I'm sorry. I seem to be misunderstanding you. Please elaborate as to why you cannot walk to El Morro. There are multiple ways to walk to El Morro from various parts of the city. I'm actually born, raised and living in Puerto Rico and have more than a few personal stories about my time in and around El Morro. So, unless I'm missing something, I don't quite seem to get why it is you cannot walk to El Morro.

I am done talking about this ...have a nice day and please don't bring anything to my attention...I apparently don't know anything 😉

I have only been to OSJ a couple of times...and somehow found the walk to El Morro quite nice, although one time it was drizzling and wet.  Still, it is a nice walk....or hike, if you like.

its not a hike that most are able to do 😉 .

We have been to San Juan a few times but never been to either fort. Which one is the best to visit if we have to pick only one of them?  We plan to walk and don’t mind the distance. How long would it take to visit both forts - walking?  We are only docked from 7-3. Thank you.

you can walk to Ft San Cristobal but you can't walk to El Morro 😉 ..

  4. It is possible. That's what I did this past December. Took the train from FLL to MIA then the hotel shuttle from MIA to the hotel. Cruise shuttle in the morning to the port.

It took a little bit of time but was super cheap. I think the ticket was about $4?

I need to catch the "train" from MIA to FLL. Where do I find/pick up the train ?

  5. Plumber's wife--

I found it. Go to travelocity.com and to cruises. Then to RCCL, then to Mariner of the Seas. Go to deck plans. If you point your mouse to the room, it will show a picture!!!!!!!!!! There you go, just as I said, you will have your head up against the ocean and your feet towards the door and hallway!

the picture is not an "actual" picture of your cabin. It's only representative of what the cabin might look like .

  6. We have cruised a couple of times with NCL and found there to be a wide range of ages aboard but can anyone confirm if this is the case for all the other cruise companies.

I have this opinion stuck in my mind that all the other companies except NCL/RC/Carnival are for the more mature and that everything onboard is going to be very prim and proper and full of nans and granddads if you get my drift.

We are late 20s/early 30s and enjoy the nicer things in life, we are are not interested in clubbing and drinking. thanks

Sounds like Hollland America would be more for you, a lot less kids and a little more quiet :)

  7. Hi we are going on our first cruise in March to celebrate our 50th anniversary. This will be on celebrity constellation to Vietnam Thailand and Malaysia. What injections etc do we need to have for these countries. Struggling finding out because we now live in Spain and not in tourist area. Any advice would be much appreciated.😇

ask your travel agent, start there

  8. Beware of what may happen after you are booked and paid:

Yesterday, 3 days prior to our scheduled departure on an Alaskan cruise, we were informed that one of the three port stops in Alaska would be eliminated. In addition, the ship is returning to the home port of Seattle a day early, and the passengers will spend the last 24 hours of the "Alaskan cruise" docked in the Seattle harbor. This is to accommodate maintenance needs of the Norwegian Jewel. Expressions of concern to Norwegian that eliminating an Alaskan port on an Alaskan cruise, and replacing it with 24 hours in the Seattle harbor was unacceptable and not a remotely equivalent exchange were met with callous indifference, "we have the right to do this", and no effort in remediation. Additionally, this raises the concern that the several hundred passengers embarking on a ship in such dire need of maintenance that it must return to port a day early may not be in a safe situation.

As with many travelers, this is a long-anticipated adventure which is not likely to be repeated, and missing out on a significant portion of the opportunity to explore Alaska is truly disappointing. The lack of a considerate or compassionate response from Norwegian has been even more disheartening. Carefully consider a cruise line's record before booking.

There is nothing wrong with NCL and what they decided to do. Maybe cruising isn't for you . NCL is the best !!

  9. I've been on 2 cruises with the wife only (alone time) and my thoughts leaving were it was okay, but I want more time in port less time on the boat. I'm a workout guy, so endless food, casino, drinking, overcrowded pools, wasn't my thing. I prefer nicer food, serenity, historic sites, unique experiences.

Once at port though the beach, relaxing, a margarita, a 4hr excursion was awesome. Then back on the boat I always felt UGH.

