Can anyone confirm what the theme deck party is on the Carnival Sunshine 4 night to Half Moon Cay? I thought they would have an 80s rock and glow theme but I have not heard anyone recently who has been on the ship to confirm this.

    thank you!

They still have the 80s rock and glow theme but not sure which night.

I checked in for my cruise on the Panorama next month and I still don't have a cabin number.  My documents say TBA (DECK).  What does that mean?

    Hello,

We were to sail on Anthem out of NJ on January 2nd, 2023 on an 11 night cruise. Unfortunately, I made a mistake on my work schedule, and I just realized that I need to be back by January 10'th. My mistake. We are aware of the cancellation penalties for cancelling within 90 days but I'm wondering if it would help if we have another cruise selected that we can transfer to? I'm not looking for special treatment but if there is a better option then paying the penalty I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Thanks

So, the UK MAIB participated in the cover up?  As well as the Bermuda Maritime Administration, the USCG, and the US NTSB? What is their motivation.  The seat of the fire was found to be the balcony, not something within the ship.  The fire got out of hand because there was no fire detectors on the balcony, and the fire teams were unable to proceed from one balcony to the next, since the dividers did not open, they had to chop their way through.  However, the dividers did catch fire readily, and spread the fire from one cabin to the next.  The fire got out of hand because while smoke was smelled in the area at 0230 hours, it was not until 0309 that a passenger activated a manual fire alarm point, nearly 20 minutes later.  Given that a fire can double in size every 30 seconds, that 20 minute delay was critical.  It was not until 0326, nearly an hour after smoke was smelled, that the first fire teams entered the fire zone.  Once teams had responded, the fire was quickly extinguished, at 0436.

As quoted by you: No definitive cause was ever found. End of story.

I realize that there is no proof beyond a reasonable doubt that a cigarette carelessly discarded started the fire on the Star Princess, but has there been any other credible theory as to how it started?

My true belief is that the cigarette did not catch the ship on fire. They used that reason as a cover

up from a fire that began within the ship. Is what had to begin as a minor fire if a cigarette was the cause how did it get so out of hand?

Sorry, can't support this conspiracy.  The extent of the fire was caused by several design and material failures, but it did start on the balcony, but how is another question.  Flicked cigarettes have caused major structural fires and wildfires over many years.

I agree on the material used on the balcony chairs could burn easily. The fire went large without

being put out from what would begin as a minor fire. Home structural fires happen all of the time mainly from dropping a lit cigarette falling a sleep.

Sorry, That was never proven. But people believe what they want. The courts say different.

The ship was burnt far too much if it was as they say caused by a flicked cigarette.

It was just an excuse that the cruise line used to hide that it was a fault caused within

    the ship it's self.

When I started reading your story, I thought we must have been on the same cruise!  On our last cruise, we had almost the same situation except we stayed down the hall from and not next door to the repeat offender. Even the part about security officers outside the offender's stateroom on the last night sounds familiar.  The morning we got off the ship,  we stopped at the Walmart in the port city. On the way out, we ran into a crew member we got to know from the ship and he confirmed that  "it happens on almost every sailing".

FYI: You don't have to pay the fine to leave the ship. You'll have to sign a promissory that you agree to pay.

DH and I are starting to think about cruising again.  Our last cruise was in May of 2019.   Although we did travel by air to London and Paris over the summer, we have not considered a cruise because of all things related to Covid - illness, quarantine, service issues, etc.  From reading recent trip reports, it appears that some of these issues are improving.

We did come back from Europe with a nasty case of Covid, so know that it is easily picked up.  Even so, we would like to get back on a ship perhaps before the year is up. Or maybe in January or February.   The problem is that our passports expire in March of 2023.  We need to get them renewed and not sure how long it will take to get them back, so thinking we would send off for new passports, but book a cruise where one is not needed.  We have not kept up with cruise regulations of traveling without a passport.  Can it still be done with a DL and birth certificate?  If so, where would we be allowed to go?

For U.S. Sailings only, U.S. Citizens may cruise using an official Birth Certificate and a supporting Government Issued Photo ID, like a driver’s license or an identity card. However, we highly recommend that all U.S. Citizen’s cruise with their U.S. Passport book that is valid at least 6 months.

I honestly can't remember if there is a way to use OBC on purchased before boarding. I have $100 of OBC from my Shareholder's Benefit and I want to possibly book some excursions with it. Do I have to wait until I am onboard or can I call in to use it? Does not appear to let me use it booking through the website. I have gotten spoiled by Celebrity I guess. There I can just spend OBC when booking things in advance through their Cruise Planner website.

OBC must be used while aboard.

The little guy’s guaranteed salary is protected by international convention, they are being well taken care of.

Well taken care of? You need to research from actual cruise ship employee's opinions on that topic.

Um, yes I would.  I am paying A LOT for this service in the cruise fare; it's an integral part of the cruise.  I most certainly want to penalize for bad (I'm talking lousy attitude kind of bad) service.  Just as I would reward good service.  That's what tipping is all about.  No participating trophies, you have to earn your gratuity, not just show up and expect it.

I recently saw a "now hiring" sign at a local eatery advertising $13/hour and tips for waiters/waitresses...horse hockey!  If you're making $13/hr in the food service industry you shouldn't expect or receive tips.  When I served tables, my hourly wage was reduced because it was expected that I would make up for it with tips, which I did.  And don't even get me started on counter service folks asking for tips!

If the cruise lines wouldn't nickle and dime paying their employees  tips wouldn't be needed unless you decided to. Blame them not the OP.

So you would want to penalize all the good hard working people that work on the ship for one bad persons service.
    don’t be that guy.
