  1. We were on Enchantment, in January,'06. We had a D1 balcony in the new section. We thought the ship was beautiful, and the staff and crew very friendly. This was our first RCCL cruise, and it made us confirmed fans. Five days was not long enough. There is more to do than you can possibly fit in. We loved the Solarium, especially. I hope this thread takes off likt the Explorer one, and you will get a ton of info, and pictures as well.

    Judy :)

    Hi Judy

How did you like your D1 balcony cabin??

My Mom and I are booked for the Enchantment in May 2008, and we got a really good deal on our 1st balcony cabin...

    Thanks

    Judy,

How was your D1 balcony room?? Thats what we booked for our May 08 cruise. Our 1st balcony too:)

  3. We were on her in November 2005, just after the stretch. DH, DS, and I were in an Oceanview, Deck 3; DD and her best friend were in an inside across the hall from us. The inside room was slightly smaller - about 140 sq ft. - but lots of places to store things. Best thing we brought for each room was an over-the-door shoe organizer.

Lovely ship. Great staff - we had the best wait staff in the dining room! So great, it's one of the first things we mention when people ask us about cruising. I have several food allergies and I am used to handling these on my own. On the first night I asked if a particular dish had eggs and then selected something else because it did. The waiter asked if I disliked eggs and i told him I was allergic. Shortly after, the headwaiter came to the table and every night I got a sneak peak at the next night's menu, made my choices, and he made sure nothing was cross-contaminated by eggs or fish. Now THAT is great service.

The Good: Lots and lots of beautiful pieces of art throughout the ship. The new pool deck, especially at night.

The So-so: the pizza tasted fair, at best - but who cares, there are so many other dining choices! The shows in the theater were hit and miss.

The Bad: there WAS NONE! This is a wonderful ship and we just booked a cruise for November '08 with a group of 12 friends and family! This time we all have rooms in the new section!

Great tip in you reply; over the door shoe organizer. Never thought of that. I will be buying one tomorrow at Walmart and throw it in my suitcase until next May when we leave on the enchantment:D

  4. Sometimes it can be something besides near death that can make you realize that you are not in control of your life. After raising our son we thought we would be able to have time for travel and concentating on ourselves. We didn't plan on raising my two nephews' date=' ages 6 and 11, but we have had them for 3 years now in July, and I will be 50 this year. I decided that even though money is now tighter as well as schedules, I still needed "me" time and "us" time, so we try to go on a cruise every year. One day I hope to take the boys with us but for now this is our one week of selfishness.[/quote']

You are so right! It can be something outside of Death that makes you think about whats really important!

  5. One of my ex-coworkers called me today at work, and told me that one of our friends/co-worker was given less than 3 months. She was diagnosed with breast cancer about 2 years ago, and was doing pretty good and still working until now. She is in the hospital right now and in good spirits, but the first thing that came to my mind was, I hope she's had a good life, and if she continues to live past her time given, she continues to enjoy her life as much as she can, and you know what, right after I got off the phone with her, I went online and booked a hotel in Hampton Virginia for the Hampton Jazz Fest!! I have always wanted to go to a jazz fest and I missed the one in Reading PA (which is closer to me than Virginia), but guess what, I don't care, we are going! We just put out over $1000 in material to upgrade our bathroom and kitchen. Going on this cruise in a few weeks, and to the Jazz Fest in June will be money well spent!

Anyone of us can get handed the same life-ending sentence she just got.

    I wish her well!!!

    Live your life people!!!!!!

  6. DH had a history of coronary artery disease, has suffered 3 heart attacks and ultimately ended up with a sextuple bypass. Since that time he's enjoyed nothing but good health - thank God and thank the doctors. Since his health problems have been repaired, we've cruised to celebrate various birthdays and anniversaries, the latest being an early celebration of our 30th anniversary in February.

My sister (who has never cruised) has asked me why we cruise, and why we go to the same places more than once (Caribbean x 3, Mexico x 2, and the Mediterranean x 2, with a third coming in 2009). My response is that we want to travel while we can so that when the time comes that we can't travel any more, we will have wonderful memories and photos to look at of the places we've been. I don't want to sit on a porch in a rocking chair with the love of my life beside me, listening to either him or me saying "Gee, I wish we'd have travelled when we were younger / healthier."

    Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

You are so right!!! Thats exactly how I feel. When the time comes and we are unable to do as much or if anything at all, at least we will have precious photos, videos, journals etc., of time well spent. It will be especially pleasing to share of this with my future grandkids and if I am not around to see them, at least my Son will have keepsakes to show them how their grandma lived her life!;)

  7. :D Again, this thread is great!

It got me to thinking about something else. I read where many people have not been on vacations in years, due to finances, family obligations, jobs, etc. Believe me I know the feeling, putting off things to do other things, and it reminded me of an article I read a few years ago, and that I still have. It talked about "Life is what happens while we are doing other things", and it is soooo true! There will always be bills, family obligations, death, illness etc., but someone else here said, "if you we are not celebrating birthdays, the alternative is not very good" Sooo true also!

We are presently having our bathroom upgraded, and just recently had our kitchen redone, on top of that we need our exterior windows redone. Money,Obligations, etc, but guess what??

I will be leaving for a cruise in 17 days with my Mom, and I am planning a long weekend trip to New Orleans with Hubby, sometime in July, and planning to attend the Cape May Jazz Fest this summer, all on a budget. Do you see where I am going with this???:D

  8. Why do you cruise?

We had a wake up call about how precious life and our relationship is.

It was a MIRACLE she survived, thought we plan a group cruise the MIRACLE...

    Next up our CC Group cruise 2/27/08 "It's a Miracle" 8 Days>>

Never really took vacations as our kids were growing up...Now we do what it takes to sail away together instead of taking everything for granted.

    So, why do you cruise?

    MMMike

    MIKE!:)

Thanks for starting this thread!!!!! It really reinforces the importance of not taking life for granted!

  9. Whether its taking a cruise, or flying to a resort, I plan for events year round. I lost a cousin that I grew up with as a child, but lost touch with as an adult. She died suddenly last February and it hurt me so bad. I was feeling so many different things all at once, but I mainly feeling guilty that we did not know each well as adults.

When I went on my last cruise in August 2001, she was suppose to go with me but backed out a few months prior. I so wish I had talked her into going with me. There are many many things I wish we had done together, but did not. We were like two peas in a pod growing up. We went on our first Disney Trip together, and many other trips. I told her older sister that I am happy that I have those memories to cherish, but It also made me realize that memories are forever. No matter what happens in our lives, those family outings, vacations, parties etc are etched in our memories, and no one can take them away. My husband and I travel, and hang out together as much as we can, and I often plan things with my girlfriends and he plans outings with his brothers and friends.

Thats why this upcoming Cruise I will be on in a few weeks is going to be great, because I get to spend some quality time with my Mom, just the two of us cruising the high seas!!!
