Help!  I would like fixed dining for a family of 5 in a MDR Harmony in Feb, early seating.
Do I need to download the App?  How do I request it?

It’s been a while since I’ve been on RCI..

    Appreciate any help.

    TIA

Call whoever you booked the cruise through and ask for them to change it (if available). So if you booked the cruise through Royal, call them. If you used a TA, call them. If not available, ask to be waitlisted. Last option is to ask as soon as you board the ship.

Look at post #27 - in it you quoted the poster in which he admitted that it was an error, and it was a 1.9MB file.

Haha......didn't even notice that last sentence. I guess I got hung up on being able to help someone understand a little bit of the techie world that I never finished reading/comprehending the whole post.

Still curious what kind of file format Royal uses though. There are some really weird ones out there.

Read your previous quote of that poster.

The post you quoted (#28) is my only quote of that poster. There is nothing of mine earlier. As I correctly stated, a 1.9 GB JPEG file when be obscenely huge so I'm wondering if they used a BMP file format or some other format so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

I don't know a bit from a byte, and I know even less about photography, I was just reporting what it says on my computer screen, but there is a 100% chance I am misinterpreting something.

You are right, this file says MB not GB

A "bit" is a single item that can be a ZERO or a ONE. A byte, in conventional ASCII code consists of 8 bits to make a character (such as "a" which is 01100001 or "A" which is 01000001). That's the difference between a bit and a byte.

I just tell anyone I meet that my free picture is earned, so if they want a free picture, go on more cruises. Honestly, this is earned, and the more people that talk about how to beat the system, the more likely, the earned item will be removed......remember drink packages?

Since we have earned it, as you correctly put it, why can we not use what we have earned as we see fit. If I want to give away my 4 Diamond drinks every day, so be it, I've earned them. If I want to give my free pic away, since I've earned that pic, why not? No one is trying to beat the system. We are simply taking what we have earned and doing what we want with it.

The earliest I can make a reservation in the main dining room (explorer) is 6:45pm.  Is this everyone's experience or have you been able to do earlier?  We usually like to eat and then hit the early main show.  I am not sure what time the shows will be but I am thinking we will not be able to do this.

With MTD can you just show up at 6:00 and get in?  The early assigned dining is too early.  Does anyone know when the main shows times typically are?  We are sailing on the Explorer Nov 2024.

On our last cruise we inadvertently had MTD (we normally select Early and I don't know how we ended up with MTD). I also saw that the earliest I could select under MTD was 1845 which is rather late for us so we requested on board to be changed to Early and it was approved.

Did you think the pizza was better on MSC. Sorry to ask about pizza, but I have read it's good on msc. Carnival so far has the best pizza, but I'd try msc pizza. Carnival makes their own dough, for each individual pizza. Each sauced or not as you wish. I cant get rcl pizza no sauce. Carnival does a awesome white pizza.

Yes, pizza on MSC is definitely better than on Royal. Pizza on almost every cruise line is better than Royal's though, IMO.

On Carnival I get the Quatro Formaggio (4 Cheese) which doesn't have sauce as such (garlic butter instead) and then ask for pepperoni added. It's FANTASTIC!!!

I'm lucky. MSC Meraviglia cruises out of NYC which is actually a little more convenient than NJ for me. I'm cruising on the Oasis in October and the Meraviglia in January. I booked the Oasis last year and got a great price but couldn't find anything reasonable for next year.  MSC came in way lower and I got the drink package and free wifi promotion. I do get the four free drinks a day on RCL but it still wasn't competitive for any future cruises versus MSC pricing. I suspect I'm going to like the Oasis better, the Meraviglia seems more like a direct competitor to the Anthem. But I'm giving MSC a shot (nine day cruise to the Bahamas) and I'll see if I like it. From what I've been reading seems fine for the price.

I sailed the Meraviglia back in January and enjoyed it very much.

$1000 difference for how many. Imo flying adds a level of stress. Eventually msc will go from Galveston,  I think it's already approved, but lacks infrastructure in Galveston.  I'd wait on msc and drive.

I've flown for royal, celebrity, princess, and ncl. I will not fly for msc or carnival  .. it would need to be free. I'm not a italian food fan so maybe this doesnt apply to me. I passed on a almost free carnival cruise to alaska  msc is even lower imo.

Having sailed both, I disagree with the MSC/Carnival comparison. Especially as of late with the lower class of people sailing Carnival. One doesn't always have to fly either. I have a B2B on the Jewel out of Galveston for Mar/Apr 2025 and I'll be driving from Florida (picked this because I've never been to Galveston before). It's about a 14 hour drive so 2 easy days of driving. It's also much easier to see the country from ground level instead of 35,000 ft.

  10. I have sailed several Oasis class ships and on the MSC Seashore (sister to the Seaside). IMO, an Oasis class ship will win hands down any time BUT, for a good price I enjoy sailing MSC. The food is a little more European (that seems to matter to some folks, I enjoy it as I lived in Europe for 13 years) but the service all around (MDR, buffet, bars, etc....) was top notch. I had wifi on the Meraviglia and had no problems at all. For a good price, if I were you I'd give MSC a shot so as to see how it compares to what your likes and dislikes are. IMO, it is not as good as an Oasis class ship but plenty good enough for the money spent.

Does it matter how you take on your allowed bottle of wine on embarkation day? Carry on bag or packed in your case? How would they know if you had a bottle in a carry on bag and also one in a suitcase? On a recent P&O cruise I packed my wine in my suitcase and then bought more to carry on in a bag as we got to the port. I expected one or the other of it to be confiscated ntil we disembarked but neither of them were. I don't know how strict the checks are by RCI in comparison.

Hand carried unless you want to go to the naughty room.