This was years ago 2004 and 2009 and both times on Carnival. The second piece is cost. Cruises are supposed to be cheap....but I don't see it that way anymore maybe I'm doing it wrong. Last minute deals? Yes!! Just 2 people or kids? Yes!!, but when bringing 6 people total and all are older 14, 15, 17, 19, and 41, 42 I haven't found any "cheap" prices.

We went to Ireland this past summer 16 days total tally every penny spent was a hair over 20k. It was awesome. We did Italy the year before 15 days for right under 19k.

I'm looking at cruises out of Galveston, 7 day cruise, specifically the week of March 10-19th it has to be during that time. The quotes I am seeing for 2 adjoining balcony rooms, plus drink package, tax, etc is no less than $1750 a person and only 3 ports will be seen the rest of the time you are at sea.

I figure a easy 12k for the 6 of us for 7 days just doesn't seem very awesome.

I feel like for that price I could fly to many places, spend a week, have freedom, relaxation, see sites, etc for the same price or less.

I guess my post is twofold for the cruise fanatics what is it you love versus flying to a destination? Is it just knowing you don't have to do anything, just on the boat chilling, catered to, no worries?

Secondly are my prices off or is 12k in 3/10/17, 6 people out of Galveston, sound about right?

NCL has been running what seems to be months on end that 3rd and 4th persons go free. They have 5 specials of which you get 2 to choose what works for you . I think you should check out Norweigan Cruise Line !!

  10. Hi,

I'm new to cruising and have been told not to pre pay gratuities? If I don't prepay what is the usual way of tipping, would this be following each meal served or just at the end of the cruise via envelopes ect? Sorry I just don't know what is best? Also with regards to the tours my children are 15,16 and 7 would it be better to book a taxi from the port and have free time in each area? We are cruising into Naples, Rome, Florence, Cannes and marseille?

Thanks so much any advice would be apprecited

    Lisa Moore

Tips used to be given out in envelopes on the last night of the cruise. But they are now added to you "bill" . It like this across most cruiselines .

  11. We always fly in the day of. Been doing it for the last 29 cruises. We aren't paranoid enough to fly the day before. Beside its only PHL to MIA or PHL to FLL or PHL to TPA. I don't consider us lucky just do what we always do and don't put anything "negative" into the process ;

  12. I am a first time cruiser looking at the liberty ship out of Galveston. I read on the site where you use either a debit or credit card or cash for a "deposit" assuming u plan to charge stuff. My question is since they put a hold on the debit card which is what I will have to use....we have 2 adults and 2 kids....do they put the hold on it per person, per room, per adult or how does this work? I am trying to budget for everything so just trying to prepare. We plan on paying for cash whenever possible but read on the ship we would have to use either kind of card.

    Thank you for any input:)

Debit cards are dangerous for travel. There is no protection behind it like a credit card. Credit cards are the only way to go !! Been traveling this way for 30 years and won't do it any other way .

  13. First of all, thanks very much for all the replies concerning inside cabins vs. balconies. With that being said, we still haven't made up our minds. There's just so much to digest.

Can someone enlighten us as to this guaranteed cabin selection? I assume you get whatever cabins are left over. Is that a bad thing? If so, why does the rate seem to be a bit higher? Is there a chance that if all the inside cabins are gone, you get an upgrade to an ocean view? Does going on the last or second to last cruise of the season matter one way or the other? If anyone has ever done the guaranteed cabin, would you do it again?

    Thanks in advance!

Did it once, would not do it again. You have no idea where on the ship that you will be located. It's not worth trying to save money over.

  14. I did a lot of research and surprised I hadn't booked a cruise yet but is was mostly because I wasn't sure about going alone. Then I convinced someone to go with me but she mentioned going alone or cruises in general can be dangerous...I was a little shocked. I did so much research how could I have missed that! So are cruises dangerous? Some destinations? Some cruise lines? Or are we being paranoid?

Paranoid would be my guess . Cars are dangerous, do you drive one? Cruises are safe :)
