Your high level of awareness will be helpful as you need to carry your passport.  You will also need to think about what other items you will take your short tour vs check with your luggage.  Medication, valuables, electronics and such generally should stay with you rather than in the checked luggage, though you don’t want to be overburdened on your tour.

I carry my money/passport in a chest money belt so I'm fine there. I typically travel light and usually only with a carry on, but I'm traveling with a friend this time. I don't wear jewelry or have any electronics other than my cellphone so as long as I don't lose that I'm golden. LOL

Like most ports, dropping your bags off is a separate part of the embarkation process done off to the side of the terminal entrance somewhere.  You can drop them off and then go wherever you like.

My parents and I planned to do the same thing upon arrival in Barcelona.  But when it came time to do it after the overnight flight from the states, we chose to just go ahead and check in and get on the ship.  It was hot and muggy in July, so we felt very icky and just wanted to relax.  We had a full day to sightsee in Barcelona on the back end of the cruise, so that made it better.

Getting right on the ship was the plan until the airline changed our flights and we are stuck arriving on the day of the cruise, and returning home right after debarkation. 😞 We had planned a full day before and a full day after the cruise, originally.

Thank you for the insight! ❤️

  3. Hello friends! I am cruising for the first time on RCI in April on the Symphony of the Seas, departing from Barcelona. I will get to the port by Airport Transfer around 11am. I would like to drop my checked bag at the ship, so that I can take the 3 or so hours just to do some quick sightseeing. Is this possible? (My check in is 3:30-4pm). I have tried looking around the net for answers but would love to know if any of you have had this experience. Thank you!

  4. Carnival cancelled my Sept.20th 2020 Radiance cruise out of NYC on April 1st. Filled out the refund form April 2nd that was sent via email. Waited til April 27th to call Carnival to find out the status of the refund. I'm a travel agent and knew the refund was taking unusually long; I should at have least had confirmation that the cruise was cancelled in the Cruise Manager, but it was still showing. Called Carnival and the rep said they haven't even looked at the forms yet as there were so many, but he went ahead and cancelled the cruise right then and there. It disappeared from my Cruise Manager. I was told I'd receive a full refund for the cruise, airfare, and transfers. Again I waited til May 28th, upon which time I filed a chargeback to the credit card I'd booked with. I really didn't want to go that route, but I've seen a lot of troubling things regarding Carnival and knew it might be a good idea in the event that something goes south for Carnival Corp with all this COVID mess. I'm glad I did, as today the chargeback was granted in my favour for the full amount, and I STILL hadn't received a refund from Carnival for any of the package, 113 days later.

So glad this chapter is over.

I think the problem is HOW you booked your cruise. Those of you that used a third party company, like Costco, or a TA, are having more issues getting your refunds than those of us that just booked directly through Carnival. I just book my vacations of all kinds myself because I prefer total control. I had all my refunds within 60 days.

Well /I/ booked directly with Carnival and it's been over 110 days.

BEWARE!  People are falling through the cracks.  On April 2nd I filled out and sent in the form to receive a 100% refund on my cancelled 5/3 cruise.  Eight days later I received a refund for the insurance only.  Then I patiently waited a total of 75 days until curiosity overcame me.  Yesterday I called Carnival and talked to a very polite lady who informed me that she saw no evidence on her computer screen that a refund was requested. She then went ahead and attempted to initiate the refund, but her system would not allow it without a supervisor override.  The supervisor balked at refunding me anything because "I had waited so long".  After making her aware of the 4/9 insurance refund, she saw that I had responded quickly and granted me the 100% refund.

My cruise has immediately vanished from my account, but she could not give me any idea as to when the refund will hit me credit card.

The moral to this story =  If you're waiting, don't be afraid to call and inquire.

I had to do the SAME thing. I filled out the cancellation form that was emailed to me, requesting a 100% refund. I took screenshots of everything to cover myself down the road if needed. Never heard anything back. I was curious too, so I called Carnival on May 27th when I'd noticed my cruise was still showing in my Cruise Manager despite Carnival confirming in the original email that the itinerary had been cancelled for that ship. I spoke to a nice representative, but he did not see anywhere where I had requested a refund, could not find in the system where the 'form' would be to look up. I had him cancel the cruise right then and there. He confirmed that I would be receiving a 100% refund in 90 days or less from THAT date, May 27th (so I'd wasted a good month waiting for nothing). Still nothing on this end, but I do see the cruise is finally removed from my Cruise Manager. PLEASE people - if you filled out the form on April 1st, I'd strongly recommend calling to confirm your cancellation and request your refund (or FCC, whichever you took). Otherwise the time you've been waiting so far might be for nothing!
