My one and only cruise was on the SS Uganda in 1983.
The cruise started with the most terrifying helicopter ride of my life curtesy of the USAF from the base on Ascension Island to the ship with our bags underslung in a cargo net, which I'm sure the pilot was actively trying to dip in the sea on route!
I was assigned a bunk in the bowels of the ship, D deck forward, and my cot was a hammock affair that folded out from the cabin wall on chains and was way too short for my 6' 2" frame.
Spent the next 10 days trying to dodge the ships Warrant Officer who hated us RAF types because we refused to get up at 06:00 to do PT!
Funnily enough I've not really had the urge to cruise since.
