  1. Thank-you,  thank- you for the GREAT advice. I was a bit nervous about self assist, as we will have 2 large, 2 small, and two carry on suitcases. Please don’t judge, we are already in Oahu exploring here before boarding the cruise so I needed leaving Wisconsin, sailing to, arriving in Vancouver clothes, beach and relaxing clothes for Hawaii and dinner clothes for the cruise. I read somewhere that if you don’t have one hand free for the escalator, you can’t do self assist, and we will likely have no free hands. Feeling desperate, I called United, and now have the latest flight I could get that will get me home on the same day. We now leave at 1:35, so an extra hour. We are platinum, so I know we are able to depart earlier than others, and will follow the cab first, train second advice. Whew. Hoping that things go smoothly on the 29th, and again, thanks!

  2. United changed our 3:30 flight out of Vancouver to 12:20. I am stressing over getting quick, reliable transportation to the airport. I have cruised frequently, but never ported in Vancouver. We arrive on a Monday morning, 4/29. I received a quote for a private car for approx. $150.00. Some questions I have are, for those of you who have experience debarking in Vancouver, and going through customs, how long did it take? What time should I have a car pick us up at the port to make it to the airport, hopefully not feeling rushed. We are US citizens. I am semi freaking out, and completely annoyed at United, who tell me we can’t get home until the next day unless we take this three hour earlier flight. Thanks in advance for any advice!

  3. We did book a group of 8 at Breezes a year ago this month, for this June. Today, they emailed us that the resort is booked, so they cancelled our reservation, which we had each deposited on. Not happy. We are now needing to find something else.

  4. I had a similar experience on the Inspiration about ten years ago. Had a wonderfully relaxing facial, and then came the hard sell. Spent 10-15 minutes beginning with a polite no thank you,(from me) and ending with a terse flinging of the sales receipt.(from spa employee) Ruined the experience for me. I have never again used the spa on a cruise, but I do make an appt. for spa services of some kind the day before I leave town. Cheaper, and feels like my vacation starts a day sooner.

  5. We have stayed in 6448 on the Splendor, in a "bowling alley balcony". These are the side balconies on port/starboard next to the aft wraps. According to the deck plan, the same balcony on the Veranda deck looks to be much longer than the upper deck. My PVP tells me the size is the same, according to the description she has from Carnival. Has anyone stayed in one of these balconies that could tell me if the Veranda cabin has a larger balcony than the others? TIA.

  6. As a mom with three kids who has had a cabin for 5 in the past, just say no. It was extremely cramped. IMHO, I would put the 2 brothers in a cabin and have the 14 year old in the cabin with parents. Even having the two bathrooms would be a big plus.

  7. We were on the Splendor last spring break and we loved the ship. Yes, the atrium was a pink color, but not hot pink. Kind of a brown tinted pink. We loved the art work in the halls, the dining room was lovely. Thought the ever changing food selection was fabulous. Easy to find your way around, friendly staff. The only time it felt crowded was the line for the comedy shows intermingled with formal night photographers. I would sail the Splendor again in a heartbeat.

  8. We have booked this cabin for a spring break cruise! We were in the same large balcony, end cabin above the lounge on the Splendor last spring break. It was my favorite cabin ever! The cabin felt larger to me because it was wider. There would be room for a sofa, but it would block the view of one of the two picture windows. Yes, the bed faces the water. We slept with the drapes open when we wouldn't wake up in port. I also liked the extra space behind the door and the fact that the bathroom is not the first thing you see when you walk in. We had a lounger and two chairs on the balcony. We never heard the lounge, but did attend most of the comedy shows. The cabin was very quiet because it was at the very end of the hall, and no one really came back there unless they had a cabin back there.

  9. Mousey, you are right that I do NOT plan to get Botox on the ship. Or at home. I am curious, though as to what the Botox party IS. Thought perhaps someone would have attended. For all I know, Botox stands for Broads riding On The OX party. Sorry if I got everybody worked up. Again, is there anybody who actually HAS attended and could tell me what this event is?

  10. We, too, have a group booked above the Encore Lounge on the Dream. While I have not yet sailed on the Dream, in March we had the same cabin on Splendor. It was the quietest cabin I have ever had. We did go to many of the comedy shows in the lounge, so we were not in bed until after midnight. What usually disturbs me are the knuckleheads running and chatting in the hall. Because we were aft, hardly anyone ever went by our cabin. Slept until 9 or 10 every morning and it was bliss. :o

  11. Broke my ankle 5 days before my Victory cruise last August. Did not need surgery, did not get a wheelchair. Cast, different shoes and some hobbling. Took it easy, but had an aft balcony and was able to elevate. Without surgery, you should be ok 4 weeks out. No way was I going to let my ankle keep me off the cruise, and yes, I did have insurance. I did take excursions which required very little walking, though.

  12. I have booked on my own, used a TA, and for my last 12 cruises, used a PVP. She gives us her Carnival and cell#, and always calls us if we have a good deal coming our way. For example, last fall she called us 3 weeks before we got the postcard informing us of our free (50$ with 50$ credit) cruise. By then she had already booked us on an extended balcony for spring break. Just this morning, I called her because I noticed my son has a casino rate for our March cruise. After she confirmed it, she says "Can I call you back tonight to take care of it? I'm technically on vacation all week". She provides fantastic service I can't do myself and didn't get with a TA. Although I know there are some fantastic TA's and lousy PVP's out there.
