AS you can see, not all HC are shower only, but many are due to wheelchair and other mobility needs.

I do have photos of Westerdam's 6108 that does show a bathtub also here: http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Westerdam/index.html

Specifically this photo shows both the roll in shower with the tub and commode: http://joanjett2000.topcities.com/HAL/Westerdam/6108_Essiesmom-6.jpg

The shower is behind the curtain on the right and has a pull down seat.

The standard bath tubs on HAL ships are approximately 18 inches high from the floor and difficult for many people, both handicapped and able bodied alike to get into.

I have no idea why HAL lists SY 6108 as a shower only. But as you can see, on at least the Westerdam it is incorrect.

    Hope this helps

    Joanie

I will be able to fill you in in Nov. after we return from our TA that's leaving in a week. Will send photos of the Cabin, Bath and balcony (we had our Travel agent quote us the size of the cabin as 355sq' Balcony 214 Sq' that angled balcony was what I wanted...we have 3 of us going to be in there for 16 days! :D

  2. We visited Cartagena while on a TA cruise last December - and it was a lovely surprise for us too.

As mentioned here - very easy to access. Just step off the ship and there you are. The dug out Roman Theater is a delight!

A picture is supposed to be better than many words.. so here is a link to our set of photos from there.. Just click on "slideshow" (upper right, and F11 if you want to see in full screen mode)

    Miriam

You know that the city itself is VERY similar to Cartagena Columbias' walled city

  3. Our first ship was Celebrity's Meridian...their first ship...a really old Grand Dame we fell in love with cruising on her...and still look for the older style decor (The Avant Gard looks of the new Celebrity ships leave me cold!..!) the "R" ships have suited us since we first went on R 2, then again on the R4. Oceania kept that nice decor. Since we've been on the Azamara version...(very strange changes to the Decor I hated! Celebrity has awful artwork as far as I'm concerned!)

  4. I was really glad to find this thread...to your website. In Dec. We reserved a "revised accessible" for a cruise in Aug. on the Maasdam...at least I thought we had. Due to inaccurate info by the reservation person (from Hal themselves, not travel agent) upon looking into certain conflicting info on our invoice...we found she not only put us down for Gty only. I told her specifically I needed a shower only room. When I called...no rooms like that were available, said I'd have to move up to a balcony, and on this cruise that was almost double!!. I almost cancelled our reservation. After checking trying to get any other cruise like this one, it was obvious this was the best itinerary by far. So I called again...after MUCH time on hold with many apologies from the lady....they offered us this HC room (I've been using HC rooms on Celebrity they have 26 per Millennium class ship! I have walking difficulties and can not get into a tub, and need the other bath facilities I E the raised toilet & bars etc. I badly need my cane to walk onboard but do not as yet use a wheelchair) As HAL has so few HC rooms I hesitated to ask for one but was dreading facing a bath without these. The last cruise without left me in agony. This is an 18 day cruise!

The results were that they offered the HC room C390...NOT at a reduced rate (+500$pp) but with the promise of two coupon books supposedly worth 700$ each "For all our trouble..." these books are for ..to quote "Free drinks, soda & water--free dinners at the specialty rest. etc. etc." So finding the photos of C390 HC room was great...as one person thought it was wonderful, the other thought it was bad. The photos are showing a very nice cabin I feel. (Whether the noise problem from the Kitchen above appears remains to be ...heard..I guess)

Lastly has anyone received these coupon books...are they really usable GOOD coupons.. (So many from the diff. cruise lines have useless coupons..."buy one get one 1/2price" type of thing) and do you think I should request a voucher stating we are to receive these?? (Can you tell I have been stung on OBC and other "free discounts" offered by Cruise line reservation clerks that don't seem to appear on the ships books????)

  5. Kathleen and the Saints will be playing in Infinity's Rendezvous Lounge until the end of their contract in October. If you like to listen or dance to a talented group, this is one group you should not miss. They have played on Century in Europe and Millennium in Australia.

Guess music is...like food...a subjective...we heard them on the Mille in Austrailia...and couldn't STAND them, her especially. Dancing isn't my thing, the singing is what I listen for and she was awful. Wasn't just me, I'm hypercritical, my DH isn't...very easy going and he'd rush us thru before & after dinner so he'd not have to listen to them!

  6. Great cruise on the Horizon, must be about 20 odd years ago

    Dem were the daze.

Just got back on the Connie.

Still great time. Never had a bad time on X.

Took a last minute Sovereign of The Seas a few years back

Did not really like it. Thought that I was caught in a K-mart

Blue lite special . Staff was constantly trying to sell me something

that I "needed right this minute".

Not worth the pressure , just to get to watch an ice show at sea.

We were on the Meridian in 1993 I believe, and Horizon was just being built...so it couldn't be 20 yrs ago!!

  7. Great to hear you enjoyed yourself, although Wellington is my home town. On a good day Wellington is hard to beat, but it is very susceptible to weather. While I am not a great fan of Wellington as a tourist destination, I wouldn't live anywhere else in New Zealand.

Having travelled through most of New Zealand I find it a bit sad sometimes that many New Zealanders don't know what a great country we have.

