I knew this would get out of hand.

In todays reality, almost all of us who had sex in the back of our Chevy van back in high school, could be convicted sex offenders in todays world. If you were 18 and he or she was under 18, you're a sex offender in todays world.

Absolutely agreed!!! I know some have done harsher of crimes and some who didn't deserve to have a title.  But the way this world is set up,  people get wrongfully charged and titled while the real criminals run around free.  Everyone has a story. Although my friend only has a few more years left to register, he was one who shouldn't have been charged, just in the wrong place in the wrong time with someone who would say anything to prevent from getting in trouble herself.  So she lied and had admitted to others that she lied to get out if a drug charge.  He married,  has had custody if his children since the charge,  and just wants to go on a couples cruise with his wife.

CBP runs checks on EVERYONE. It would make zero sense to allow a sex offender on a ship full of kids and solo cruisers. Sure some folks have gotten caught up with the whole 17/18 boyfriend girlfriend technicality but many states are allowing those folks off registries. While that is an unfortunate situation, I suspect that this would not be allowed since most sex offenders aren't allowed around children and even have to go to the grocery store after 10 pm or super early in the morning.I simply can't see this being permitted. The offenders parole officer would be the one to contact but I suspect, thankfully, the answer will be absolutely not!

Not sure where you get your information.  Not every offender is on parole,  or restricted to shop at different times.  Some offenders are not even offenders because if involvements with a minor and not all cruises allow children.  Learn the facts a little.

Shouldn't your "friend" first ask his reporting officer/court/legal overseer or re-read his conditions of sentence to refresh what guidelines he is under?  He may not be able to leave his home state or go international to begin with.

My friend doesn't have to report, just has to register as an offender and notify when they are traveling out of the county. They have no restrictions and is the of the lowest tier of offenders. Last thing we want if for them to book a cruise with others and then the cruise line cancels their ticket and not the the others.

Interesting subject matter for sure. Looks like there is no law preventing them from taking a cruise...A cursory google search turned up lots of info on it.

If you are personally concerned with a predator following you or a loved one, the local PD will probably not be much help. I would hire a private investigator.

Not so much concerned about predators, more looking for information for a friend who is an offender, but wants to take a cruise.

There is another thread on this topic here:

Also, found this article online (you may want to check with the individual cruise line to ascertain their rules):

    https://www.cruiselawnews.com/2017/11/articles/sexual-assault/do-cruise-lines-permit-registered-sexual-offenders-to-cruise/

I seen this thread and this article.. some responses are kind of dated. I am looking for answers from some who have actual experience. Things change over time.

  6. I know there is a lot of controversy on sex offenders going cruises and I don't really care for peoples opinions on the topic. I am looking for feedback from people who are registered sex offenders or knows someone who is a registered sex offender that has actually gone on a cruise as a Registered offender.

    If you have:

    • What cruise line did you use?
    • Where did you go?
    • Were there any restrictions?

    Thanks in advance.
