  1. I'm on the Breakaway Sept. 1st 2024, they cancelled the first stop which was RI and made it a sea day.  So far we're still on the schedule for Bar Harbor and they recently added shore excursions there but the way things keep changing (the city leaders don't want ships) it could end up a cruise to nowhere😉.  I just don't count on anything going as planned anymore as they seem to be changing things constantly after final payment (yeah, not happy)...

  2. Tipping is the same as the US.  As for credit cards, restaurants, major shopping stores, etc... all accept them but you'll more than likely incur at least a 3% fee. Have fun!!! Canada is beautiful!

  3. Mine never said it was going away so I just continued to use it.  Today everything seemed to update by itself without me doing anything and all items are functioning correctly thankfully! I was able to upload everything, fill out everything, etc for our 4/20 sailing...😀

  4. I'm originally from L.A. and the tour to the La Brea Tar Pits (if you're into that) is definitely good.  Not sure if NCL has that one as I only know that Princess does...everything (as stated above by others) is quite a distance from the pier so I'd look in to a ship excursion.  The beaches are a good option obviously 😄 and in Long Beach there's an aquarium near the beach. Santa Monica pier is a good time as well but you'll need either an excursion or transportation for everything...

  5. I don't actually know but an internet search indicated that the group "friends of Bill" that is seen somewhere here on cruise critic holds them so you might search for that thread....good luck! Hopefully that gives you an answer 🙂

If you examine the cruise contract that you are REQUIRED to sign in order to board the ship, every cruise line states that they can change the itinerary without compensating passengers. Having said that, frequently, cruise lines will indeed compensate passengers if they make major itinerary changes, but NOT if they have to skip a port or two because of weather, local uprisings (e.g., the one in Peru in December 2022), or other reasons.

And having spoken to NCL numerous times regarding this they are refusing to allow cancellation with compensation, refunds, or FCC's.  Basically they're taking your money and whether you go is up to you is pretty much what I was told.  Insurance doesn't cover acts of war but if you have it you can file a claim which will be denied but then they'll tell you to contact NCL for a FCC of 75%.  I haven't tried this yet as I'm waiting for the last minute (since it won't make a difference) but it "might" be an option to save SOME of your money if this continues to escalate...

  7. Completely agree with Mary!!  My situation was exactly the same as yours 20 years ago.  I was a travel agent, my husband never wanted to cruise but finally gave in.  I had no doubt Celebrity would make his experience amazing and he was already booking 2 more cruises for us before we ever got off the ship lol!!  You can't go wrong with that choice for a first 😄 Since then he's been happy with NCL as well but he agrees Celebrity made him a cruiser for life! I booked his first for the British Isles, he LOVED it...

  8. I'm not sure of the dates for Canada as I'm in the US so with our own children being back in school that week I thought they all were lol!!  I only found out the Canadian children were still out when I asked the staff why there were so many children running all over the place.  I had no idea.... I guess you could probably check the dates online for the holiday period this year though so you'd know ahead of time whether they'll be out this year or not...

In the US children can do distance learning with permission and quite a few are also home schooled which allows a lot more freedom for travel as long as they put in their "school time" on their laptops depending on their district and state of course.

  9. We sailed on her last year at the same time you're considering and there were probably more children than adults!  At least it seemed like it with the screaming at the elevators (playing games on the floor in front of them), some running down the halls kicking doors at 2 a.m. and later, and I could go on but won't.... 😄  The ship itself is "so-so" as the layout makes it feel crowded most of the time but not enough to dissuade us from taking another trip if that's the only ship with the itinerary we want BUT during a time when school is out.  That was the worst trip we've ever taken out of over 20 cruises!  HOWEVER, we love NCL, they have the best itineraries and other than that particular time of year have had no problems with dinner seating, service or otherwise....

  10. I just wish the cabin attendants could/would take the dining trays when they clean the room!  Ours was left there for 2 days when I finally caught up with him and asked him to take it.  He said when it's in your room they don't know if you're done with it so leave it outside the door....I've struggled to find a solution and finally came up with post it notes saying "please take this!".....it worked 😄