It was exotically beautiful actually...very different from our green farmland in the Midwest of the US.~ Napier's Art Deco, and Wine country,~ We did really love the Te Papa museum,in Wellington. Maori carving was marvelous . It really was a grey day, and windy, and as I have difficulty walking and use a cane...it wasn't a city I'd like to do much hiking in with all hills! Did the Black Cat boatride in Akaroa from Christchurch, Dunedin was very interesting, many things to see...& Out to the Otago Penn. Even here in the US the people don't travel to our own attractions, spend vacation after vacation at some Carib. Spa, or cruise, or Disneyland...and never seen Yellowstone or the Grand Canyon. They don't know what they're missing...

  8. Day 1 - arrive in Vancouver from New Zealand. Will probably walk around the city for the day and just look around

Day 2 - Set sail from Vancouver. Will be going to get some camera equipment to rent beforehand. Looking at Leos Cameras at the moment

    Day 3 - Sailing

Day 4 - Ketchikan - I wanted to get on the Coastal Wildlife Cruise but missed out so I am waitlisted there. If I miss out on those 2 sailings I will just walk around town I think.

Day 5 - Juneau - Will probably go up the Mt Roberts tram in the morning. Photo Safari in the afternoon/evening

Day 6 - Skagway - renting a car to do the South Klondike Highway (using Murray's Guide)

    Day 7 - Glacier Bay

    Day 8 - College Fjord

Day 9 - Arrive in Whittier and I have no ideas......

We just spent January cruising around Your homeland and from Auckland to Dunedin Love every place we went (Wellington was Grey and kind of blah) especially Akaroa, Napier,Hawksbay area,(missed Rotarua because of being Quarantined on ship 2 days) but let me tell you..after Milford sound...didn't waste Our time heading for Misty Fjords! Spectacular

  9. My DH & DS and I will be on Millennium 6/19/09. She should be almost brand spankin' new after a drydock for softgoods replacement, revamping the buffet area to match Solstice's islands system (new flatscreen TV's etc) Southbound from Seward

For us ~ 67,70,& 78, (some slightly disabled) this is an ambitious trip. DS at 78 is really raring to go, will be her 2nd cruise, and only time to Alaska so wished it to be a good one.

  10. Our first cruise was on the Meridian also...Eastern Caribbean 11 days...from San Juan to Miami '92 or 3, now was Celebrity. Hit almost a port a day, what would now be called an Exotic trip I think...Grenade from the first. By the end of that cruise...we loved the ship, tho she was a Grande Old Lady already. But we still judge ships by her style, and most fall short. The Renn. ships came closest. She wasn't as large as the newer ships. But that glorious chapel and the 2 story movie theater, the real teakwood decks, etc. (The new stuff I don't think is really teak) Service was really classy. Had an inside, all we could afford but it was large...up front on the top deck by the suites...with a door you could walk out of the Hall onto a small forward deck.. She was an eye opener for us. We'd seen the tiny cabins on LOVE BOAT and this was so different!:D

  11. We will be returning to the Mille. in June after a trip in Jan. Looks like perhaps ALL the staff is different...that's OK didn't like the CD or the Ass. CD. kinda smarmy (but then that's kind of what CD's do isn't it?? Best Cd we ever had was on Oceania, very intelligent, former Broadway entertainer, and fun without being...well smarmy) Does this mean all the attendants, waiters etc are likely to have changed also? (Wouldn't mind new chefs:rolleyes:)

  12. ML~ Wolfshadow is right!!! The Cat 2B 7176 on Summit is the cabin and balcony. Balcony is large enough for lounge chairs.

The only problem here is that people have been reporting that loungers are not allowed on any of the larger balconies on the side of the ship, except Suites any more...not the Sweet 16's nor the Angled balconies. Something about insurance:confused: Been reported here several places.

  13. Hi,

Does anyone have a photo of cabin #6146 on the Millenium? We are planning a trip next April and this is the only SS catagory that was available. Should we have any concerns?

    Thanks,

Summit and Millennium are exactly the same??? Guess they have color differences but layout is the same on all deckplans

  14. Thanks for the picture. Does anyone have a picture of the 2Cs on deck 7 (7177/7175)?

    ML

There are NONE all of deck 7 is 2b cabins other than those listed at a higher class (CC or Fv) I think you've been given this connection before in this thread but here it is again :http://www.geocities.com/mahdnc/Cabinpix.html Look down all the Millennium class ships...check out the different cabins and balconies...all the ships are the same deck layout (Millennium, Summit, Infinity & Constellation) There are several photos of all the different classes of cabins! Some people did post photos of these but can't seem to get them on searc. Both are slightly larger balconies (try to "google" for then it's surprising what turns up online!)

  15. The "sweet 16" on the M class ships have larger balconies, but the room is smaller, about 170 square feet. The CC rooms at the stern and 6135, 6136, 6143 and 6144, have the larger balconies; and, they are about 20-25 square feet larger in the room than the sweet 16.

Don't forget the aft cabins are all CC! HAve similar rooms, but those large balconies.

Driker: consider the handicapped cabins for your SO , you don't have to be in a wheelchair to be handicapped, those baths are a huge problem to us w/cane and balance problems, no safety bars for showers and hand pulls for toilets either. Roll in baths & showers are in the Handicapped rooms...

  16. Hi there

I think he is on the Quest, check the thread with the Panama canal info with pics.

I just followed another thread to photos of Constellation, and they had a photo of John Howell as their CD but was old photo, and I Do believe I saw him aboard Quest "observing" Becky Fields, in anticipation of coming aboard himself in future (This was in Dec.) Just read that review and it does state john howell is the Quest CD
