  1. As an "Old Salty Lady", we don't have pockets usually... I always use a lanyard and all of mine are "bedazzled". It is really more convenient and I am less likely to misplace it. !

Funny how people have a different take on this Lanyard Thing. on my first cruise or two I had no idea about Lanyards then I learned how practical they are and from then on I will not be caught without at least one on a cruise.

Many women's Skirts may have pockets but they are not tight fitting so items tend to fall out. not to smart to keep important things in that.

so I vote that Lanyards are a smart must have for veteran Cruisers not a newbie thing at all........

  2. Do ginger biscuits work or is it other forms of ginger?

I swear by GINGER. i take it in capsule form. Start a few hours before i sail and take it once or twice a day during cruise. I have strong reactions to Bonine (Even the Non drowsy stuff knocks me out)

As far as sea bands - Science backs up their effectivness.

there is a newer type of band that actually emits a small electric pulse called RELIEFBAND. Used by Astronauts to relieve the effects of Zero grafity and by Cancer patients and Pregnant Women for Nausea. Very Expensive, but Very Effective - i used it once on a 5 hour Whale watching trip and it worked great. (But this is really for those who get Seasick Watching JAWS- like me)

  3. The watch is my issue - ...

For what it's worth - I also do not wear rings, bracelets or earrings. They irritate me. Wearing a watch would NOT be a greater inconvenience than missing the ship - even as a newbie I'm not THAT stupid. Just clarifying whether the ship time vs port time could be different.

I hear you - i don't wear much jewelry either, like you say, it bugs me.

I hook a cheap watch to my Purse (or Backpack) strap when I travel to keep track of time.

There was only one time In Greece i think, that the ship time and the port time were different that i can remember.

the Alaska Cruise i went on 12 years ago had no time issues.

Even shops Clerks seemed to know what time each ship left. (whle shopping a salesclerk told another couple that they better hurry since their ship was leaving soon)

in Greece, when a salesman got pushy, i said we need to hurry back to the ship and he said -" oh you got time your boarding time isn't for 30 minutes yet. "

so if all else fails - ask in a Popular shop. LOL!:)

  4. Would it help if the op told the cruise line she's pregnant.

    j/k

LOL - That is Exactly where my thoughts went.

Maybe i'm old fashion, but no last name?!?!! -- also having the Cabin number of the person you spent the whole cruise with seems Logical (or a phone number or an email or a Facebook acct or a city .......)

Go through a private Detective - NOT the cruise line who would be stupid to open themselves to a lawsuit and way to busy to look up a passenger and Forward a letter to to them.

But Hey, an open - unsealed letter would sure make for a juicy read and a lot of entertainment for the whole office----( oh you know everybody would read it!!!!)

  5. Wait, just did some calculus. I wrote an equation using the standard deviation of the scheduled departure time, the mean average of wet precipitation days, and the statistical average of NCL on time departures. This produced a graph from which I was able to use a tangent line (from the calculated real departure of a 4PM sailing) to derive a calculated boarding time of 4:30PM…for a 9PM sail.

Does anybody know if I have it right?

    Say what!!????!!!

Can't do that high match while on vacation.

I too am leaving out of Whittier at 9pm (june 30)

First time for this late of a departure but, heck, it's Vacation.

    Go with the flow.

Since I am on a PreCruise Land tour i assume we will get on the ship with the tour group. No need to think about it - I can just be a sheep and follow the Pack--- Whoo hoo!!

  6. Thank you very much for your very timely and honest review. I'm taking the Sun to Alaska in 17 days and I will be on this ship for 14 days so your latest info is very helpful as I know what to expect now.

I sailed RCCL the most but I choose NCL for the 2nd time due to the IT.

You're doing Alaska for 14 days? (must be doing a back to back Cruises)

I will be sailing the Whittier, Alaska to Vancouver BC Leg starting June 30.

Have you gone to the June 30 sun roll call Thread?

We also usually cruise other Lines but this Itenary for Alaska worked well for us so we are returning back to NCL after 6 years.

  7. The whole practice seems like In n Out's "secret" menu. Or last minute cheap upgrades to first class when the plane still has room. Available to anyone, as long as they know to ask.

    Pretty harmless.

Unless you get the Animal Fries.

I like that Example - Cadien -- the Secret Menu -- like a bonus for those who take the effort to seek it out.

But like the Animal Style Fries- be careful what you ask for.

  8.

If after reading this thread you still have to ask these questions, there is no point answering as there is no way you will be able to comprehend the answer.

That's right - if i don't agree with you i must be ignorant.

What, no comment about letting the Company make and Follow their own Policy?

