  1. We're new to Carnival too! Have been loyal to Royal for years with 30+ cruises. Hear the only thing we get as suite guests is priority boarding & 2 bottles of water in our suite. Guess we will find out when we board in September.

  2. We drove from NY to Baltimore in December 2015 to cruise on the Grandeur .It was a fantastic trip.

We loved it so much that we booked the same cabin for a November 2016 cruise .We had the absolutely best Cabin Steward and hopefully we will have him again.

We also had the best CD ever ,the honorable Paul Rudder.

Good Morning & Happy 4th of July Weekend!

I will be traveling July 16th from Long Island to Baltimore with 2 adults (myself & my daughter), 3 teenagers & 2 toddlers (who have to travel in car seats). Just wondering how long it took you to get from Long Island to Baltimore. What time did you leave Long Island? We have always left from Bayonne so this is a new experience for us. How much did it cost to park at the pier? Thanks for any info you can offer us.

  4. You are right the MDR was not broken.I hope they sent all the quantum class ships to China. And replace them with a Voyager or Freedom class ship. But without quantum prices.:)

Amen to that! Give Bayonne back a Voyager class or leave the Freedom class we are getting for a short time! And your right Quantum & Anthem prices are out of control!

  5. I don't take things that people say about things that did not please them on a ship as a complaint unless it's obviously written that way. It's good to be aware of what people liked and didn't like about these ships and cruises. My wife and I have 10 cruises under our belt and we've only been cruising for the past 11 years.

We were aboard the Quantum of the Seas for it's Maiden Voyage the week of November 2nd. I would not have flown to Europe just to cruise home so our group planned a week divided between Paris and London pre-cruise.

I liked the way things have been aboard all the other ships that we have sailed - the large dining room with pre-set dining times, being able to just walk into the show rooms early and take a seat, etc. The Quantum did away with all of that and I did not know what it was going to be like until after the cruise. I did not like the new dining arrangements with changing dining rooms each night. I had enjoyed getting to know the serving staff and having the same ones each night. It was nice being able to pop into the main dining room for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you wanted to do that. This kind of dining does not exist on a ship with the new dining plan. Reservations have to be made for one of the restaurants each night and you have to make reservations for all the shows. I'm glad that I had a travel agent make all those reservations for me and I didn't have to deal with it. For months, on FaceBook, I kept reading about all the trouble people were having working all these reservations out for one reason or another. And then through some glitch, the reservations made would be lost and they would have to start all over. I can't imagine trying to work out all those reservations on a day that the ship is also in port. There were no ports on the maiden voyage and there were some problems for people.

Regardless of what you might think - this is NOT a complaint. I'm simply pointing out that things did happen and you do take it with a grain of salt.

It was also stated during the week that these changes were for the people that cruised a lot as RC was trying to make things new and interesting for the "full time" cruisers or those that cruise a lot. It was stated that those that cruise a lot were getting bored with the same way things had been done for years. I suppose that the thought is to be more attractive to the younger cruisers that are not so much into the formal dressing ideas.

I'm going to try to avoid sailing on a ship that has Dynamic Dining with all the dining reservations and show reservations. I also realize that when a big show such as Mamma Mia is performed on a ship - that was the show on Quantum - that some kind of reservations would be necessary for that.

It's been interesting to watch people get "attacked" that have pointed out anything that happened aboard the Maiden Voyage of Quantum that was considered not the best in their opinion. What I have said did not keep this cruise from being an amazing experience. It was. I now know that these new cruising idea are not to my liking and not to book a ship that operates that way.

Now - Having said that - I want to cruise aboard Freedom of the Seas and it operated just like I would like for a cruise to operate. I have heard that Freedom goes in to be reworked in January and this Dynamic Dining may or may not be implemented aboard Freedom. I hope not. My TA has told me that she will take care of all the reservations but that really doesn't make it the same as what I like. Oh well!!! :)

Very well said! We were on the 3 night sampler and feel the same way. The ship is absolutely beautiful. However, we prefer the MDR to changing dining venues every night. And all the reservations, some that didn't work, are very frustrating. We prefer to cruise on a traditional cruise ship, MDR, sexy leg contest, interaction with the crew, etc. So we decided to cancel our April 12, 2015 on Quantum and get on Liberty in May. I'm sure once the kinks are worked out Quantum will be amazing, but she's just not for us. Happy cruising everyone no matter what ship you are on, a day at sea is better then a day at work :D

  7. My entire family cruised in 1394, 1392, 1390, 1388 & 1690 this past August for my granddaughter Sweet 16 to Bermuda. Jr Suite 1394 is amazing in size and has a huge balcony. This was the second time we sailed in 1394 & I would say definitely go for it! It's well worth the extra money.

However, the grandchildren loved 1388 with the pole - lol! Its a really nice size D1w/balcony and you won't have to spend the extra for a Jr. Suite. The only thing is the balcony is on the corner and is a little smaller. Which ever cabin you chose you are going to have a wonderful time on Explorer she is an amazing ship with a wonderful crew!

  9. Over the last nine years we have sailed on Explorer 12 or so times and can't believe she is really going to be leaving Bayonne. She had become our home away from home! Wish Royal had dry docked her before she left Bayonne so we could have seen the new & improved Explorer or at least brought her back after the dry dock so we could enjoy the improvements! Explorer and crew we are so sad to see you go! We had so many wonderful times sailing with you and you will be truly missed.

