Interesting - maybe this is something new, When was your cruise and did you add to your account later and it showed retroactive? I knew you could add the package anytime during the cruise (and you would not be charged for the prior days that you did not have the package) as we have done this several times.
Marina, March 18- April 6 2023
My guess is something must have changed. Now they just charge you for the original upgrade to premium price as if from day one and roll all the previous purchases into the package. We didn’t do the upgrade for my husband he just stuck with the original beverage package and I had the premium package.

On the first day yes, but any day after that it’s not retroactive back to the start of the cruise.
The bar manager who was signing passengers up for the beverage packages told me it was retroactive. I specifically asked even if we are a week or two into the cruise and he said “yes” we could upgrade They would reconfigure your bill at anytime if you changed packages.

I don't think so, unless something has very recently changed.
Yes,
I was on The Marina at the time on the first day, they said we could upgrade anytime and the purchased drinks would be rolled into the upgrade.

Thanks for the great responses!
What's the policy if you find that 5 days into the cruise you would do better by having a drinks package? Can you pay the per day price for the rest of the cruise? Or are you required to buy the package for the entire cruise? Will it wipe out what's already on the bar invoice? Do they even let you buy a package part way into the cruise?
I was told. You can upgrade to premium anytime and they would reconfigure your past bill as per the premium package as of you had always had it from the beginning. I got the premium package and husband did not, so we specifically asked about this.

Wow. . . I had no idea. Thank goodness for cruise critic! I just asked my TA to request diet Dr. Pepper. . . This will be a first for me on a cruise ship! Hurrah!
We asked for that too and Fresca... Husband is a diabetic. Maybe they'll stock some if enough people ask!

I'm curious what are your usual/important pre-cruise requests that you like to have in your cabins upon arrival? Going in March on Marina!
Thanks!

Though if you want to save money, you could order the hamburger, avoid the alcohol package/order, and just drink all the beer, hard liquor and wine you bring aboard at embarkation and at the ports. 😉
Do they let you bring wine, liquor on board in the ports?? Cruises I've been on confiscate it and hold it for you until disembarkation.

Honestly I would check early on when you are onboard about the current upgrade policy etc. on that ship. That was just my experience. I was given conflicting information before hand too.
