  1. Hello! I am looking to take my first Ponant cruise, and would very much appreciate a referral! I think I can be messaged directly here. If not, please try doctorbob94 it's at y*hoo dot com. And thanks!

Once you're on the glacier you go on the sled with a larger group (from another helicopter) and I was paired with another single person for that part. Go for it!

I didn't realize this. Thanks for letting me know, and that the chopper ride didn't feel weird either. This puts my mind at ease. I hope you enjoyed your dogsledding!

I would honestly say, I would  prefer to share my excursions with solos or couples over a larger family ... as sometimes those groups tend to dominate the excursion conversation, but all are welcome in my opinion...

Thank you, I hadn't thought of that. Hopefully I'll be in a good group.

  4. I'm going on my first cruise, to Alaska, and doing it solo. The dog sledding (plus helicopter ride) looks amazing and is the only excursion I am thinking of. But I will be alone. I'm sure they form groups of people for the sledding itself, which is fine by me, but will it be uncomfortable? That is, will people be like, "wow, it would have been cool but there was some random old dude on our sled with us". Has anyone done this alone, or have any thoughts on it? Thanks.

It was quite a bit windy on our cruise but then we had "atmospheric rivers" and significant waves too so it's probably not a good representation of what it would normally be.  We actually have the same exact cabin reserved on the Regal Princess in February and will probably be in a better position to speak about the wind then.  But generally you will feel the wind more when you're heading into it, aft cabin balconies are definitely more protected.

Thank you for letting me know. It's my first cruise, so I really don't know what I'm in for but have always dreamed of seeing Glacier Bay and your experienced perspective is very much appreciated! That you want ahead and reserved a similar room in February says a lot about your thoughts about the room. I hope you enjoy your cruise!

Would be incredible if we had clear skies. It’s very dark here over the bridge as you might imagine. I would take this mini suite over every other cabin on this ship. Loving it - other than the weather.

I know this was a while back, but was the wind too much? I'm trying to decide between one of these mini-suites and an aft balcony, and I am hoping to spend a lot of time on the balcony watching the glaciers go by. Cheers

  7. I've never been on a cruise, but always wanted to cruise to Alaska. Not even really to see the ports, but more for scenic cruising on the balcony through Glacier Bay and past glaciers and through fjords. I just imagine it would be incredibly tranquil and beautiful. Now there are some good deals out there, including a Princess sailing that has all the scenic cruising I'm looking for. But I'm single, and always thought it would be best with a partner. But maybe that's not going to happen, and maybe if I ever do find myself again in a LTR (I'm 55) my partner won't be so much into it. So that's the question--would you go now, or wait for something that my not happen, but might be awesome if it did? I have traveled alone before, and enjoy the solitude, but definitely prefer having a romantic partner alongside. Thank you!
