That’s shocking. My credit card company transferred my surplus balance to my current account (a different bank altogether) the next working day! I suspect that they are dealing with just as many cruise & holiday refunds as your card provider. They must use the same book of excuses as P&O!

I agree it is not very good but I have accrued well over £100 cashback since last November so I'll live with it.

Just out of interest - I got my refund about three days ago, which was credited to my 'US Fast' credit card.

This refund put me several thousand pounds in credit so I rang my card company up and asked for it to be sent to my bank account, which they were happy to do BUT warned it could take 10/14 days to transfer. When asked why it took that long I was informed that it was due to all the cruise refunds they were handling!

I assume that we have the same type of card. I requested a transfer on the 7th May and it did not reach my bank account until 21st May. On a previous occasion a few months ago the transfer took about two weeks. I requested another transfer on the 18th May and it is still showing on my account today. On the previous occasions there were a few days between my card account showing a zero balance and the amount appearing in my current account.

  3. I received my first refund from a 50% - 50% FCC with two days of cancelling at the very start of this debacle. Then someone must have realised   "we can't go on like this - we had better see how much we have got in the piggy bank" hence the subsequent delays.

Someone asked this on FB and received the reply that 5pc deposits are a promotion, 15pc would appear to be the standard terms.

I honestly can't remember when I last paid 15% deposit  as the vast majority of my cruises have been booked on board with the £50pp deposit promotion. The 5% promotion seems to have been in place for ages. I know it is academic at the moment but I suppose the £50 promotion will also bite the dust.

I follow your logic, but guess that the average balance is many many times the deposit, so they must think that getting lots of the big final balances in earlier is better for them than just delaying paying out lots of piffling deposits?

Has anyone noticed that the deposit required is now 15%?

Same here. As an example that is in complete contrast to P&O, I have this morning cancelled a 5 night booking with Premier Inn for the end of June. The booking was an early saver (or whatever they call it) made last year and was non-refundable. As a result of the crisis, Premier Inn have now considered all bookings, including non-refundable ones, to be fully amendable or eligible for a full refund. Now that we have more detail on the gradual release from lockdown, we realise that a hotel stay at the end of June won’t be viable, so I cancelled this morning. Within 5 minutes I received a proper email cancellation form which also confirmed that the full payment (no fees) has been immediately refunded to my credit card. They are a massive company and have far more customers on a weekly basis than P&O, yet can amend their T’s and C’s in the customers favour (not theirs) and refund within minutes. Chalk and cheese when compared with P&O. Guess which company I would recommend to others and which I would urge caution with?

Ditto. Seven originally non refundable bookings with Premier Inn cancelled last Saturday. All refunds bar one on my credit card today.

Now it’s in the media (BBC South), I can share.

Up to 450 job cuts from 1600 employees across P&O and Cunard head office in Southampton. All those who remain to take pay cut.

Thoughts with all affected. The announcement yesterday was a sad day.

Obviously they won't be the only ones and I am not for one moment defending P & O's position regarding the refund situation and their customer service but it puts things in perspective in relation to their staff.

It feels to me, as one who has read but not really been involved in the thread, that it has run its course and could do with being abandoned now, with another one (or possibly two) to take its place.

But I don’t wish to become a SAM (self appointed moderator).  Just saying.

I’m finding myself unable to follow the conversation and if it’s coming to people being irritated, careless with words or hyper-sensitive, maybe time to draw a line and start again?

    Difficult times ☹️

You are probably right. I've done my daily excercise, the sun is shining and the garden beckons. Looking forward to the garden centre on Monday (or will it be Wednesday).......!

used to live in South Yorkshire. Don’t even remember putting that on my profile but I’ve spoken a few time’s about where I was from originally. Just thought you’d figured it out 😂

Perhaps profile was not the correct term. South Yorkshire shows under your avatar(?) on the left had column of a laptop screen. It might not show on a tablet or phone.

Out of curiosity why do you think I live near you? Would be interested in where you think I am

i always book direct with p&o. Not sure why just do it on their webpage

Sorry if you think I am being presumptious but your profile says that you live in South Yorkshire - so do I. I am not a stalker or suggesting that we are neighbours.....!

I've read it again.  I guess you mean the first one for June was refunded?  It's unclear from your post.

Told today by P&O that everyone booked through a TA will get a cheque and those booked direct back to bank account.

