  1. My disabled husband and I will be traveling with my sister and staying in handicap-accessible cabin 10170.  The RCCI rep told me that the cabin has a sofa bed.  Has anyone stayed in this cabin and if so, can you confirm if it has an actual double sofa bed or does it have a single-style sofa chair type bed?  Any assistance would be very much appreciated.  Thanks!

  2. Can anyone comment on Oosterdam handicapped-accessible cabin 6108 since the Oosterdam came out of drydock? The cabin is now listed as an SS cabin. In the past I believe it was an SY category. Anyway, I was wondering if the handicapped-accessible bathroom has been reconfigured so that the toilet isn't facing the HA shower. Photos of the newly furbished SS would be very much appreciated.:)

  3. My sister, my disabled husband and I will be sailing out of Cape Liberty on Celebrity's Summit on June 26th. Our plan is to drive from Massachusetts to Cape Liberty and park at the terminal for the 7-day cruise to Bermuda. After doing some research, I just learned that RCI's Anthem of the Seas will be departing Cape Liberty the day before we depart. Therefore, we are a bit concerned about the availability of parking given the passenger size of the Anthem. We plan on arriving at Cape Liberty around 10:00 a.m. Do you think that parking would be available for us in the garage and if not in the garage at the surface lot, especially in light of the Anthem passengers who will use the parking terminal the day before we depart? Is it too big a risk to take parking at the Cape Liberty lot? Or does it make more sense to drive down the day before and stay at a cruise and park hotel in NJ near the cruise terminal. I would appreciate any comments and/or suggestion from CC members familiar with Cape Liberty parking.

  4. Ski--WW, I couldn't agree more. I am just so disappointed about the promenade deck. One of the greatest pleasures of being on a cruise for me is the enjoyment of walking the promenade deck, sitting on one of the lovely teak loungers reading a book, or just appreciating the beauty of the ocean and the ocean breezes. I never would have expected that such a venerable cruise line would eliminate what is a mainstay of a true cruising experience.

  5. Since my husband is disabled, it is easier for me as his caregiver to bring him a light lunch from the buffet to the cabin rather than having to deal with the general chaos of getting lunch for the both of us from the luncheon buffet.

This decision by NCL will definitely impact my decision to sail with them again.

  6. Thanks for the info Meglet. I did contact NCL's Access office and the person I spoke to said that the cabins I indicated have pullmans from the wall, not sofabeds. She said that policy wouldn't allow a rollaway in the cabin. So, I am researching other cabin possibilities. I appreciate your response.

    :)

  7. My husband who is disabled, my sister, and I are interested in a cruise on NCL's Dawn sharing one cabin. I researched the cabin deck plans and noticed that there is pullman bed for the third person for these cabins. A pullman would not work for us, so I was wondering if anyone could comment on the possibility of putting in a rollaway bed in these handicap accessible cabins. According to a travel agent I have been in touch with, this is not the case. Yet, when I checked photos of a similar handicap-accessible cabins on deck 9 (same layout as deck 10) it appears that there wouldn't be an issue putting in a rollaway bed. Any assistance would be very much appreciated.:)

  8. Thanks Splinter for your suggestion. Although a very good suggestion and one that would save me money in the long run, I find renting a chair the easiest course of action. I have issues with my back and about 5 months ago, had back surgery. So lifting a chair in and out of a vehicle went traveling to and from the airport really isn't an option.

Knolmom, thanks for letting me know about your experience in Ft. Lauderdale. I will have someone from the ship wheel my husband onboard and will pick up our wheelchair in our cabin.:)

  9. My disabled husband, sister and I will be sailing on Celebrity Eclipse in November. I will need to rent a wheelchair for my husband's use and plan on using Special Needs At Sea, a company that we have used many times when sailing out of Ft. Lauderdale. Does anyone know if there is a pick-up and drop-off location for wheelchair rental at the cruise terminal, so we can use the chair to get on and off the ship? Or is a rental chair left in the cabin for pick-up? I ask, because in Ft. Lauderdale we are able to pick-up the wheelchair at an outside location before boarding the ship and then use the wheelchair to disembark and then leave it at the drop-off location.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.:)

  10. My husband, sister and I are cruising on the Eclipse in November which embarks and disembarks in Miami. However, we are flying in and out of Ft. Lauderdale airport. Does anyone know if the luggage valet service is available for those flying out of Ft. Lauderdale even though we disembark in Miami? Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.:)
