favorite place? And did you take any optional tours?

  12. We are currently on the Spendor eastern cruise. Last night while watching the 8:15 show VROOM it was interrupted with an announcement from the captain an emergency was taking place. They tried to restart the show but the shows crew was running around placing towels in an upper section of the theatre. The cruise director came to the front of the stage to say the show was cancelled. Another announcement came on from the captain that a small fire was taking place in the engine room, but that it was being handled. We went back to our cabin to wait. About 45 minutes later the Captain came on to say that the situation was assessed and that the fire was small fire was put out and all was well. So much for Friday the 13th! We are now on our last sea day heading back to Miami.