The staff are very pleasant but tell different stories but none seem to know our current position for refund and as it is a bank holiday and finance staff don't work weekends Monday is the earliest for another story.

They say they email finance so more potential for delay plus post and cheque clearing if it ever turns up.

It seems to depend on the relationship that the travel agent has with P & O. My well known travel agent passes the money direct to P & O so the agent does not appear on the transaction, therefore when the refund was made to me it came back the same way, ie. straight from P & O to my card. I think that Vampiress888 probably lives not a million miles from me and could have used the same agent.

That’s encouraging. Which cruise was that for?

It was for Aurora 23rd June which was cancelled on the 11th March after balance was paid but before it was due. Three FCC's and one deposit transfer were done at the same time to a new cruise but at the moment only the deposit transfer and one FCC have been applied. The other two have not been put on my account yet by P & O but my TA is on the case to apply them to the new booking when they eventually surface.

Our renewal for an annual policy is due - had a conversation with them on the phone yesterday.  We're unlikely to travel until our next cruise in May of next year, if then, but on balance decided to renew as the three cruises next year (one transferred from this year) were all booked prior to March18th when the policy re Covid changed.

They gave us the option of letting it lapse then renew later but the break in cover would put an end to the cover we currently have as per the T&Cs pre-March 18th.  Even if we don't go anywhere in the meantime, the payment date for two of the cruises will be due during this next year's period of cover, so for peace of mind, to retain the pre-Covid cover, we've renewed.

Don't know whether we've done the right thing, but we have age extension and declared medical conditions which will also be covered if we don't let the insurance lapse and will hold good for the cruises in 2021.  So we've played safe!

That is probably the best course of action. Existing customers on renewal will at least be able to get insurance, albeit at whatever cost but those who let it lapse might well find it much harder to get the cover they require due to a possible reduction of players in the market. Incidentally there was no mention with my company regarding cover for the over 70's. They obviously know my age and there was no mention of any reduction in cover in that respect. As far as I know the advice against over 70's travelling was not specifically FCO advice and the only reference to the FCO was in relation to travel to specific countries against their advice. If I am wrong I am sure someone will correct me.

  16. I have received a letter this morning from my travel insurer outlining the current changes to my policy which is an affiliated scheme now temporarily closed to new customers but continuing to be available on renewal. They will NOT cover cancellation due to covid-19 but WILL cover for lockdown or quarantine due to covid-19. They will NOT cover travel against FCO advice in relation to a destination. I am still not sure that I would travel but the insurance aspect is not as cut and dried as previously thought and may not necessarily be a non starter.

Actually, Staygulf is doing all those waiting for refunds a favour.

Seven days after a Winding Up Order is issued, as notice is placed in the London Gazette.  Everyone else owed money by Carnival can then "piggy back" onto that and to recover what Carnival owes them.

So eventually, when Ludlow sell his DB11 to settle his liabilities, every one will get their share of their pound of flesh.

Which will be a button from one Ludlow's numerous shirts.

Alternatively, the Court will simply adjourn as they have done so twice now regarding an HMRC Winding Up order against Southend football club.  Which is a shame re Southend United, as although I don't follow football, I doubt they have much impact on the game!

So basically you are saying come back down to earth!

  18. Just checked my credit card and there is a credit of £1972 showing from P & O which represents the full amount that I was expecting. To give everyone some idea I was in the premises of the well known travel agent within two hours of receiving the email outlining the changes in booking conditions on the 11th March therefore my cancellation must have been one of the first. Nobody has been more frustrated than me over this process but no amount of foot stamping and tantrums will make it happen any quicker. I know it is hard but be patient.

I am in the process of preparing my money claim on line as I intend to sue P and O and Carnival next Tuesday which will be 60 days after my claim. They had previously told me my claim had been escalated and should be 10 days, that was weeks ago.

If I get Judgment, assuming they don't pay me plus costs, I intend to proceed with a winding up order against Carnival.

Best of luck with that one. I presume you have factored in the speed at which at which the law proceeds. I think you will find that the wheels of justice roll slower that those of P & O. As for the threat of a winding up order Carnival will no doubt be quaking in their shoes. Legitimate as your claim may be the legal system will be snowed under with all the claims, insolvencies, etc. I doubt that yours would be prioratised.

When did you make your claim, and for which cruise?

It is all explained in my previous post #893 The cruise was R011 23rd June. Balance paid and cruise cancelled  on the 11th March before the balance due date on 25th March.
