BTW- this WiFi ROCKS!! NCL totally LOSES on that! Princess - 10 out of 10! NCL - 1 out of 10!

Really?  We were on the Bliss In November.and the wi fi was absolutely amazing. Maybe it depends on the NCL ship, and it has been updated?

I am Platinum (highest tier and then broken down more) on NCL and have sailed on the Star twice. With the exception of my trip on the Getaway I have always been in a suite and comparing the treatment of suite passengers on NCL to Princess and Celebrity, NCL hands down does it best. Now the last time I was on Princess in a suite was years ago so things may have changed.

As to wifi - NCL is kind of lagging behind all the other cruiselines. In 2014, when I spoke with Kevin Sheehan on my Getaway trip his goal was to have wifi improved by 2017. Then NCL got rid of him and brought in Frank Del Rio. My view of his whole goal has been to increase investor revenue and little is being done to improve customer's experience. He totally missed the mark with the NCL Joy and the Asian market and the Joy is now sailing the Western Hemisphere trips.

See you in a few days!

  3. You need to go to Deck 6 The Social midship.  We did the November 3 sailing and got on very early and they were all sold out.  They handle all the reservations here.  Laser tag and the go karts to the left, show reservations right when you come in the door, when we were onboard we went to Teppanyaki to reserve and change our dining reservations which is directly across from The Social.  Don’t miss Prohibition it was the best show and well worth the charge.  We found the comedy shows quite good too.  As soon as we got onboard we hurried to the Social and glad we did because by the time we had finished the lineup was quite long.

How did you like the Local's menu?  We usually eat several lunches in O'Sheehan's so wondering how the different menu at Local will be.

We did the November Panama Canal cruise and ate in the Local and the specialty dining.  I had prime rib in CAGNEY’S and have to say the prime rib which we had twice in the Local was far better.  We did the local for breakfast a few times until we found the Observation Lounge.  We usually skipped lunch but if we had lunch we always went to the Local.

  5. I heard that they have removed the loungers on the observation lounge and replaced them with comfy chairs and curved sofas making it difficult for people to sleep and drool all over them. Is that true?

If so, I am glad they did.

My daughter is on the Bliss now and sent me a picture of them on the lounges. I did notice that they had what looked to be towels at the foot of the lounge chairs.

  6. We have sailed on NCL, Princess, Holland, Carnival and Royal Caribbean and found that each cruise line will have something different that we like. A couple of years ago we cruised on Holland and the food was to die for the next year, same ship, same itinerary the food wasn’t so good. We enjoy Princess and have had great times on them as well. If you could take a few good points away from each cruise line you would have a great cruise. They all have something that makes them unique. For sure you will find the passengers on Holland older and I am almost 60. We enjoy NCL and tend to go to the Specialty dining which compared to the other lines doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. Sure people can go on a cruise and find something that wasn’t quite right, but at the end of the day I am not cooking or making the bed!

  7. Downy does get wrinkles out but clothes need to be pressed to get a nice crease. They run a special the first night or so and you can send items out for press only for half price.

I totally agree, we always take advantage of the half price pressing on the first day. You can’t beat spending $2.00 a shirt and enjoying the cruise.

  8. By this time next year all the Oceania ships will have been through dry dock and will be losing those plastic shower curtains. They will be replacing them with glass doors. Another thing to remember is the average age on Oceania is 65.

  9. 30 plus cruises and have never gotten sick after or while on a cruise. I always make sure I wash my hands constantly and don’t touch the door handles with my bare hands. When we get onboard I take my sanitizing wipes to door handles, remote, phone, light switches etc. I guess it has saved us from getting sick.

  11. Hello fellow CCer's.

Laser tag just went up from $5 to $9.95 on NCL site.

By the time we cruise in December it may be $20pp for laser/karts.

    Can't wait.

The price went up a while ago. I believe it changed just after the transatlantic cruise might have changed on the Panama cruise but it was well before the start of the Alaska cruises.

  12. We always sail in October and haven’t had a problem. We are going on the Dawn in 2019 out of New York. We are going on the Bliss in November this year through the Panama so I can’t comment on that ship. We have been on the Dawn before and there was an amazing singing duo on board that played most night in the atrium that made the cruise amazing. We are crossing our fingers that Jose and Patti will be on the Dawn next year when we sail.

  13. My issue is that these are the only real "activities" aside from the pool (at least that I've seen). If there were other things to do, like mini golf, a ropes course, climbing wall, etc. than have a couple things for an upcharge wouldn't be a big deal. But, on an AK cruise, having an open air pool isn't necessarily going to be usable. Perhaps there are other activities on the ship and I just haven't seen them yet? I'd also say that with 3 kids, a 7 day cruise, $20 per day per kid is a LOT of money for something that should feel mostly all inclusive.

There should be enough activities for your kids to do without even paying for the go karts or laser tag. If it was me I would tell them up front you can go once and that’s it, there is no way they need to go daily, but if you would like to pay for it than you now know the cost. If kids can’t find things that are included in the cruise cost to entertain them than that is unfortunate, I think that NCL has a very good kids/teen program to keep them entertained.

  14. We went on the Dawn a couple of years ago. The Mexican restaurant is a must very good but make sure you go hungry there is a lot of food. We also enjoyed Cagney’s and Teppanyaki as well as Le Bistro. We would always go to Gatsby’s Champagne Bar before dinner for a drink and got to know the staff there who were amazing. On our cruise we were fortunate to have Jose and Patti onboard entertaining us in the atrium, maybe you will be as lucky too they were amazing.
