Ask over on the Disabled Cruising board.
Thanks! I did not realize that even existed!

I need suggestions please - for wheelchair accessible activities in Nassau, San Juan, Grand Turk, and St. Thomas. My brother who is wheelchair dependent will be cruising with us next month - we've been to all those ports but unfortunately did not pay much attention. Thanks!

Here it is: TAMPA! :D
(sorry, auto pilot kicked in I guess.. :D)
Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay
Standard - 1 Bed $129 + $16 taxes/fees $145
Crowne Plaza Tampa Westshore
Standard - 1 Bed $79 + $10 taxes/fees $89
Tampa Marriott Westshore
Standard - 1 Bed $99 + $12 taxes/fees $111
Howard Johnson Hotel - Tampa Airport/Stadium
1 Queen Bed Room With Breakfast Special $68 + $9 taxes/fees $77
1 King Bed Room With Breakfast Special $75 + $9 taxes/fees $84
Renaissance Tampa International Plaza
Standard - 1 Bed $112 + $14 taxes/fees $126
All Travelpony again. Lower rates, saves the credit for a future stay.
Thank you - we'll check some of those out.

We've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Rocky Point - and it was great - just did not know if there was anything closer or with a view of the port. I know the ship docks right up against the restaurants there, but I never noticed the hotel situation.

Nov 29, 2014 to Nov 30, 2014 - 2 Adults
For a comparison and ease of mind here are some Travelpony rates, my favorite booking site and hard to beat:
Hyatt Regency Pier 66
Pool View - 1 Bed $159 + $18 taxes/fees $177
and up, like..
High Floor Room - 1 Bed $205 + $23 taxes/fees $228 <- free $35 refferal credit of 200 before tax applicable, a total of $193
Embassy Suites Fort Lauderdale - 17th Street
Standard - 1 Bed $192 + $22 taxes/fees $214
I am sure other poster will chime in if I posted a hotel in a deadly neighbourhood.. ;)
My choice would be the Crowne Plaza, has good reviews and location. Or the Hyatt with the 35 off 200 credit. Lowest are the Best Western and Cambria Suites.
Thanks - but I was looking for Tampa - :o

EXCELLENT! I got one right! ;)I just might have to go and book "Pride" while she's here. I really enjoyed that ship when I've sailed her before. THANKS for the info!
"SKY"
Hope you do, Sky! We sailed together on the Legend back in 2009 - and have booked the Pride for November 30.
-
Rates around $130 before tax/fees okay?
Yes, that is about what we were expecting to spend.
-
Not going to be doing any sightseeing before - really just need a clean, comfortable room. Flying in, so near the airport is a good option too.
November 29 - Thanksgiving weekend - if that makes any difference?
Thanks!

Have a great cruise! We're on the opposite - Sunshine repo from NOLA to Port Canaveral.
Have cruised the Dream 3 times and loved it! Love the cove balcony!
-
Favorite: Triumph or Legend
Least Favorite: Fascination - but I'd still sail on her tomorrow if I could!
-
We're on this cruise also, staying in our first inside after various other cabin types. We like 4J's so we got an inside on deck 7, near a 4J we had back in November. Anyways, try that cruiselinerooms dot com site, loads of pictures there of Sunshine cabins.

Thanks! Never heard of that site - will go check it out!
See you in 70 days!

DH and I are on the 11-night repositioning cruise in April. This is our 20th/21st cruise and 18th/19th on Carnival. We have not had an inside cabin since our 2nd cruise in 2000 - and that one was not on Carnival.
We just got back from our 3rd Dream cruise, all 3 with cove balconies - I love my balcony! It is not important to DH to have a balcony - so this was our compromise - to get to go on this cruise, I agreed to an inside. My thought is that I will be spending most of my time on that awesome-looking Serenity Deck.
Does anyone have pics of an inside on the Sunshine? We are in 8131 - but pics of any inside with a king would be appreciated!
-
Depends on the terminal - in NOLA, our friends had to wait for their zone, but in Jacksonville, they were allowed to board with us
-
Printing was 50cents per page last time we printed something at the Internet Café.
-
No cove balconies on the Sunshine - just on the Dream, Breeze, and Magic

I like the looks of the new menu and am looking forward to trying all the new dishes. We always get a 2 top so no worries about "sharing" at our table. The only problem I have is bitter and blanc and Grand Marnier souffle are missing :( Many of the new desserts looked good though. We'll see if they've got it rolled out fleet-wide by August 2014 when we sail.
WHAT?!?!? No Bitter and Blanc?! I was okay with the new menus until I heard that! You can have the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake, but I look forward to my Bitter and Blanc one night!

3 months seems long enough - I booked a massage at my local massage studio, part of a national chain, 4 weeks after my hysterectomy - they require a doctor's note if it is less than 6 weeks after major surgery. So I left disappointed that day too.
But, yes, it's totally for liability reasons.
-
Actually, the Dream's repositioning cruise is April 5/6, for 9 nights.

11 nights to move the Sunshine from NOLA to Port Canaveral!! April 6-17 Can't wait! the only tough part was convincing DH to fly to NOLA to board and fly home from Orlando - since we usually drive.

from the :PROHIBITED ITEMS" on Carnival website:
Imitation or replica weapons (Including., de-commissioned weapons or those not capable of being fired, toy weapons, or any other item made, intended or adapted to be used as a weapon)
emphasis mine
Thank you very much! That is what I needed to know but did not take the time to check - I am a rule-follower, so no swords this trip!
-
They can put in some "ramps", but with my husband a wheel chair user, we have never experienced a tender, where a few steps weren't necessary. And contrary to the above, there have been some ports that were not tender wheel chair accessible.
Ditto! We sometimes travel with my DB who is in a wheelchair, and we have been told a few times that it just was not possible.
One of the most scary things I've ever seen on a cruise was on the Big Red Boat in 2000. The crew of the tender lifted him and wheelchair together to get him from the dock to the tender boat. I was so scared I was going to have to explain to my mother how I took him on a cruise and dropped him into the water.
I don't think a crew would consider doing that now.
-
It's unpredictable. I was just on a Halloween cruise. Carnival has a
rule--no masks. Staff were all talking about it--no masks. Lots of people had masks so it wasn't enforced.
I didn't see any swords. Come to think of it, didn't even see the Pirate with the blade for the stupid MDR pic!
Depends on how strict security decides to be.
The No Mask thing is pretty interesting since we had Mardi Gras night on my last 2 cruises - one was sailing from NOLA during Mardi Gras but the other was in September - we had mask making classes and a parade of people wearing masks on both.
-
These would be plastic and packed in my checked bag - 16 of them -
Hmmm, still thinking......
Thanks for all the info!
-
My next cruise is a group cruise, where I teach continuing education classes on the sea days - getting the class/party favors together - you would not believe how much these adults love getting rubber duckies, etc.
This year it's a pirate theme, since we're going to St. Thomas - in past years (this is our 6th cruise like this), we've done Mexican, Jamaican, Mardi Gras - I'm ordering pirate rubber duckies, eye patches, but I wondered about plastic pirate swords.
These are adults - mostly women - so I don't foresee sword fights in the hallway, but.... just hate to order them if they won't make it onboard.

I'm too busy having my own fun to worry about someone else's!