I must have missed the part where you presented yourself as CEO and chief policy maker for all the cruiselines.

Silly me --- Of course your rules and expectations of human behavior overrule the Companies past and current pratices.

  9.

Love the word games people use to soothe one's conscience. Since you knew before you picked up the phone that you did not want an upsell (which actually would be okay), just what were you calling to "inquire" about......the weather??

No word games- no excuses, no guilt - -- Why not ASK for a better deal, I don't understand the problem. Some people feel confortable asking-- some don't. Why is anybody wrong?

buy a Blender and see that the next day the store puts it on sell. My sister goes to the store and asks for the difference. I don't. neither is worng - just different ----

Buy a cruise and notice the price has gone down? Ask-- Don't Ask--What's the big deal?

Regardless if you think people are or are not "ENTITLED" ---Newsbreak - You are not the "ENTITLED" police. Leave it up to the Company to establish and Follow their own policy and stop speaking for them.

on another note----You say "Squeeky Wheel" like it's a bad thing??? What's wrong with asking for a little bit of oil?

  10. The three times it happened I was on a ship's shore excursion.

In Portland, Maine, ......more than two hours after the ship was supposed to sail.

In Bar Harbor, Maine, I booked a ship's shore excursion. ........ We finally got back onto the ship a couple of hours after it was supposed to leave.

In St. Kitts, I booked the ship's excursion ....... So when we got back, I didn't have to hurry-hurry-hurry back to the ship.

Wow! three times-- I only had one TRUE Pier Runner Experience -

In Boston, my sister and i decided to go on our own to Salem. We took the Train - 35 minute Ride. We Needed to be back on ship by 7:30 Pm-

We decided to catch the 5:30 train from Salem to Boston. With an under 10 minute Cab ride to the pier we would have plenty of time, right?? so you would think.

After spending a nice day in Salem, we get to Salem train station at 5:13 plenty of time (maybe even catch the 5:15. )

Come 5:20 and no train--- 5:40 no train- 6Pm no train--- what is going on? we find out there is a bridge that won't lower so the trains can't get to Salem. We Panic-- and start calling the Ship- our travel agent - anybody we can think of because we are not on a ship tour and don't think the ship will wait for us. We contemplate a Taxi or renting a car.

Well at 7:15 a train finally arrives - we get into Boston at 7:50 (our travel agent told us they would hold the ship until 8pm) We run for a taxi and told the dirver to Step on it. He put the NYC taxi drivers to shame and got to the ship in less than 5 minutes -(Can't let a few red lights slow him down) - we gave him a BIG tip and Ran up the Gangway) I think i kissed the ship when we were finally aboard.

In the elevator the people looked at us and said "Oh your the girls they kept calling over the Loundspeaker for the last 1/2 hour" -- Great now we infamous.

The whole time i kept thinking of the "I love Lucy" episode where they lowered her to the shp from a helicopter. Looking back now it was funny but i don't think the rest of the passengers enjoyed the Delay.

  11. I notice that the most expensive cabins..Penthouses, Garden Villas and Romance are in the very front of the ship. I can't imagine anyone spending that kind of money if they were going to be rocking and reeling all week. I know for sure that Hawaii would not be a good place to be in a far forward cabin, because you do get rough seas, ......

We had a forward Penthouse (I think it was the 2nd door from the front) On our Hawaiian cruise - I loved it and I am extremely sesitive to motion. there was only one night that was a bit rocky but I saw people stagger all over the ship on my way to the room. I took extra ginger capsuls and had no problems.

On our New England cruise this Oct. we will have a back facing cabin. I'm a bit nervouse about it because of the noise factor mentioned. Oh well I don't plan on spending a lot of time in the cabin and at night I'll just use my Earplugs!!

  12. For seasickness, my doctor told me about this remedy. He was a Navy corpman before medical school. He says it is all in your head anyway. TAPE AN ASPIRIN IN YOUR BELLY BUTTON!

Doesn't sound like a very intellegent doctor. The innner ear can be affected by the motion. what happens is your body feels the motion but your eyes don't see it- this confuses your senses and can cause nausea.

I cannot ride those ride simulators or see movies like "Blair Witch" for reverse reason (Your eyes see motion but your body is still- thus causing internal confusion) I have always gotten car sick as child and turn green on small boats. Motion sickness does exist and is a scientific fact- If I were you I would change doctors fast and report this peson to the AMA.

I don't trust doctors that call patients Liars. Just because they don't experience it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. this doctor sounds like a fool to me.

I have always used Dramamine but have heard about ginger-- thanks for the reminder I will get some today.
