May 09 This is the boardwalk and Great Bay Beach and you just pick a spot anywhere on the strip. Each color umbrella/chair is a seperate business so they all have a special deal like 2 chairs, 1 umbrella, a bucket of beer for 15.00, or 2 chairs, 1 umbrella 10.00. They set them up for you where you want to be. It's a just a great location to be if you want to be close to everything and you can rent a variety of water toys like jet skiies, mats, etc. and there is beach service for food and drink also. There is a Burger King right by the ferry and a Subway a couple blocks down and 1 block back from boardwalk. There are some casinos too on the boardwalk but I've never been in those. They always have live music set up there also on the boardwalk too. It's just a nice easy location close to everything. Don't forget sunscreen, there is HOT sun in St. Maarten! lol :D

This is Great Bay Beach in Phillipsburg. Most of the pictures appear to have been taken right near the ferry stop.
I wanna go back.......
Me too!:D

What beach is this - the one you reach by water ferry?
Great Bay Beach and yes, you just take the ferry right to it:) Umbrellas and chairs for rent, a variety of resturants/bars right next to it on the boardwalk and all the shops are right behind the boardwalk.

This is a good beach across from the ships if someone likes shade as there are palm trees and the boardwalk is right next to you for food and all the shops right behind that. It's a 5 minute ferry ride from the ships. I've been to St. Maarten many times but on this particular cruise in Dec. we arrived late after a wicked storm delayed us and the sunset was gorgeous:)

12/02/07 12 night southern cruise on the Explorer:)

I just ask RCCL for an email comfirmation showing all discounts and OBC's before final pmt. and they send it to me:)
-
After going back and forth w/ the RCCL resolution dept about our fuel surcharge refund that they said we were getting $70 OBC and then they tried to credit it back to a credit card w/ a bank I'm no longer with I finally convinced the resolution rep to add my OBC and send me an email confirming it. She sent me a new invoice and its listed like this:
OBC0-$25 ONBRDCR
OBC1-$50 ONBRDCR
She said she would just give us $75 for the trouble they had caused us. I'm and easy going kinda guy and I just wanted what was due back to me so I appreciated the extra $5, hey thats an extra beer on a sea day.
We paid the fuel charge in Feb for our 4/25/08 cruise and the cruise was booked at least a year in advance. We received a letter in our cabin stating we were getting the fuel charge back in OBC and it was applied to our Seapass account:)

My $200 Platinum Balcony Discount was applied to my April sailing several months ago. So, when I paid my final payment the other day it looks as if the discount was changed to $100. (9 night):(
All my booked cruises still have my 300.00 Diamond discount as I had C & A check all of them the other day and according to them I will still receive it as they were booked before the change. I would call them and tell them you booked before the change. I just transferred my April 25 one and it shows the 300.00.

Just an update for those that might not be aware of the OBC changes in reference to # of sailing days.
As of December 17, 2007 the OBC for booking on board is now
3-5 nights $ 50
6-9 nights $100
10+nights $200
As far as Platinum, Diamond & Diamond Plus Balcony Discounts, as of December 15, 2007 they are now
3-5 nights $ 50 (D/D+)................$ 50 for Platinum Members
6-9 nights $200(D/D+)................$100 for Platinum Members
10+ nights $300 (D/D+)...............$200 for Platinum Members
These are the correct amounts as of Dec. 2007
They changed the rules in Dec. without any warning. I have several Next Cruises that I bought in June and Oct. 2007 and I now will only receive 100.00 for 9 night cruises instead of 200.00 because I have not booked them yet. But on the two I did book prior to Dec. I am still receiving 200.00 OBC on my 9 night cruises. C & A told me if the Next Cruises were already booked I'd receive the 200.00 but for all the others I will get only 100.00 and I am waiting for the rest of 2009 dates to be released. Friends of mine purchased them on the 12/2/07 cruise and were told they would get 200.00 OBC for 9 nights only to find out when they returned home and booked cruises they would now only get 100.00 for a 9 night. I won't buy any more of them as they can change amounts at any time once again. For the LA and the staff to continue to say people would get 200.00 for a 9 night and to have it changed a few days later was just wrong. :o The amounts posted above are the same for booking onboard also and they reduced a 9 night to 100.00 OBC there as well according to C & A.

Wow these boards are whiting out constantly this past hour. Sorry for the double post.
The board was a little wacky for a couple of days but seems fine now:)

Here's the otherside of the model:)

No, I don't mind. I wish that I knew how to copy and paste pictures directly into my post, instead of through thumbnails.
Donald.
This is actually one of my own photo's I took in St. Thomas a couple of weeks ago and I just copied and pasted directly to post. If I had used the insert feature on CC post it would have been a thumbnail. :)

Just right click on any picture and click on copy, than go to your post and right click again and click on paste. It should appear. I never use the insert feature on CC. I just copy and paste right on the post and that's how I get big pictures!! :)

My first cruise was also on Song of Norway but by then her sky lounge had been removed from the funnel and she had been renamed as Airtours Sundream. That was in 1996 from Southampton ,in England, to the Canary Islands . I sailed on her a further 3 times. Wonder where she is now?
Just go back a couple of pages and you'll find the photo history of her I posted and she is still sailing! :)

Hello sea-cruise, do you still have the Song of Norway model and if so I do not know how to do the E-Bay thing :( You can always find me on the Explorer of the Seas April 25 2008 thread:D Thanks
Carol:)
Hi Carol! I "borrowed" this off Seacruises link she posted for Ebay so you could see it! LOL!

I found these on another website advertising different cabins for Song of Norway and her sister ships.

BUNKERVA,
Well, I have other Royal Caribbean models stowed away in the attic but I'll have to get up there and see what I have.
I do have a Titanic pillbox & two Regency Lines ships on ebay right now, but they are of an old vintage line that went out of business.
I think I had read in Cruise Travel Magazine that the Regent Sea and Regent Sun both sunk on their way to the "breakers" when they were scrapped.
I'll check later to see if I have any other RC ships though.
You have a Titanic pillbox? :)

So who has had a disaster experience while on a cruise?

A friend of mine was on a Carnival ship out of NYC on 9/11. They were in Halifax that morning and she said people were running down the street yelling that NY was attacked. They ducked into a store where people had gathered around a TV to see what was going on and then everyone headed back to the ship. She said the people in Halifax were wonderful that day and were helping others find cabs, buses whatever they needed to get back to the ship. They were leaving port and then there had been a bomb threat so had to wait until the ship was inspected before they sailed. They could not return to NY and were kept out at sea a few days and she said Carnival was absolutely wonderful. They let everyone make calls for free, free internet, free alcohol, they did everything they could to help people reach family members to be sure they were ok, etc. Finally they were allowed to dock in Boston where buses were waiting to drive them back to NYC and other areas as the ship could still not return to NYC.
Halifax played a key role that day in that many airplanes had to land there as ATC had to get all the planes down asap. People were met at the airports that day by locals who took them into their homes, helped them find places to stay, gave them phones, food, money whatever they needed for a few days until they were able to fly out again or find other transportation to get home. It wasn't widely reported as there were so many things going on at that time but Halifax did a really good job that day.
