Have you used them before? I have a company that does this kind of testing, & the final paperwork didn't include Dr's name which was a supposed requirement for Carnival. I had scheduled an in person backup test & ended up using that one.

I have an appointment for Friday for my Sunday sailing on NCL Joy but have done extensive research and saw customers

from Carnival, RCL, and NCL all say they have successfully used them to board.

Has anyone sailed on the NCL Joy out of New York recently?  Any thoughts or  reviews of embarkation, entertainment,  shows, comedy, capacity, etc. would be greatly appreciated.   We sail July 10th on the Joy for our 29th anniversary.

I am also on the 10th 🙂 If you have Facebook, join the Norwegian Joy group - tons of reviews from the last few sailings. There is also a separate group specifically for our sailing.

Anyone got an idea how international cruisers can book a pre cruise test for NCL?

The diagnostics lab place on their website doesn't ship tests out to us in the UK.

We will be cruising from NYC on the Breakaway so anyone with knowledge with that area for testing would be great.

    Thank you

We are planning to use virtual OnPoint testing next week. They are $15 pp and you supply your own unopened test. You can use any brand of test as long as it is government approved - I am using BinaxNow.

That is why it is cheaper. If you have anything in your medical history that requires treatment while you are traveling, you will not be covered. The Essential Plan will pay for new illness or accident and perhaps emergency care.

Many people do not think they have a pre-existing condition because they do not realize the insurance company will scrutinize your medical history records for any reported symptoms, treatment, test, diagnosis, or even prescription change that contributed to the reason for your claim. If they find a related cause, your claim will be denied.

Oh for sure! I’m definitely planning to get the pre existing conditions one, just wanted to mention that they did offer an option now without having primary.

GeoBlue requires you to have primary health care. Most likely you’ll have to file with them first, then Geo Blue. You’ll be covered everywhere. It is just a matter of who pays first and who pays the excess.

I’m seeing two GeoBlue options: Voyager Choice and Voyager Essential. Essential says it does not require primary insurance and doesn’t cover preexisting but is otherwise the same. It’s also cheaper.

  6. Sailing on NCL Joy July 10 and looking into insurance. Considering a GeoBlue plan right now, which I know will cover me while I am in Bermuda, and I know my regular (Amerihealth) will cover me while In NY and VA ports, but what happens when actually on the cruise ship? I don’t see anything in fine print about that. Does my regular insurance kick in if it’s US waters and GeoBlue would kick in if international waters? I’ve seen other cruisecritic travelers post about getting GeoBlue so it must cover things - but want to make sure I’m getting it right before paying. Thanks!

We're in exactly the same position as you, have 2 free and want 4 more. Our plan is to wait until we board and head down to Guest Services first thing to order the 4UDP package, currently priced at $US145/pp, as we have $US400 in OBC to use up. AFAIK, if we buy the 4UDP package now, ahead of time, we would have to put it on our credit card and not be able to use our OBCs. Others on this forum have advised us to buy it on board on the first day. In your case, if you don't have any OBC to use up, you could order the package now, its shows up in your Account when you log on to your trip booking. Go to "Explore and Plan", then under "Dining" you should see the link to order any of the Specialty Dining add-on packages.

As to Food Republic, when I select that restaurant, a note says "Please Book Onboard"

We have a bit of onboard credit, but it’s nominal enough that I can surely find something else to use that on so I have my reservations secured.

I do see where it’s an option to add the 4 night package, I just wasn’t sure if there was a way to upgrade from our 2 night package to a 6 night package instead rather than purchase the 4. Doing it this way would save us $45 each, but wasn’t sure if it was possible.

  9. Hi! Our cruise includes 2 specialty dining meals per person (I believe) but we would like to have 6 instead. Does anyone know how we go about upgrading and if we will just pay the difference per person between 2 and 6 meals ($100) or if we have to buy a 4 night package for the other nights ($145).

Also, is Food Republic the only specialty open at lunch and can we make reservations for that? If not, is it super busy?

    Thanks!

there is a free connection to the wifi network so that all guests can use the norwegian app. anybody can connect to the wifi network onboard... if you have an internet plan, you can surf the web freely, within the limited constraints of the poor throughput they provide.

but there appears to be an IT loophole that allows certain web traffic to go through to apple devices, even if you're not on an internet plan; in particular, people report receiving app notifications from a variety of services and people (myself included) report being able to send and receive iMessages to and from apple devices.

beyond that, i can't explain it more fully, quite frankly.

This is super helpful! Thank you!

not to make anybody's brain explode, but my experience has been - on every NCL ship - that iMessaging will work from apple device to apple device, provided you're connected to the ships wifi network. you do not have to be using internet minutes! and you should be able to exchange messages with apple devices onboard as well as those not on the ship. (those on board would also have to be connected to the ship's wifi, of course.)

bear in mind, if sending photo texts, it could take a minute or two for the data to upload or download. send each image separately, or your message may not go through.

again, this is from apple device to apple device... does not apply to android.

    YMMV.

Can you elaborate on this? Wouldn’t connecting to the wifi network mean using the minutes though which are very minimal? Or is there a free limited wifi onboard or something?

  12. Hi! I know there are many Covid threads but I can’t seem to find the answer to this specific question. I’ve asked 5 different NCL agents and have literally gotten 5 different answers so wondering if anyone has actual experience:

There are 6 of us going on the Norwegian Bliss to Alaska in May 2022. We are not officially booked yet as the answer to this question determines how we want to book.

There are two couples as well as me and a friend who do not live together. I am aware that we need to test 48 hours prior. My question is if she tests positive and I do not, what happens? Am I still allowed to go and half the fare is refunded?

One agent said yes that is correct, one agent said I could not go, one agent said I could go but there was no refund, one kept directing me to the website, and one told me I had to call the number.

If one of us would not be able to go and get a half refund if the other tests positive then we would book two separate rooms but I would prefer not to do this as it will cost a ton more. But I also don’t want to miss out on traveling with my other friends if this one friend tests positive. Help, please?
