  1. We were on MSC Virtuosa yesterday and stayed on the QE2 last night. Today we’ve just joined the MSC Opera believe me, I’m an expert at getting to and fro!!  We tried walking it and it is doable because you can see the ship from the port, but there are serious roadworks between the two and it involves going through them. If you’ve got luggage it’s impossible. There is no public transport linking the two. We got an Uber. Cost 24 AED and was worth every penny. Hope that helps.

  2. Maybe we'll see you on board. If we don't have a fantastic cruise

It looks like it we are joining the Sea Princess in Sydney on the 2nd sept. Haven't done a cruise on her yet but we have done quite a few on it's sister the Dawn (now the Pacific Explorer). With the ports on that itinerary we have been to Brisbane, Alotau and Fremantle previously - the other ports we haven't visited before.

We're very much looking forward to this trip

  3. Thanks for the info it was very helpful. Are we going to be on the same cruise in September? We're going from Brisbane to Fremantle.

I wouldn't bother with formal nights on the Aria as P&O have moved away from a traditional style of cruising to a more laid back style with more emphasis on theme nights whilst Princess is more traditional.

With the formal nights on the Sea Princess and we will be boarding the ship in September I am just packing a pair of business shoes business trousers and shirt as well as a tie with M wearing a dress nice dress for these nights. I honestly don't bother with packing a suit although I have seen some passengers dressed to the nines on formal nights.

  4. Definitely a hotel in Perth. I would opt for the Princess debark tour if it's offered. They usually go to the airport but if you can find a hotel with free airport transfers then that's not a problem. I don't know what the debark tour looks like in Perth but in most cities around the world it provides a fairly thorough look around usually with at least one stop. The next morning if you're in a good inner city hotel, Perth is a very easy city to walk around before you need to get to the airport.

If there's no debark tour then take the Princess transfer to the city. If you can manage your luggage easily catch the ferry or the train which are both a couple of minutes outside the port. The ferry would be my pick as it has a bit of a guided commentary up the Swan to Perth and it's very relaxing after the disembarking and clearing customs.

Once in Perth the Hop On Hop Off bus is excellent and if you jump on as soon as you book into your hotel you'll have a good 24 hours to tour before you need to collect your luggage and make your flight home to Wales. Kings Park has great views of the city and the Swan River and don't miss the Giant Boabs. Perth Mint is also terrific. It has a gold exchange that you can actually get a peek at!

Thank you so much for all the info - it was very useful

  5. Hi we are joining a Costa ship in Mumbai. We thought we could get an e visa but because we are going to the Maldives and Sri Lanka on the cruise and then returning to India we are not sure if we can use it. Any info anyone?

  6. Thanks for all your help. We won't be doing Jerusalem but maybe Tel Aviv on the second day. I think I am the only person who goes on cruises and doesn't take a swimsuit. Maybe I will this time for the Dead Sea - can't sink in that!

  7. Thanks for your reply, we went to Jerusalem and Bethlehem from Haifa some years ago. This time we've got an overnight in Ashdod so want to be a bit more adventurous. We are going to do Massada and the Dead Sea on the first day. We now believe that the Sea of Galilee could be too far as we're leaving port at 6pm.

  8. Since you dock at Labadee now, it's super easy to come and go! Yes...it's a typical beach day. The "excursions", like roller coaster, zip line, etc...all cost extra. But, Labadee is pretty, and it's worth a trip ashore. A bbq lunch is served on on the beach, if you want to partake...that's included.

Thanks for the info, I think we will just have a wander ashore and a walk around - probably manage some food as well!

  9. There are several topics on this page with reviews and pictures of Labadee, and people discussing available excursions and amenities.

The non-beach stuff is zipline and roller coaster, and they are extra charge. Lunch is included, and you can also get loungers and clamshells on the beach for free (the employees bringing those to you will expect a tip). Pretty much everything else costs extra.

I haven't found the photos or other posts but will keep looking. Thanks for the info.

Will probably go ashore to say we've been there and then get back on the ship!

  10. We are on the RCCL cruise to Haiti leaving on 25 September. The last private island we went to was Grand Turk - which we hated! I've only just realised that Haiti is also a private facility. I can't get on to the links from RCCL website to see what is available so my knowledgable cruisers can you answer these questions:

Is there anything to do not beach or water related?

What exactly are the 'enhancements and amenities' that RCCL list

    and, finally

do you have to pay for the privilege of using them

Having just read all of the above I must admit I sound like a real grump - I'm not - honest!!

    Val
