  1. Wondering if the OP was in an inside or oceanview cabin? NCL website says that coffeemakers are included in all balcony and above staterooms. I’m in an inside on an upcoming cruise and if I can simply ask for a machine it will save me the trouble of bringing my one-cup coffeemaker…

  2. I apologize in advance if this has already been answered, but the Search button doesn’t seem to be working in IOS.

My flights are booked through Choice Air, as it was the cheapest option at the time. My return flight on Dec 23 on Air Canada from San Juan to Montreal has been cancelled, as AC isn’t flying into SJU until at least February.

I never received notification of this from Choice Air, and only found out because my DIL was advised by her credit card company (flying with points) that the flight was cancelled. They rebooked her on United and all was confirmed within 48 hours.

Upon learning this, I contacted Choice Air immediately, and was told that a ‘special team’ was taking care of rebooking all cancelled flights and that I would hear back within 10 days. I’ve since called twice (post 10 days) and seem to be getting the run around with the same ‘special team’ answer. We sail on the 12th of Dec. I realize that the flight situation in SJU is complicated post-Maria, but am dismayed at the slowness in rebooking my flight and getting just a wee bit stressed...

Anyone else with a similar experience and hopefully a happy ending? ;)

  3. A few years ago on a Carnival cruise, my luggage wasn't delivered and I had to go get it from security. I was baffled, but the security person opened my luggage, removed a 375 ml bottle of Listerine and asked me to open it and explain what it was. I told him it was mouthwash and asked him if he wanted to smell it. That convinced him that it wasn't crème de menthe...I had topped up the small bottle at home at packed it in my suitcase because it was more than the 100 ml allowed on a plane...besides I hate crème de menthe...😜

I think I'll have to bring a sealed bottle with the new rules now, though...

  4. We're also on the 11/24 Southern Caribbean and diving in GT, Bonaire, Curaçao & Aruba. We've done this itinerary before and loved our dives so back for more!

Last time, in DR we did the zip line tour through HAL and thoroughly enjoyed it. Safe, beautiful scenery and a decent amount of thrills. This time we're staying on the boat, as no other excursion really appeals.

Diving again with the HAL excursion in GT because of the time constraints (we were among the last back on the ship), but have made private arrangements everywhere else.

  5. the answer

John Heald Guests who need wheelchair assistance will be made comfortable in the wheelchair and have a Carnival staff member with them. Once our Diamond and Platinum and FTTF guests have embarked those who need wheelchair assistance will be assisted on board before the rest of the guests so they do so comfortably and with no stress. It has been this way for some time.

This is the best answer, and I appreciate that it was posted. It clarifies things for me. This is a sensitive & emotional issue, and please bear in mind that my original post was prompted by concern for the comfort of a family member going through a rough time and who is looking forward to some cheering up on this cruise. Although I respect everyone's opinions on the topic, it's time to wrap this up. Come what may, we'll have a great time.

    Happy cruising everyone!

  6. If you are well enough to travel out of the country on a cruise, then you are well enough to SIT in a wheelchair until your group is called.

    End.of.story.

Otherwise, I'm gonna claim a "unseen" illness... get a wheelchair to haul my butt up the gangway first, get lots of other "privliages".. and have a great cruise!

Yes, sick is sick. But if you have doctor's approval to travel, then you make accomodations for your travel. Period.

I agree that "priority" boarding can be abused, and from what I've read on CC, it's not just in the case of passengers in wheelchairs. So I understand your point.

The cruise has been booked for several months and her condition has changed in the last 10 days or so. My DIL tried to reschedule the biopsy until after the cruise, but the doc said no, although he okayed the vacation. Unfortunately the last time this procedure was done, it was botched and she was in pain for a month. She's on extra meds right now, so needs a little TLC. Just trying to make her life a little easier!

  7. So I called customer service myself, and they indeed confirmed that although a wheelchair is provided, the disabled passenger has to wait in line like everyone else.

I was put on hold while the Carnival employee spoke to someone in the Guest Services. They have my DIL's medical information on file, and said that due to her various conditions, likely they can do something. I have to contact Special Needs tomorrow morning and arrange things then.

I wouldn't have an issue with purchasing FTTF, but it's sold out. I just don't want her waiting around for a couple of hours if it can be avoided.

  8. Cruising soon with our son and his wife. This year, she has lost her sight (completely blind), has developed chronic myelogenous leukemia and is having a bone marrow biopsy (in her hip) done the day before we cruise. Not a good year, so we're going to create some good memories on this vacation.

She called customer service, and they told her that they will have a wheelchair ready for her at the terminal. However, because of the new FTTF program, they are no longer providing priority access onto the ship for those requiring wheelchair assistance. Anyone heard of this new policy?

  9. I love French Onion soup and make it frequently. This version was reddish and very sweet. I asked if it was made with red wine (my homemade version is made with a cup of white, others are made with beer) but was told it was made with red onions. Not too sure about that...

Not revolting, just not what I expected and somewhat off-putting. I will never order this again!
