  1. Thanks for the response and input. I know it seems silly that this is important to us but it is. She is contacting them herself today , someone else in her office contacted them previously. So I guess I will see what she can find out. I've never done MY TIME, but I'm sure it is chaotic. I like the routine , eating early and the same table and wait staff each evening, and we eat in the MDR just about every night.

How did you find out that DD was done away with? TA? Email? or like me on CC?

    Thanks

    Steph

  2. Can anyone tell me if they were notified that dynamic dining had changed and now they were back to traditional or my time? We always choose Traditional Early seating , it's just our preference. We like same wait staff same table each evening. They have given us My TIME. And now 222 days out say that Traditional both times is closed without waitlist.

Anyways, my TA said she wasn't notified and I told her I was going to call RCCL to complain no one was notified. My question is if anyone was notified when this happened either yourself or TA? I'm about to call my TAs bluff, I think she was notified and dropped the ball!

    :(

    Thanks,

    Steph

  3. Thursday, April 14, 2016 - Belize

I have an 8:15am shore excursion today. Since the Chops’ breakfast does not begin until 8:00am, I don’t have time for a Chops breakfast today. So I settle for a banana, which is fine since I don’t normally eat breakfast. I’m in group eight, on the Wildlife Adventure tour. We are the seventh group call to the tender boats. One thing I noticed, there are only lifeboats on this ship, no tender boats. Thus all tendering is being done by local commercial tenders. One good thing about this is that the commercial tenders are open and airy, not closed and stuffy like the ship’s tenders (if it had any). Still it is 9:30am before we get to Belize, as it is a long tender ride.

There it is a fairly long wait until we board the bus. It is an old bus, but the air conditioner works. It is a long ride to the zoo. It is a nice zoo, but not world class. There are three problems however. The zoo uses fences and electric wires to keep the animals in. That means most of the viewing is done through wires. Inside the cages is all natural vegetation, so the animals are hard to find and see. Which brings up problem three. Though this is a fairly small group of nineteen people, once an animal is located, there at least nineteen people that all want to see it at the same time from the same place.

From the zoo we go to the river to have lunch (no, we don’t eat the river). Lunch was okay as far as tour lunches go. We had chicken, rice, beans, a small salad, and a drink. Then it is a boat ride down the river to a small town where we board the bus back to the tender dock. Along the river we see various wildlife, such as monkeys, birds, alligators, and landing 737s. Yes, the local airport landing path goes right over the river.

We are back at the tender dock just after 3:30pm and the last tender to the ship is 4:30pm. Fortunately all of us are aware that the ship is one hour ahead of local time, since the tour guide thinks we have a two hour window, not a one hour window. A major drawback to Belize is that one loses two hours round trip because of the tendering. Also note, when approaching (and leaving Belize, the captain is not lost. The channel the ships have to follow was laid out by a drunken snake. I was trying to figure out what the captain was trying to do, as the ship made one turn after another until I realized the ship behind us was doing the same thing. I figured both captains could not be that crazy (or drunk). I later spoke to the captain and confirmed that the channel through the reef was not straight.

Tonight is our second formal night. After a tender port? I think after Cozumel would have been a better choice, but nobody consulted me on this issue. I have a few pictures taken, two of which I like and buy. The captain cannot come to the formal night because he is busy trying to figure out how to leave Belize without making the evening news (got to stay in that channel when leaving Belize also).

I’m the only one at dinner tonight, which is good because I’m dead tired and the faster I finish dinner the faster I can go to sleep. I’m done in less than one hour. Belize has two seasons (the same two Panama has), hot and hotter, and they are both humid. All I want to do is sleep. I’ll be back at you in the morning.

I'm I reading that correctly? 1 hour tender each way??? Can you even see land when you get on the tender?

  4. We found that it was just as cheap to rent a car at the Hobby airport; drive to Galveston and spend the night at our hotel; drive to the port and park the car there for the week; drive back to Hobby at the end of the cruise. Even with the week long parking fee, it was the same price as a car service, and we had all the control.

    Booked through Hotwire.

    Enjoy!

    Kel:)

This is what we are doing as well in July. Where did you park may I ask? We are going on Liberty of the Seas RCCL Terminal 2 I believe.

    Thanks!

    Steph

  5. Can anyone help me out? We are renting a car at Hobby driving to the cruise port and keeping it all week so we have it when we disembark the next Sunday. It was actually cheaper to do this since I have a discount on the car rental.

Where is the best place to park? I was looking at Galveston Park N Cruise , they say you can walk across the street to the Terminal 2 (RCCL terminal). Can you really?

If not where is the best place to park?

    Thanks,

    Steph

  6. We were on the Allure in 2012 and had a fire in one of the engine rooms. We were a tad nervous but never did I ever think about compensation. They turned the ship around to get the smoke (which was contained to the engine room and pool deck) vented out. For a few moments. We had just finished dinner when it happened.

The shows went on, (I did verify my muster station ;) ) We had a lovely evening and next day at sea!!

I was just happy it was handled and we could enjoy the rest of our cruise. :D

  7. We too have stayed at Da House. I loved it, but the folks are older and no elevator isn't going to cut it this time. If you're young and don't mind a few stairs this place was beautiful imo. Check out the rooms and "stay away from the party" or in "quiet room" and you shouldn't have any issues.

  8. We stayed at the Embassy Suites pre cruise, it was expensive but the location was great, short ride from airport and to cruise terminal. We walked to the beach and around the local area. There is a happy hour with free drinks and a great breakfast. Everyone at the hotel was helpful

What was the cost of the taxi cost to the port?

Seriously considering this hotel as a one night pre cruise stay.

    Thanks

  9. We need some suggestions for a Good Beach Day in Antigua. Would like somewhere we can get lunch , chairs, umbrellas, and restroom facilities.

Best way to get there as well. There will be 9 of us ranging from 40 to 75.

    Thanks,

    ~Steph
