Do you want to cruise from Australia or from a NZ port? Most mainstream cruise lines do a round trip from Australia to NZ and back - sailing from Sydney, Melbourne or possibly Brisbane. There may be a small number of one way cruises from Australia or NZ (Auckland).

My favourite destination is Fiordland for NZ, then Dunedin, Tauranga and Auckland. From Tauranga, you can visit the Hobbit movie set and film locations or visit Rotorua for the hot springs and Maori culture.

Fiordland - the ship usually sails into the sounds for the passengers to have a good view of the scenery. Depending on the cruise line, you may visit 4- 5 sounds including Milford Sound which is the best (I think). In Milford, the ship will sail up the sound almost to the end where the village is situated and turn around to sail out. If there is an overnight excursion from the ship, depending if the ship is sailing from or to NZ, the ship will stop while turning for the excursion passengers to either disembark or embark. A point to remember is that depending on the weather conditions, ships may not always make it into the sounds.

I would suggest you do some research on the NZ ports and what their attractions are. That way you will find which ports will suit you most and you can choose your cruise accordingly.

Do you have any more insight on the over nigth / multi-day excursion that drops you off at milford sound? I do not want to miss the sounds for sure, was thinking that this excursion would allow a better view of the sounds. Also, this excursion takes you to Queesntown to stay over night then to Dunedin, which all sounds amazing just do not want to be missing out on anything going on back at the ship. Wish I knew more about the travels to Dunedin and how much there is to do along the way.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Please calm my nerves. I'm not good at patience. I booked a Suite Grty for Adventure of the Seas departing May 20, 2017 out of San Juan. I booked this cabin about 6 weeks ago. In the past, grty' s have been assigned almost immediately. I'm concerned they overbooked this sailing. I've called, they say, be patient. Hmmmmmm.........

I also booked 2 cabins several months ago for my adult children and their girlfriend/boyfriend. Two 21 years olds, a 20 and a 19 year old. We are linked. Thoughts ??

On my last several cruises, I COULD NOT get a BBC. At least not the way it's suppose to be made. I have been told by every bar on two ships, and yes, I went to every bar hoping I might find one with the right stuff, that RCCL no longer carries the "Cream of Banana" stuff - The stuff in the small milk carton. A BBC is Cream of Coconut (Small milk carton of this stuff), Cream of Banana (Small milk carton of this stuff) and Baileys, blended all together in the blender. Best drink and totally my favorite. I've written it on every comment card and survey. They substitute something else now for the Cream of Banana and it does not taste the same or as good. I have been so disappointed. Can't find this stuff on land either. Anybody know a store I can go buy the Cream of Coconut and Cream of Banana ?? I would love to make these at home. I miss them. :(

  4. Shana ~ I REALLY want to be you when I grow up ! Sounds like heaven. I'm a flight attendant so I do get to see lots of cool places and have flight benefits on every major carrier, but seldom get the time to go enjoy those benefits. Maybe one day ;-). I'm single now. If I find a nice man, I'd like to work a little less and travel a little more. I'm 51 so I still have time. ;)

Question - What was your opinion of the Specialty restaurants ? I have been to Chops and Giovanni's but not any of the others. Would love to hear what you think. Thanks in advance.

I'm a little concerned that this ship might be "too big" but I'm willing to give it a try. I've sailed every other class of ship but the Oasis Class and the brand new ones. Freedom out of Port Canaveral is my favorite. Super easy port and does the Eastern/Western itinerary. It breaks my heart a little that you never get off. So many beautiful things to see and do but I guess you've done it all already. My number one dream is Moorea/Tahiti. Have you been that way ?

    Have a great day ! - E-Beth