  10. I wouldn't expect this to be true as both the Sea Pass and wrist band are your charge account onboard - both should be treated "like cash", as they say. They would not be just left for you somewhere.

    .

I was just informed by a Royal CSR that the main person on the booking will have their Sea Pass on the outside of the door upon arrival and all the other guests will find their Sea Passes in the cabin . What if someone, thinking their being cute, decides to take your Sea Pass off your door! Not sure I'm liking this new form of boarding! :( Also, make sure that everyone traveling with you has a Set Sail document. I was told that everyone now needs to have one in order to board. ;) Its going to be very interesting to say the least...

  11. Look out for "washy washy" if she is still on board. A fantastic lady(crew member) who performs during MTD hours and I think in the regular part of MDR. Had her on our April cruise.

My entire family just got off Explorer all 23 of us. And Kenger Browne was one of the highlites for my grandchildren. She sang her "washy washy" every morning & my littles ones always wanted to eat in the Windjammer so they could see her. Maurcy, also in the Windjammer balances trays on his head & was a hit with the little ones as well. Kenger even took time to come to my granddaughters table to celebrate her Sweet 16 with her in the main dining room. She is truly an asset to Royal. Enjoy your cruise! You are going to love Explorer she is a beautiful ship with an awesome crew.

Ditto that! Just got off Explorer yesterday for the last time after 14 sailings on her & I feel like I'm losing a great friend. She has a fabulous crew that really works hard to give you a memorable vacation.

  13. Wow your grand kids are lucky. Stop complaining and remember the time spent with them they will remember it for ever did the food stink yes was it corny yes but the kids love it.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

Not complaining just stating a fact! What was offered wasn't editable & to have to pay for it was a disgrace.

And they remembered it alright! We are doing a family Sweet 16 in August & when they heard it was going to be a cruise they wanted to know if we are going on the ship with the terrible food! That cruise was two years ago! Fortunately my 16 year old granddaughter chose a much better cruise line for her family cruise.

  14. Kids love the breakfast, so go for them! The smiles on their precious faces are priceless .... however I would eat my own breakfast first before going to the nickelodeon breakfast ... the food is cold and disgusting.

This is so true! Took my grandchildren who at the time were 3 & 6 & 12. My daughters thought it would be great for the kids. However, the food was disgusting & cold. They served cold pancakes with colored things - maybe M & M's in it, donuts, cookies, etc, no juice, & luke warm coffee for the adults.

We paid a fortune for the breakfast & the picture that was supposed to be part of the package. They took our money for the 12 year old but when we went to get the picture we were told she was too old & couldn't have it. We complained & were sent to Guest Relations who said they have nothing to do with the photo studio's policies! What? Are they kidding? Needless to say we never got the photo but we did get a disgusting breakfast. So if you go, eat first & remember the fortune you are paying is not for the food. Its just to meet the characters, get some trinkets & a photo! If your not to old when you get to the photo studio you should get a photo!

Good luck! would NEVER do that again! You can meet the characters throughout the cruise & not have to pay for it.

  15. Does anyone know if Anthem is doing a March 2015 Caribbean itinerary? If so, is it a special cruise and/or are there still booking opportunities?

In 2015 Quantum will be sailing to the Caribbean. If you are interested in cruising on Anthem there will be 2 Caribbean cruises sailing in March 2016. One to the Southern Caribbean & one to the Western Caribbean.

Hope this helps! Both of these itineraries are awesome! :D

  17. Hi, Looking forward to your review of Explorer. We have sailed on her over a dozen times and just love the ship, the crew & the captains. 18. Approximately 25% of the passengers took ill. That means that approximately 75% of the passengers did NOT get ill. Don't get me wrong, I would not want to be one of the 25%, but this stuff happens this time of year no matter where you are. Last Christmas, it went around my immediate family. Out of 8 of us, 5 got sick - an even higher percentage than this outbreak, and believe me I cleaned my little heart out, and we all washed our hands until they were practically raw:).

Provided they are doing all they can (and my experience has been that they are very diligent in these situations), then I think cruise lines really get the short end of the stick with this stuff. It is not their fault passengers bring it onboard. (sometimes a crew member, but as they are a 'captive audience' cruise to cruise I suspect it is more likely to be a passenger). It is not their fault that it is super contagious. And yet they are the ones who get stuck with major financial set-backs. And then there is the vicious press with their constant headlines about the 'cruise ship virus' - as if.

I am absolutely not without sympathy for those impacted on this cruise, but I think the cruise line is doing all they can in all likelihood.

    I couldn't have said it better! :D

  19. To anyone that cares...Just got confirmation from the Captain... Explorer is heading directly home and will be back on the 29th , 2 days early for deep cleaning and are to make arrangements for everyone to get home and will be compensated for there losses.

  20. Keep your aft cabin! We have cruised in JS's & GS's on Explorer and both are awesome cabins. But we finally got a JS aft for our May cruise to the Caribbean. The JS aft is awesome with a very, very large balcony. In fact, friends wanted us to change our cruise to earlier in May to travel with them but I just won't give up my aft cabin.

We got the same JS 1394 for our granddaughters Sweet 16 in August along with 1392, 1390 & 1388. How could one family get so lucky!:D
