(this tour is a repeat of first week, but it has a little bit different stops due to Grand Prix in Monaco)

I’ll be on this one on May 24. I confirmed that Italy tours was skipping Monaco when I booked the tour because NCL did not offer any Monaco tours that weekend.

I am curious to know how the tender process goes when you have an external tour group. Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.

Also, NCL emailed that they would modify arrival/departure times for several stops for May 16. Did they modify your May 5 cruise, too?

Unfortunately, because I am a polite Canadian, I let an older couple I recognized from the cruise ship get into the aisle ahead of me. Big mistake. Big. Huge. 😂

    didn't. 🤷‍♀️

    • Stories like this make me glad I’m an obnoxious American. (Seriously, I’m happy it worked out for you. What else could you? Besides screaming like a lunatic or Ludacris.

but why does it seem every European tour has to include a church.

No joke, two hours ago, I received this email from NCL "The shore excursion description for MSN_30 / HIGHLIGHTS OF TAORMINA has been updated. Please note, the tour no longer pauses for photos at Cathedral of Messina." @cruiseny4life are you the most powerful influencer on Cruise Critic?🤔

  4. Something to keep in mind is the trains from Trieste to Venice can take two routes. (The long way and the short way.) Also, if you choose the freccirossa at 9:39 or the intercity at 13:27 (1:27 pm) you can pay for an assigned seat BUT you have to change trains in Mestre. If you choose the standard regional trains be sure to pick the two hour journey, not the 3 hour option. Also, I use italic rail to compare options, but I buy my tickets directly from trenitalia as it is a few bucks cheaper. IMG_0322.thumb.jpeg.4c81c741c152701900a4b5f725db3591.jpeg

  5. This is wonderful. I didn’t realize they could make so many things without chicken stock, if given advance notice. When is the best time to approach the maitre d assuming the restaurants open at 5:30 pm? Before opening at 3? 4? Also, I’m still on the fence about Moderno. Maybe they will let me have peek at the salad bar before committing to dining there. Thank you!

I do carry on only for all travel, including Alaska cruises.

Does the Jewel have a bag check or do you keep everything with you until the rooms are open? Please note that I am another person who was influenced to book the Jewel due to your reviews and your photos of crepes at Christmastime.

I’d also love to hear your strategies for vegetarians. I think you mentioned this in another thread.

  7. I was on the 15th floor forward  (after bidding five dollars over the minimum for a balcony) last summer on an itinerary where 2/3 are RT from BCN and the rest join/depart mid week near Rome. The ship was close to capacity per the cruise director. The only time I remember having an issue with elevators being repeatedly too full was during the departure mornings, otherwise, it was fine and I would not pick room based on that concern.

That being said, keep away from 3rd and Pine.

Hi, your recommendations are in line with my plan for our port stop in Seattle 9am to 6pm. Walk/rideshare to space needle/chihuly ( and MoPop depending on how much time spent at first two.) I had planned to take the monorail to the area near pike/pine then take the bus to Starbucks Roastery (or skip and go to Pike Place market in the opposite direction) walk to the Seattle Great Wheel (to see, not ride) and walk back to pier66 along the waterfront.)

Now I’m wondering if I should skip the monorail and take a ride share to a specific destination on Pike/Pine.
I appreciate your perspective. Thank you.

  9. On March 3, 2023, I booked a 8 day cruise on Jewel  for April 23 using that sweet, sweet 50% off AK promo, but I don’t see any latitudes codes on the upper right corner of my confirmation docs. I self booked through their website, and have FAS though I declined the drinks. My latitudes number appears in the body of the confirmation.

Do I need call and ask them to apply the promo? I think I met all the requirements Bird listed above. Thanks.

  10. I will be spending four days in BCN before/ after a Mediterranean cruise in three weeks. Are mosquitoes/ biting bugs something to worry about? (The bugs in my town have been bitey this summer and cortaid is my new friend.) Should I plan to buy some insect repellent when I arrive? Let me know what you think. Thank you.
